Ramzy from 11Warriors has spoken!
So like some of you i do check out that's going on over there occasionally. last year Ramzy wrote an amazing piece which ended with me needing a cigarette.
"Losing to Michigan like that is how Ohio State fans go full-cartoon and start talking about replacing a guy winning games at a 90% clip. But that's not just because he lost. It's because we've seen this type of loss so many times before, and we know what happens to coaches who lose to Michigan like this. They keep losing to them."
Here is this years' article for those inclined. Haven't read it yet, expect it to be just as good.

Nope, sorry, not Ramzy. He just wrote this for example:
"Sherrone Moore knew when valuable opportunities arose, like a wobbly true freshman entering the action, and he seized them. He didn't play it safe - he played to win. He went for it on 4th and short three times because that's what players who choose Michigan go there to do - to shine in big moments in the biggest games possible."
You guys really should read it, he's an exceptional writer and this article is terrific.

Appreciate you convincing me - its a great read.

Ramzy is like Stephen King in some ways (the author, not the mgouser). His long form writing is great, but when he gets on Twitter he's an imbecile with good grammar.
November 29th, 2023 at 4:25 PM ^
Agreed. It is an excellent piece PLUS there is no more satisfying drink than Buckeye tears.
November 29th, 2023 at 4:31 PM ^
Buckeye tears = savory
Spartan tears = sweet

In Japanese that's OSUmami and MSUmami.

Upvoted in turn for Ja-pun-ese user name. I know from experience that it's hard to translate that kind of humor to nihongo.

IIRC Ramzy is what people think Gerdeman is. He's a good writer from everything I remember of him

The observation is accurate. I have watched and rooted for Michigan in every year of The Game since 1969. That year was especially memorable for me not because Schembechler's team made Those Who Stay a Michigan mantra through the ages but because it beat Woody in a season in which Ohio State was compared to one of the best pro teams of that day, the Minnesota Vikings.
And mostly because the Buckeyes had a player who had terrorized my high school in New Jersey as the best player it had ever produced.
In 1965, my high school upset Bruce Jankowski's team in our annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Bowl classic at Fair Lawn HS. Jankowski was a high school superstar on both sides of the ball. For Woody and Ohio State, he played flanker on the offense and was good enough to get drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs where he played for Hank Stram and played in one of the first Super Bowls.
Michigan has always performed in The Game with a sense of conviction that belied its talent level which Ohio State always seemed to outmatch. Never mattered then. Doesn't matter now. Michigan under Jim Harbaugh can beat anyone. And when he's gone, it won't matter either. he's trained his people well enough that they know how to win The Game and coach those Who Stay Become Champions.

well said. i appreciate when the 'enemy' is smart, funny, and relatable. i'd honestly rather read well-written straight dope from the other side than semi-fawning drivel from ours.

I had shades of 2005 against OSU in my brain in the stadium on Saturday, where we punted on 4th and 3 only up two points at the end, and instead of trying for the touchdown earlier in the game we kicked the field goal that was somewhere within the 5 yard line. We played not to lose and ended up losing.
We played for the win on Saturday, and we won.
November 29th, 2023 at 6:14 PM ^
Two thousand fucking five.
Up by two scores. Didn't go for it on fourth down, Lloyd had that g*ddamn qb pooch punt.
Only one third down during those two drives for OSU to come back and win.
18 years ago and it still pisses me off to think about it.
November 29th, 2023 at 6:12 PM ^
Unfortunately he also decided to throw in there that Harbaugh got suspended because he was doing whatever he could to maximize any advantage he could.
Referencing "sign stealing" that Harbaugh had nothing to do with shows even he is a bit delusional.
November 29th, 2023 at 6:25 PM ^
It almost read as a compliment. Definitely didn't come off as an excuse like I anticipated.
November 29th, 2023 at 9:17 PM ^
Yeah, I read it as complimentary as well. Like, “why isn’t OSU trying this hard to win the game.”
The irony is that they likely were trying that hard to “win” the game by hiring a PI Firm to dig up dirt on Michigan.

The statement had duality as it served as a jab and a bone.
November 29th, 2023 at 6:18 PM ^
Wow! Very well written article!
November 29th, 2023 at 10:18 PM ^
Ok I read it. I’m unimpressed and wasted a few minutes.
November 29th, 2023 at 5:05 PM ^
Ramzy is one of the few Buckeyes who is well-respected around these parts (another is our own BuckeyeChuck). His articles really are worth a read, and not just for the schadenfreude.

Ryan Day is just so soft. I really didn't focus on it until his post game comments after the Notre Dame game. This is football you pussy! There's no crying in football unless your 5th year team captain offensive lineman has his leg snapped in two on the field. And even then you suck it up, run right at them and score a touchdown.
Best wishes Zac.
November 29th, 2023 at 4:00 PM ^
Right on the Notre Dame game. We played to win at the end. We used 11 defenders.
November 29th, 2023 at 4:26 PM ^
It’s not just that he’s soft but he’s so pathetic that he gets bent out of shape from a pretty benign remark from a has been 90 yr old like Lou Holtz and then his reaction to barely escaping ND because Freeman can’t couch is to boast and puff out his chest to prove how tough they are.
November 29th, 2023 at 4:40 PM ^
That early game 4th and short when he punted told me we’d win the game. Just too soft and scared. If they pick up a first there the game may have been different.
November 29th, 2023 at 4:46 PM ^
Same here. That was such an obvious gut check moment and I was shocked he went full Lloyd ball in that moment. The modern game just is not played that way anymore.
November 29th, 2023 at 4:42 PM ^
I was confident in Michigan beating OSU again before the season started and Ryan Day yelling after the ND game cemented it that he's an intelligent football coach but this shit has gotten to him and there's no shot this year. Maybe it changes next season depending on if the NCAA forces Harbaugh back to the NFL and there's a talent drop off but that's about OSU's only chance to re-establish dominance. And that's still not a guarantee because, well Sherrone Moore is 1-0 and he'd probably be elevated to HC.
November 29th, 2023 at 4:58 PM ^
Sherrone Moore is 1-0 and he'd probably be elevated to HC.
About that probably part one can only hope.
November 29th, 2023 at 5:29 PM ^
Harbaugh won three Ohio State games and counting in 2021. The third base comment really, really got to Day.
November 29th, 2023 at 10:07 PM ^
Yeah, it absolutely did. It cut him down. He has an internal imposter syndrome as a head coach, and that comment put a white hot spotlight on it.
He is a thin-skinned individual . . . hang 100 on them . . . look how tough we are . . . that responds too easily to outside noise from someone like Harbaugh.
We are used to Harbaugh, so we find him somewhat odd and goofy. But he can be intimidating as hell to somebody who is not sure of himself. He has coached and won at all levels, including the freaking Super Bowl where he lost only to his own brother. He follows his own compass without fear and has an almost robotic focus on all things football. He is a very hard adversary to figure out.
November 29th, 2023 at 4:56 PM ^
Moore cried too, to be fair.
But here's the difference. People like Day manufacture emotions, it's all about appearances. So he called out Lou Holtz because he's been told he's soft and at OSU you can't be soft...which is why he went all "emotional tough guy". Except it came across as a WWE performance. In other words, FAKE. That is the same word I'd describe his penguin jump around "hype" dance.
Moore though? That was real emotional outburst. You can argue whether it was over the top or whatever, but you cannot deny the emotions were real and the pressure he and his team were under was real. Not manufactured "us against the world" because some geriatric coach said something in a random podcast...but real "us against the world" where the rest of the Big Ten hates Michigan for "cheating" and must rush to punish them to derail the season, even if the "cheating" did not provide that meaningful of an advantage compared to anyone else. (In a sport where far worse cheating - tampering, pay-to-play - are all going on out in the open without so much as a sniff of investigation)
November 29th, 2023 at 6:51 PM ^
Sherrone disagrees with the crying comment. Football men can show emotion, too.
What Day did was just...ugh...something else.

November 29th, 2023 at 4:15 PM ^
Your loss. It was an enjoyable read.
November 29th, 2023 at 3:45 PM ^
Whatever else happens, next year is a must win for Ryan Day. If he loses to Michigan 4 times in a row, they will fire him.
November 29th, 2023 at 4:01 PM ^
Im hoping he’s good for 5 in a row
November 29th, 2023 at 4:02 PM ^
Would you enjoy an 11-1 regular season for the Buckeyes,if that lone loss was to the Maize & Blue?
I certainly would.
And, I’ll be at the Shoe next year with my son.
Go Blue!
November 29th, 2023 at 6:02 PM ^
As they used to say in the past, "Return Victorius! Hail!"
November 29th, 2023 at 4:16 PM ^
That's why I'm sure he's safe for next year:
1) Game is in Columbus
2) Michigan is losing a lot of talent this offseason, possibly McCarthy and possibly even Harbaugh
3) CFP expands so its very likely that next year's edition of The Game just determines playoff seeding. Both teams could end up in the BTCG the following week anyway, so even if OSU loses they could still win the Big Ten the following week.
---
But if he loses again next year, under those circumstances, there's zero way he survives.
November 29th, 2023 at 4:58 PM ^
Dude, also, Michigan's schedule next year is death. No idea how the team comes out of that with confidence and managing to keep some plays in the barn.
November 29th, 2023 at 5:59 PM ^
USC, Washington, and Oregon all lose their Qbs too and have a lot of upperclassmen. Texas will be tough...but only if Ewers stays. A first time starter 2 games in vs a very good returning defense for Michigan will be trouble.
If JJ were to stay, Michigan should be preseason #1
November 29th, 2023 at 3:45 PM ^
Hi Ramzy!
November 29th, 2023 at 3:47 PM ^
Apparently it's all about what their hair looks like when they start v. when they retire. Who knew?
November 29th, 2023 at 4:59 PM ^
It was a cool way to discuss his point, I thought.
November 29th, 2023 at 5:52 PM ^
Of course, this phenomenon is known as the Richard Gere effect in academic circles. For those that don't know, Richard Gere's hair didn't begin to turn grey until after he started winning championships coaching Division II football at D'oh!o State in the early 90s. Studies have shown that this was directly correlated with his enhanced understanding of the rivalry with Shelbyville.

"SHERRONE MOORE WENT FOR IT ON 4TH AND SHORT THREE TIMES BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT PLAYERS WHO CHOOSE MICHIGAN GO THERE TO DO - TO SHINE IN BIG MOMENTS IN THE BIGGEST GAMES POSSIBLE."
Damn, that is just awesome. I fucking love this team.
November 29th, 2023 at 5:52 PM ^
That should be blown up, laminated, and hung on the wall at Schembechler Hall, right next to the poster of Blake Corum and his stitches.
November 29th, 2023 at 3:48 PM ^
Ramzy is a very good writer. I like reading his stuff even when Michigan isn't involved.
November 29th, 2023 at 3:49 PM ^
This seems relevant:
SHERRONE MOORE WENT FOR IT ON 4TH AND SHORT THREE TIMES BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT PLAYERS WHO CHOOSE MICHIGAN GO THERE TO DO - TO SHINE IN BIG MOMENTS IN THE BIGGEST GAMES POSSIBLE.
