That's funny because this is…

That's funny because this is a great example of motivated thinking. Wishing for not just "action" but "acceptance" so my brain took that fun little step. :)

The previous three years EA…

The previous three years EA decision were released the last Friday in January at almost precisely the same time (between 2:50 - 3:00pm EST). The presumption is that the school will continue this trend but there is nothing "official."

Ha! Sorry, yeah EA = early…

Ha! Sorry, yeah EA = early acceptance.

Agreed. It is an excellent…

Agreed. It is an excellent piece PLUS there is no more satisfying drink than Buckeye tears.

I'm not following this…

I'm not following this scandal all that closely, mostly because I don't see any way it could impact this season. The Notice of Allegations hasn't even been delivered yet, which will start the 90-day clock just for a response. Then the NCAA has to review the response, decide to proceed with a hearing, and so on. In other words, any competent defense should be able to drag this out for years (see Kansas's 6-year NCAA investigation).

However, I find it hard to believe this guy went rogue on his own. He was making $55k per year yet buying a ton of tickets on the secondary market? I'm guessing he had some financial backing, though I have no idea from whom.

The rule is dumb, and I don't think any of our success has been based on "sign stealing." However, that's irrelevant. The rule is on the books, and so far, this doesn't look good (at least, based on what I've seen). If the NCAA decides games were impacted, it could lead to serious violations. But likely not this season, if ever. So I'm going to enjoy the ride for now.

Ack -- that is small. :(

The money sentence: "Day was born and raised on third base, and met his wife, Christina Ourania Spirou, whom he calls Nina, when they played together on the same tee ball team when she was seven and he was six.[37] "

My most memorable was skiing…

My most memorable was skiing at Beaver Creek. We were putting our boots on for the upcoming day and my son noticed this older gentleman wearing a Michigan shirt. My son was around 6 at the time and a HUGE fan. I told him to go over and say Go Blue. Now my son is super shy and gave me this, "are you sure?" look and I said yeah. I didn't think he'd actually do it (and was so hoping that if he mustered the courage that his efforts wouldn't go unrewarded). Well, he did it, and the older gentleman's eyes lit up and he returned the greeting in a really warm and genuine way (I think he saw how nervous he was). He then walked over to me and said, "You're raising him right." My son was thrilled. The whole interaction couldn't have lasted more than 20 seconds but is still meaningful to this day.

Thank you!!! Let's finish…

Thank you!!! Let's finish off the weekend with a win at Sparty and it will truly be epic.

Thank you so much…

Thank you so much. Completely surreal. The whole process really.

Thank you! I'm already on…

Thank you! I'm already on cry #3!!!

Congratulations!!! As I…

Congratulations!!! As I mentioned above, my daughter was just accepted to LSA so I know how you're feeling. And I completely agree, I don't think I'd have much of a shot getting in today.

Now about that 53k tuition, that's gonna hurt.

My daughter was just…

My daughter was just accepted to LSA. We are thrilled, relieved, and very proud. Go Blue.

I dunno I look pretty good…

From Quinn, but I'm not…

From Quinn, but I'm not smart enough to embed the link so here it is:

You got it. If you're a fan…

You got it. If you're a fan of Torvik (as I am), below is each of our potential opponent's current ranking:

Northwestern 74

Illinois 53

Iowa 40

Northwestern v. Illinois in…

Northwestern v. Illinois in Round 1

Winner of that match-up plays Iowa in Round 2

Winner of that match-up plays Michigan in Round 3

So, either we play Northwestern, Illinois, or Iowa

When thinking about the NET…

When thinking about the NET you gotta think about Quadrants.

MSU = 11-4(Q1) 5-2(Q2) 5-0(Q3) 4-0(Q4)

Michigan = 8-5(Q1) 9-0(Q2) 2-0(Q3) 7-0(Q4)

From this perspective, you can see why MSU is ranked above Michigan given their Q1 record. Now they've got a couple of "bad" losses in Q2 unlike Michigan but then it comes down to whether you reward good wins or punish bad losses.

Fair enough (and thank you…

Fair enough (and thank you for the additional information). I definitely don't know how to distinguish between the resumes of a strong analyst candidate v. a relatively weaker one. His career trajectory doesn't see all that great (which also might be irrelevant to his capabilities as an analyst) BUT that he hasn't been out of football for years seems important. In the end, I trust Coach Harbaugh's decision making more than mine! :)

2 things here: (1) I get…

2 things here: (1) I get that analysts make far less than coaches, but a 100k gig isn't exactly volunteering either (for context, the average family of 4 in the US makes about 60k per year). So yeah, not "great" money and not a ton of prestige but certainly not nothing, which brings me to (2) His trajectory doesn't reek of high skill level or much demand: at the collegiate level defensive line coach at Toledo and worked on offensive at North Dakota State, eventually as coordinator from 2005-08. Parlayed that coordinator gig into Kansas City Chiefs staff helping the linebackers and offensive line (2009-2011). And then . . . offensive line coach at Syracuse in 2013. Possibly a scout after that? So last known job was 6 years ago. I'm still left wondering why him?

This isn't some anti-Sparty…

This isn't some anti-Sparty screed but isn't his coaching career relatively undistinguished for a 55 year-old man (at least based on what I read in this post)? Just wondering how he scored this gig? (and yes, I know, he's "only" an analyst).

Best of luck to the young…

Best of luck to the young man. An instance of where opportunity meets need. Unfortunately, didn't work out. Hopefully both will benefit with a (potential) transfer.

Attention Msgrs. Eubanks, McKeon, Muhammad, and Schoonmaker, opportunities await in 2019.

Torvik has us:

12.3 favorite (68-55), with a 91% chance of beating Penn State

10.7 favorite (72-61), with a 87% chance of beating Indiana

Bill Connelly also posted this article about our win against Wisconsin: Almost nobody beats Wisconsin like Michigan just did. It is a great read.

Rasheed Sulaimon

Maybe I'm overestimating the impact that Sulaimon will have on the Terps but his addition would seem to take them from potentially very good to potentially great (in the Natl Championship conversation).

I was always partial to

"Fuck You Pay Me"

Beilein

Not that this needed to be solidified, but John Beilein is a great, great coach. I wouldn't trade him for anyone.
