Brady Quinn and Lavar Arrington reacting to news of collusion

Very reasonable takes throughout the video.

Remarkable how people who have played the game never seem to go sensationalist on this (unless they're coaching rival Big Ten teams).
November 7th, 2023 at 8:24 PM ^
Almost like there's performers (practitioners with experience), and then there's journalists (theorists with no skin in the game).
Hopefully this doesn't spread beyond just sports, and into politics and business!
November 7th, 2023 at 8:52 PM ^
Spreading into politics and business would be awful. Fortunately, it is unlikely to happen.

Unfortunately, I don’t think that a lot of the sports media personalities are presenting their authentic selves, save Thamel and his weak reporting.
I think there’s more scripted discussions and opinions being portrayed on the bigger outlets like ESPN than is often recognized. If this whole situation has brought to light anything it’s that agendas are very real and the general public has to make the decision not to follow it.
A lot of folks asking for Desmond to take a stand for Michigan publicly and even though he has issued a recent response, he hasn’t really done so on his employer’s platform, which makes sense. If show hosts truly believe what is being reported as facts, then that’s fine but something tells me they’re more puppets succumbing to puppet masters.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:34 PM ^
And these guys have zero reason to like or even stick up for Michigan.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:46 PM ^
Exactly. They both played in the NFL. Professionals.
They get it and at this point, the people who don't get it, are kinda starting to look stupid.
Might as well go on the record, look smart, win the debate.
Brady Quinn and Lavar Arrington, nice work fellas.

A retweet by Josh Henschke. Thought it was interesting, but didn't feel comfortable turning it into a full post until it's fully vetted. (Finding it hard to embed the whole tweet. I included the image he retweeted below so you don't need to follow the link to the entire tweet.)
This is the kind of sage wisdom you’ll find from our connected posters inside The Den. The source this was posted from is rock solid.

Pfffffffffff. (That's a sigh.) I really really really hope so. And hope that's what happens. And hope that's what he says tomorrow.
But he would have to eat SO much crow. And all the other 13 schools would absolutely hate him.
I don't see it happening.
November 7th, 2023 at 9:44 PM ^
Has Petitti made any public statements about this case at all? I feel like everything has happened behind closed doors and we're just getting innuendo from various news sources and people supposedly in the know.
November 7th, 2023 at 9:52 PM ^
That's a good question. I am not aware of a public statement, actually. It seems odd that he would have nothing on the record.
One thing on the record is that he sent the notice about potential punishment. I don't know the actual meaning of such things, but I assume it's one of those things that you send as a formality because you have to, like when MSU sent him their notice of intent to fire him for cause and gave him a chance to respond. There was a zero percent chance they weren't firing him at that point.
November 7th, 2023 at 9:48 PM ^
Perhaps simply an incorrect paraphrase, but I can't imagine a trusted voice saying he should name schools. Simply no way he would be advised to name Rutgers, OSU... The announcement would be "The B1G will defer to the NCAA investigations into these matters.". It might also include a line about investigating use of electronics in 2024, but wouldn't touch upon the current state of widespread sign stealing.

This source must have read one of my posts from earlier. Reads dang near identical.

I’ll believe it when I see it, but this is the sanest course of action from here

A most refreshing voice of reason. Thanks for shariing this.

I think if it's Delaney saying this... Everyone falls in line.
November 8th, 2023 at 8:47 AM ^
I read somewhere, so much shit out there I don't remember where, that Delaney had reached out and said (paraphrasing), dude, you're fucking this up.
November 7th, 2023 at 9:49 PM ^
Michigan may have violated a rule, but the supposed egregiousness of the violation (…a three touchdown advantage!!!) has gone right out the window with the revelations about what everyone else was doing. What’s more, it’s also become clear that the claims of how awful and unfair it was were being made by coaches who knew full well it wasn’t significantly different than what everyone else was doing. Clearly a bitch move by guys who don’t feel confident they can compete with Michigan and want to increase their chances by creating turmoil and removing Harbaugh from the equation (looking at you, Ryan Day). In my entire life, I’ve never wanted to see a team win as badly as I want to see Michigan beat OSU this year.

Brady straight up calling other Big Ten coaches hypocrites over this

Can't believe it but this saga has made me a fan of the guy. He's scoffed at this since day one.
November 7th, 2023 at 8:23 PM ^
Lotta people scoffed at this…until some form of punishment against Michigan appeared on the table. Then they got real righteous real quick

Brady Quinn is actually one of the more level headed talking heads out there and pretty much has been since he started doing it. I can't think of a single instance where he said something I scoffed at. He's a ND guy so he reps them when brought up but he doesn't harp on it or use his allegiance to speak with bias against UM, USC, OSU, etc. He's a lot like Klatt where they do a solid job of just saying what seems apparent and avoiding takes they aren't very willing to admit being wrong about if proven so.
So much of what's wrong with that kind of work is having to be a "hot-take" artists to advance, if you just look at who makes the real money. Then, if their hot-take is proven to be wrong very few will admit it. Most just double-down, trying to benefit again on the attention defending their dumb take brings. It's a total lack of integrity for career advancement.
Guys like Klatt and Quinn clearly care about being accurate more than right, which is how it should be. They'll give an opinion and let the real world results/facts dictate how it proceeds from there. It's refreshing when compared to the sea of bullshit artists out there, some even calling themselves "sports journalists" or "sports writers". That's even worse than when a talking head personality does it.
