"Henne, Henne, Henne!"
First playoff TD pass of his career.
Great story on The Athletic

Henne's Drive. You'll need to click to go to youtube to watch it as the NFL is, well, The No Fun League.
January 23rd, 2023 at 9:46 AM ^
That drive was huge. He is almost certainly going to play a role next weekend as well. My friends were texting me when they scored on his first drive and I told them I saw him play a game a Michigan Stadium in 2007. Its pretty awesome he is still around and with the Chiefs.
January 24th, 2023 at 2:08 PM ^
As a Chiefs fan and UM fan I appreciate everything he's done - he's been a great backup going back a bit now.
But as a Chiefs fan I hope he plays no role this upcoming weekend!

Chad has the best gig in the NFL..... The only one better would have been Favre's back up.
January 23rd, 2023 at 9:53 AM ^
I don't even remember who Favre's backup WAS during that time. Damn, I'm gonna have to look it up. I hate not knowing sports-related things.
EDIT: Oh, wow. It's mainly Doug Pederson! With a splash of Craig Nall, Rick Mirer, and Jim McMahon.
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:01 AM ^
Favre’s most talented backup was Mark Brunnell, who got traded to the Jags in 1995 and led them to the playoffs twice.
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:13 AM ^
No love for Aaron Rodgers? I can't stand the guy, but he's undeniably talented and he played behind Favre for the three years before Favre retired.
Matt Hasselbeck was another of Favre's former backups who had a decent career in the NFL. Never one of the top QBs in the league, but started for over a decade and made it to the Super Bowl with Seattle.
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:25 AM ^
To be fair, Rodgers wasn't a backup in the same sense as the other players. He was the heir-in-waiting, being groomed to replace Favre, similar to what the Peckers are doing with Jordan Love right now.
January 23rd, 2023 at 1:30 PM ^
Sure, but that's your ideal backup.
January 23rd, 2023 at 2:03 PM ^
If they thought Jordan Love was going to be the guy, Rodgers would already be playing somewhere else.
January 23rd, 2023 at 2:51 PM ^
Yeah no love for Rodgers. Sorry if you're in love with that man bun fuckhead. I could probably make a 6 hour movie of how he made a career out of throwing the ball way up high, way downfield, short, and get a PI call that completely changed the outcome of the game. 5.5 hours of that movie would include the Lions.
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:26 PM ^
You mean the guy QBing this 1993 Washington team against Tyrone Wheatley? Michigan's motto seemed to be "Michigan football - the art of running into an 8-man box" but what a fantastic game by Wheatley.
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:50 PM ^
Also the current Lions QB coach - one of many former players (that I remember playing) on staff, including Dan Campbell himself.
January 23rd, 2023 at 9:55 AM ^
I'd say backing up Mahomes is even better. He actually gets to play football in a game every once in a while. Favre's backup is making money doing nothing, sure, but I think football players do at least like to play sometimes.
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:41 AM ^
Todd Collins is another QB that comes to mind. Long term backup in the league.
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:10 PM ^
Collins' career was incredible. He was a regular starter in 1997 and then his next start came in ... 2007. He collected NFL paychecks through the age of 39.
January 23rd, 2023 at 2:48 PM ^
Collins' career was so incredible that some WFT fan wrote a fan fiction blog about him for three years.
January 23rd, 2023 at 1:52 PM ^
...and stand around holding a clipboard freezing your butt off in Green Bay. I'd rather have been Marino's backup in Miami.
January 23rd, 2023 at 9:53 AM ^
How about everyone gets to feel a bit Mgrowolder this morning?
His running mate back in the day, Mike Hart, had a three year NFL career himself and has been coaching college ball now for 12 years!!!! Meanwhile Chad just grinds along year after year after year after year after year after year........
What's really wild is with the NFL's retirement pension predicated largely on service time Henne might become the first million dollar retiree for the league.
January 23rd, 2023 at 9:55 AM ^
Yep, he and Chase Daniel are just living the dream.
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:11 AM ^
Chad Henne is 37 years old, has been in the NFL for 15 years, and is still the youngest former U-M QB in the NFL - by 8 years!
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:05 AM ^
mgrowold, they haven't announced the harbaugh extension yet, and conceivably they won't come to terms, but that $1 still hangs in the balance...
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:20 AM ^
Pay. The. Man.
😁
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:58 AM ^
If you think I'm parting with my dollar to farmer Brown prior to an actual contract being signed you're as batshit crazy as Chad Yoder.
Seriously though, I thought about that this morning but so far all we have are happy tweets from Santa & Jim expressing their undying love for each other while the third wheel in this new love affair sulks but is still around. FWIW I've worked in sales for almost 40 years and one thing I've learned is you cant spend a "AWFPO" (a waiting for purchase order) and right now that's where things stand with Harbs & the University.
I'm no welcher. And I've got a YouTube video still up from 2013 of me eating a freaking lemon to prove it.
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:09 AM ^
dear mgrowold,
please be advised that we have no cash. however, good news, two more lambs were born sometime before 0530 hrs this morning. would you take one of them?
xoxo
farmer brown
p.s. loved your post. i'm still laughing. seriously.

That's 364.8 Hungarian Forints...... Unless XM demands a premium for foreign currency.
83,022 Shibu Ina would work, if XM was into crypto.
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:59 AM ^
We might need to have the conversation about extended payment terms or treble damages for emotional distress caused by delayed receipt of amounts due. Serious stuff here ...
Maybe the obligor can get a NIL arrangement?
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:42 AM ^
as mgrow and i both mention, the deal isn't signed. if harbaugh bolts, i could have to go in hiding so that mgrow doesn't come and rough me up. but, there's still hope he'd take some livestock in exchange for the $1.
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:46 AM ^
Hush ... he's already under contract and the bet was "he gone" versus "he not gone". Just shhhhhh...
Farmers make the worst clients (sigh).
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:57 AM ^
I think...... 2 fresh, cage free organic chicken eggs would probably suffice that $1, in todays market.
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:34 PM ^
Hmmm, let's also include lemons as possible items for payment to Farmer. The Old Guy seems to be familiar with lemons.
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:15 PM ^
He's still got a ways to go to catch Brady in service time.
January 23rd, 2023 at 9:31 PM ^
I always think, "Man, Henne is still playing", and then remember he played AFTER Brady.
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:03 AM ^
He’s always been one of my favorite Mich QBs. The arm strength and quiet way he went about his business was top notch.
Great for him.
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:16 AM ^
It's nice to see him at this stage as well as having seen him play in college.
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:18 AM ^
My first game at the Big House was also Chad Henne's first start for UM vs Miami (NTM). Matt Gutierrez was the expected starter, but had shoulder issues. I had to look in the program to see who that was taking majority of the pregame snaps.
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:59 AM ^
I remember hearing them talk on the radio pregame about the change as I was driving in to park at my usual location on Seventh. All the talk for months had been Gutierrez, so there really wasn't any chatter about the freshman and the whole thing felt totally out of left field.

"Excellence is good."
-Chad Henne
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:30 AM ^
My father in law always pronounced Henne as if the e at the end were silent - even though I know he watched most of his games and could hear the announcers saying it the right way
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:30 AM ^
I'm 32, and while Chad Henne has been a backup for much of his career, he's had significantly more NFL success than any Ohio State quarterback I can remember
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:10 AM ^
My favorite Chad Henne game is definitely the 2008 bowl where they came in unranked and hung 41 on the Florida Gators with Urban Meyer and Tim Tebow. Great way to send that team and Lloyd Carr off.
January 23rd, 2023 at 2:36 PM ^
Unranked due to the nightmare v Appy State
January 23rd, 2023 at 3:25 PM ^
Yeah, Michigan had a -4 turnover margin and still won the game.
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:12 AM ^
Forced me to go down a short rabbit hole.
Far as I can tell Henne does NOT have a SB ring since he was IR and not on the roster for LIV? Correct me if wrong plz.
Griese & Grbac both have one as backups. Then there's the guy who has one for just about every finger.
That's 9 for M QB's. Have to dig way deeper to figure out if a school has more.
As starters ND has 5 - Montana (4), Theismann
Bama 4 - Starr (2), Namath, Stabler
Purdue 4 - Griese (2), Dawson, Brees
Stanford 4 - Plunkett (2), Elway (2)
The list of M players with a ring is long and impressive but I would guess somewhere near top 5ish and not on top.
January 23rd, 2023 at 11:24 AM ^
I am virtually positive if he was on active roster at some point in season that he got one even if on IR at the end. All sorts of people in org get them.
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:12 PM ^
Henne broke his ankle and was out most of the season, so the Chiefs picked up Matt Moore - who ended up leading them to 1 win & playing well in another. Possible that Matt Moore stayed the backup the rest of season while Chad was on IR.
January 23rd, 2023 at 1:01 PM ^
Louisiana Tech - Bradshaw (4)
And ND gets at least one more as a backup (as long as we're counting Grbac, Griese, and Henne) - Beuerlein was backup to Aikman for a Super Bowl. There may be more but I don't care to look that deep into Notre Dame history.
January 23rd, 2023 at 2:31 PM ^
U R correct sir. Good call.
January 23rd, 2023 at 2:23 PM ^
Interns even get rings, a player on the IR is definitely getting one too.
January 23rd, 2023 at 2:36 PM ^
If you watch the vid it seems like Reid points at Henne and says "ONE IS GOOD, TWO IS BETTER", so............... I dunno maybe Henne has a ring. Unclear to who Reid was aiming at.
