Me after reading half the names on that list...
December 18th, 2022 at 11:46 PM ^
That's a hell of an accomplishment. Congrats to all of them.
Any guesses on Mazi's path after a long and fruitful NFL career? I'm going to guess Poet Laureate

It would be curious to see the majors of these graduates and not just their college. Watching games on ABC/ESPN in the 2000s, they would lead off the broadcasts with introductions of the starters - along with their majors. Now they (the broadcasters) seem to avoid referencing school at all, for obvious reasons.
It would also be interesting to see the # of graduates/year from the team that majored in the physical sciences or engineering over the past ~80 years or so. I personally knew a few back when I was there (not starters, but still on the team) - yet it seems to be a rare occurrence these days.
December 19th, 2022 at 6:37 AM ^
Yes, I'd know what percent are General Studies or (if it still exists) Sports Management and Communications.
December 19th, 2022 at 8:05 AM ^
Off the top of my head, football/basketball players who majored in engineering in the last ~10 years include:
- Mark Huyge
- Jordan Morgan
- Matt Wile
- Joel Honigford
- Noah Furbush
December 19th, 2022 at 8:25 AM ^
Furbush was Aerospace and Aeronautical I believe and Huyge was Marine and Naval Architecture … two of the toughest in the COE. I’ll add Adam Coon NCAA Champion heavyweight wrestler Nuclear Engineering and just the nicest “bear” of a man you could ever meet.
December 19th, 2022 at 8:39 AM ^
Saying NAME or Aero are two of the "toughest" majors in CoE can be considered as "fightin' words". 😉
December 19th, 2022 at 8:52 AM ^
Morgan and Wile did IOE and Honigford is in ME. I know Furbush and Morgan completed Master's degrees and Honigford is working on his

I suspect there are more that joined the team as walk-ons; Joey Burzynski is another guy I recall that worked his way into some playing time and did biomedical engineering.

Dave Fisher, Fullback
• 1966 Academic All-America (First Team)
For Dave Fisher, academics and athletics went hand in hand. The All-Big Ten fullback led the Wolverines in rushing as a senior, averaging 5.1 yards per carry. His performance in the classroom mirrored his achievement on the field. In 1966, Fisher was chosen as an Academic All-Big Ten selection and in 1967 he was named the Big Ten Conference Medal of Honor recipient. Fisher later received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and went on to earn his master's degree in 1971.
I was a freshman in the college of engineering in the fall of 1966 and his transcript was posted on a fall in the East Engineering building. Not only was he straight As but he got two degrees in engineering and he did that in 4 years. During orientation we were told that it would take 4 and a half years to complete 1 degree.
December 21st, 2022 at 12:53 AM ^
What happened to Dave Fisher after that?
December 19th, 2022 at 12:03 AM ^
Congratulations to each and every one of them 👍.
Thanks for posting this scanner blue!
December 19th, 2022 at 12:05 AM ^
Wow. So wonderful. Congratulations to the grads. (Congradulatons?)
Thanks for posting.

For the second time this Sunday, thanks---great post 'Scanner Blue'!

Winter commencement is fun! I know it's a boast, but I did it twice. The parties afterwards are more low-key, but very enjoyable.

I would not have guessed that D.J. stood for JuanDrago. Learn something new every day.
December 19th, 2022 at 7:55 AM ^
You have to do some deep searching but he was the little known Puerto Rican nemesis of Rocky Balboa.
December 19th, 2022 at 6:05 AM ^
somebody sent me some pics from graduation showing sainristil, mazi and i think DJ.
happy for our players and what the future holds for them.
December 19th, 2022 at 7:38 AM ^
uploading personal pictures to the message board is not quite a Herculean task, but close. It was probably 45 minutes of my sleep time forfeited trying to get some wolverine snow print pics to load from your back 40.
Let’s just say DJ is proud of his Haitian roots and Mazi is still a huge young man in cap and gown.
December 19th, 2022 at 7:47 AM ^
ha. you're the best, SB.
December 19th, 2022 at 9:58 AM ^
it's a good thing they didn't post on twitter, elon would have suspended them for doxxing!
December 19th, 2022 at 6:29 AM ^
Congratulations. Go Blue!
December 19th, 2022 at 8:23 AM ^
Congrats to all! It's a great accomplishment.
Go Blue!
December 19th, 2022 at 8:34 AM ^
Congrats, gents.
December 19th, 2022 at 9:12 AM ^
Pedantic point: They're graduates. Alumni means you went to the school, but not necessarily that you got a degree.
December 19th, 2022 at 9:40 AM ^
Whilst you are correct, that doesn't make him wrong. These lads are all alumni (and graduates).
December 19th, 2022 at 10:51 AM ^
Seth, you’re preaching to the choir ( and I just sang the Messiah 15 days ago in Hill Aud.) … 5 years of schooling at UM, College of Engineering and School of Education, but no degree. I definitely consider myself an Alum - I completed my course of study. I invested much time and money and don’t regret a minute of it.
December 19th, 2022 at 10:01 AM ^
Congratulations 👏
December 19th, 2022 at 10:02 AM ^
Congratulations to all of our new alumni and alumnae!

Michigan sets record for graduation rate among student-athletes.
"The university also set a record with a Federal Graduation Rate (FGR) of 83%, beating the previous record high of 81%, which was set in 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021."

Leaders and Best!
December 19th, 2022 at 10:44 AM ^
Who cares if Erick All graduated, I hope his ex teammates talked some shit to him and his family.
December 19th, 2022 at 1:14 PM ^
I watched the M-OSU game again this weekend. I noticed after JJ ran in for a touchdown, he was congratulated by a street clothes wearing, smiling, Erick All. It’s sad how things changed after that for All. But he will always be a Wolverine to me.
December 21st, 2022 at 11:10 AM ^
I was standing in front of him in the hallway before the procession. He just seemed like a big, nervous kid who was doing something big, and so a brief "congratulations!" like I shared with any other grad sufficed more than any other encouragement. He had every right to enjoy his college graduation day like every other student in their cap and gown.
It is, after all, a school first.
December 19th, 2022 at 11:22 AM ^
Any word on what The Tunnel's major is? It's a RS 95th-year senior, so it should have decided by now, I would think.
December 19th, 2022 at 12:38 PM ^
Saw this yesterday, congrats to everyone!
Those who stay will be graduates!
December 19th, 2022 at 3:15 PM ^
Congrats to all. UM degree is respected around the world. Another sign that JH is special when his players graduate too! Those who stay will be champions.

Cornelius has one hell of a name.
I can’t help but expect amazing things with a name like that.
