Back in the 60s there was a bar near campus called Mr. Flood's Party. Wednesday night was a big night there with people lined up outside and up the sidewalk just waiting for a seat. Many of the seats were real old church pews and the bathroom walls were painted black. Chalk was provided so that we could right on the walls. The walls were cleaned every day providing plenty of chalk board space for the new crowd. All kinds of people went there from profs to students to plain old city folk and everyone got along. It was a pretty awesome place.
For Dave Fisher, academics and athletics went hand in hand. The All-Big Ten fullback led the Wolverines in rushing as a senior, averaging 5.1 yards per carry. His performance in the classroom mirrored his achievement on the field. In 1966, Fisher was chosen as an Academic All-Big Ten selection and in 1967 he was named the Big Ten Conference Medal of Honor recipient. Fisher later received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and went on to earn his master's degree in 1971.
I was a freshman in the college of engineering in the fall of 1966 and his transcript was posted on a fall in the East Engineering building. Not only was he straight As but he got two degrees in engineering and he did that in 4 years. During orientation we were told that it would take 4 and a half years to complete 1 degree.
You are an ass! in 39 years only 6 schools have won this championship and we are the 7th and you are critical of the coach. go back to Columbus or East Lansing you jerk
Great write up. As a 70s grad I have been a huge football fan since Bo came on board. However, I rank football 4th behind softball, women's and men's bball as my favorite UofM sports. Look at the coaches (Hutch, KBA and JH) and you will understand why. The are all real classy people who care first and foremost about their players followed by the university. Hope to see similar write-ups when softball is in season. Go Blue!
Mike and I grew up together and spent 4 years at Michigan back in the 60s. I really appreciate your treatment of Mike and his defense. I still root for him except of course when he is playing our wolverines. BTW, you can't find a nicer person and a true gentleman. Go Blue.
