Now compare the QB performances among title contenders in those years with this year. Corum is good enough to win the Heisman, but it's a QB award, only goes to a RB or WR when there is no good QB on a good team...
November 2nd, 2022 at 7:36 PM ^
Mark Ingram beat out Colt McCoy and Tim Tebow.
Derrick Henry beat out Deshaun Watson
Those are some pretty good QBs.
I mostly agree with you though. This century, it's been a "best player on the best team" award, which is usually the QB (since 2000 only four winners weren't QBs). Alabama notably didn't have great QBs until the latter half of the Saban era.
He'll need to show up big against OSU, but I think Corum's definitely got a chance.
Side note: Oddly enough in the 90s only 4 of 10 winners were QBs
November 2nd, 2022 at 7:43 PM ^
beat me to it
Colt McCoy 13-1 Texas team 3500 yards and 27 TD
Watson 14-1 clemson 4100 yards 35 TDs
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:16 PM ^
You’re right but 2009 was a different era of college football when voters still put in ballots for other positions outside of qb. That just doesn’t happen anymore.
November 3rd, 2022 at 12:07 PM ^
The most important comparison:
Blake plays for Michigan, the other two played for Bama.
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:23 PM ^
There was no way Ingram was better than McCoy that year. That year made the Heisman BS to me.
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:28 PM ^
Derrick Henry wasn’t even the most deserving RB that year. It’s a robbery by the Heisman trust didn’t award him it in 2015
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:30 PM ^
I'm assuming you're referring to Christian McCaffery?
November 2nd, 2022 at 9:22 PM ^
100%. Christian should have won the Heisman that year.
November 2nd, 2022 at 10:13 PM ^
Likewise, Ingram wasn't even the best RB in 2009. That would be another Stanford back, Toby Gerhart
Though my vote that year may have been Ndamukong Suh, who was an absolute wrecking ball
November 2nd, 2022 at 7:50 PM ^
2009: Colt McCoy threw for 3,521, 27 TDs and 12 picks at 70.6% completions with another 348 yards and 3 TDs on the ground for a 13-1 Texas team that finished #2 in the AP.
Tebow threw for 2,895 yards, 21 TDs and 5 picks at 67.8% completions, with another 910 yards and 14 TDs on the ground for a 13-1 Florida team that finished #3 in the AP.
2015: Deshaun Watson threw for 4,109 yards, 35 TDs and 13 picks at 67.8% completions with another 1,105 yards and 12 TDs on the ground for a 13-1 Clemson team that lost to Bama in the title game.
Baker Mayfield threw for 3,700 yards, 36 TDs and 7 picks at 68.1% completions with another 405 yards and 7 TDs on the ground for an 11-2 Oklahoma squad that lost to Clemson in the CFP semis.
Those are some pretty impressing stat lines from some really good teams. So I’m not really sure your narrative holds up. It certainly takes a special season from a running back to win it, and I’d assume a big part of their winning had to do with big game performance.
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:06 PM ^
That's the key. Big game performance. If Corum goes full Biakabatuka against OSU and carries us to a win, that's the only path to winning the Heisman. And he still has to keep putting up solid numbers until then.
He might be able to put up flashy stats on a small number of carries the next two weeks. Closing out the season from there will be tough sledding.
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:46 PM ^
Current odds on DraftKings:
Hooker -110
Stroud +190
Corum +1500
Is the season’s emotional hedge to bet Stroud right now? If Georgia beats Tennessee this weekend, they have no shot at the SEC championship and I think that kills Hooker’s hopes. Then Stroud probably wins if they beat UM. If Corum puts up 5 TDs and beats OSU, which is probably what it takes for him to win it, I don’t care about my bet.
November 2nd, 2022 at 9:23 PM ^
A QB's award? Hmmmm I remember a defensive player named Charles who beat out a pretty highly ranked QB named Payton for the Heisman.
November 2nd, 2022 at 9:34 PM ^
Payton Thorne?
(It's *Peyton, yes pedantic but I'm a Colts fan and it's a pet peeve)
November 3rd, 2022 at 12:33 PM ^
I'd also like to see Ingram's QB's stats and Henry's QB's stats, versus JJ's. Curious what type of impact their QBs were having to push or pull their stats during their Heisman seasons.
November 2nd, 2022 at 7:21 PM ^
We need to win the National Championship.
November 2nd, 2022 at 7:22 PM ^
The Heisman is decided before the Natty. Corum has to run for 313 yards in Columbus for a victory.
November 2nd, 2022 at 7:27 PM ^
Good catch.
That sounds nice, too. Why stop at Biakabutuka? Get him 348 yards for the all-time single game performance.
November 3rd, 2022 at 12:11 PM ^
If the OL opens holes as big as last year, he might get 348.
November 2nd, 2022 at 7:30 PM ^
Still one of my favorite games to rewatch.
November 2nd, 2022 at 10:08 PM ^
Nice seeing you again, Hatter. Hope you're well.
November 2nd, 2022 at 10:26 PM ^
You as well.
November 2nd, 2022 at 9:23 PM ^
True, but the comment, taken as a statement of fact that stands on its own, holds up
November 2nd, 2022 at 7:25 PM ^
Yeah at first I didn't gaf about the NC, but if it will help Corum get a Heisman, then I guess I can root for us to win the NC as well.
November 2nd, 2022 at 7:24 PM ^
If he played in the 1970's he'd be a lock but the game has changed since then. Now the RB Heisman winner is the exception and RB's drafted in the first round are also rare.
I would like to see an Edge player like Aidan win the prize one year.
November 2nd, 2022 at 7:24 PM ^
In a world that doesn’t value old school football
November 2nd, 2022 at 7:31 PM ^
Ah, Chat Sports. We love to see it.
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:01 PM ^
Sneaky.
November 2nd, 2022 at 7:47 PM ^
That’s amazing! What sucks about the Heisman these days is it almost always gravitates towards QBs who are in the title games. Hopefully this year it gravitates to the running back who is in the title game. Go Blue!
November 2nd, 2022 at 7:51 PM ^
They should make an award for best QB and make a separate award for everyone else, since it seems close to impossible for a non-QB to win it anymore. It gets annoying always seeing Stroud, Young, etc as the leading candidates. Too predictable.
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:03 PM ^
The positions all have their own awards, including QB. So a QB always wins Heisman, so what. A QB always wins NFL MVP.
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:32 PM ^
When players like Aaron Donald and JJ Watt had been more deserving in years past
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:42 PM ^
Perhaps. If the argument is give stronger consideration to really finding the best player, that's one thing. But I'm objecting to the idea that QBs have to be disqualified by rule. If QBs are eliminated, then it will just always be a RB. Then we have to disqualify RBs. Then it will always go to a WR. Then we have to disqualify WRs.

Thought there was a ban on Yoder content here
November 2nd, 2022 at 10:08 PM ^
From Bolivia I confirm that yes there is a ban on Yoder here.
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:09 PM ^
Downvoted due to source. Come on man.
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:13 PM ^
It's a good graphic. The tribalism vs. other media outlets is stupid if there some good info.
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:17 PM ^
Fair enough, My only goal was to highlight Blake Corum. I have zero interest Yoder or Chat sports ( I wasn't even aware That was Yoder's platform or else I would of edited it).
November 2nd, 2022 at 10:11 PM ^
I have a Pizco and lomo saltado waiting for you here next to me in Yoder induced Bolivia.
November 3rd, 2022 at 11:14 AM ^
I feel like since it is a graphic instead of a link, you should be okay. But you might want to pack your bags just in case. It is a good graphic, so there's that.
As an aside, I feel bad for CLord here. I will continue upvoting now that points are back to free you from your prison.
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:11 PM ^
Run for 250 and 4 TDs in Cbus in a win, and he'll be right there.
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:14 PM ^
From one angle (stats), he's got a good shot.
From another angle (now a QB award), it seems less likely.
Still, it's a very interesting comparison. Thanks for posting.
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:33 PM ^
Thats unbelievable! If we win out, make CJ Stroud look like a little bitch against us and Hooker plays bad against Georgia and Bama then Corum will have an excellent case for the Heisman
November 2nd, 2022 at 11:08 PM ^
It wouldn't hurt his cause if also ran for 314 yards in the Toilet Bowl.
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:40 PM ^
"outplay" Stroud in Columbus plus some help from Georgia against Hooker. There's a chance.
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:44 PM ^
Beat OSU and have a huge game and he has a serious chance.
November 2nd, 2022 at 8:55 PM ^
This is amazing, but both those guys were just shoehorned into the Heisman by a combo of being on a championship team and slavish grovelling by the mainstream media.
November 2nd, 2022 at 9:00 PM ^
Looks like he is in a great position historically speaking.
keep racking up the stats.
November 2nd, 2022 at 11:06 PM ^
Only if he did a mid-season transfer to Alabama and Alabama sneaks into the CFP.
