OT: Sparty president Stanley resigns
Link says it all.
October 13th, 2022 at 6:54 PM ^
Article is pretty vague. I'm assuming that he was like "hey sexual assault is bad" and the Board didn't agree? Or was it the other way around?
Because when someone resigns and says that they can no longer in good conscience serve the Board...and turns down a high-paying job at the institution in favor of just fucking off...either the Board are massive dicks or the President is.
October 13th, 2022 at 6:59 PM ^
Hard to say. The board also gave no confidence in him, now he's giving no confidence in the board. I'm guessing the whole lot of them are insufferable.
October 13th, 2022 at 7:04 PM ^
A very good guess IMO.
October 14th, 2022 at 9:27 AM ^
Not the first time "insufferable" and "MSU" are used together.
October 13th, 2022 at 7:01 PM ^
Apparently the president had the full support of faculty and students. Im not that well versed about it but sounds like president was doing a good job and the elected board of trustees didn't like how "woke" he is.
October 13th, 2022 at 7:07 PM ^
If that's the case MSU will get a president willing to put up with such a meddlesome board. I have to think college presidents (like football coaches) are a small community and they probably talk to each other. Did the board just make their own job radioactive?
October 13th, 2022 at 9:31 PM ^
It's gotta be pretty bad already considering the past couple of presidents but it's also a major university with a decent academic profile and research opportunities. It's a desirable enough job and someone will think they can come in and fix it.
They won't get a top-tier candidate but it's MSU - you weren't going to get the A+ options anyway. This may just make it a bit tougher but considering they had to beg Mel Tucker twice to coach them my guess is they don't worry about shame.
October 13th, 2022 at 7:38 PM ^
I was going to say in these situations it’s usually someone trying to make one changes and getting push back from the status quo crowd that just wants omertà style loyalty and silence.
October 13th, 2022 at 9:20 PM ^
My wife is a university administrator who has been casually following this situation. She endorses your comment.
October 13th, 2022 at 9:29 PM ^
Yeah, it most sounds like MSU's BoT didn't like that he held one of their friends accountable for misconduct and that's what got him fired.
October 13th, 2022 at 7:38 PM ^
Maybe he disagreed with the board about giving a 10 year $95 million contract to a guy who's sub-.500 without Kenny Walker
October 13th, 2022 at 11:51 PM ^
"but but but...it's just a raise of his salary paid for by DOnerZ!" - Sparty apologists
October 14th, 2022 at 8:29 PM ^
Maybe he disagreed with the board about giving a 10 year $95 million contract to a guy who's sub-.500 without Kenny Walker
He actually was one of the people pushing back against that guaranteed contract.
October 14th, 2022 at 7:11 AM ^
He is exactly what they needed, A high ethics inclusive leader. His leaving is not good news for them. The NYT article on this stated that he had the full support of the faculty.
October 14th, 2022 at 7:42 AM ^
At a 10k foot level:
-a prof from the business school got handsy with a coed at a party.
-dean of business school found out, slapped the prof on the wrist and buried the news.
-Stanley found out and fired the dean for being an ass hat
-BOT freaks out and goes after Stanley with torches and pitchforks.
-students and faculty unite behind Stanley
October 14th, 2022 at 8:55 AM ^
Well shoot. I guess the silver lining is that the bad guys (or at least some of them) are on the ballot next month, so those of us who live in Michigan can do something about them.
October 14th, 2022 at 9:16 AM ^
Fingers crossed.
But votes for regents/trustees are like voting for judges. 99% of the population either 1 has no idea who these people are, or 2 they're going to vote down party lines rather than the person.
October 14th, 2022 at 10:06 AM ^
I've heard MSU fans describe their board as a sports cult which coming from MSU fans is saying a lot
October 13th, 2022 at 6:55 PM ^
Is it just me or is MSU looking a bit wobbly as an institution lately? The football team cratering is hilarious, but it increasingly seems like they have administrative and leadership problems.
October 13th, 2022 at 7:12 PM ^
Cue the Benny Hill music.
October 13th, 2022 at 9:46 PM ^
It is not just you.
The entire university (students, faculty, staff, and now the president) have taken actions against the board. The board has no confidence in the president.
The past two presidents have been forced out in scandal (one facing legal charges).
Many of the academic departments are beset by in-fighting.
It is a bad situation.

Degree requirements have eroded to keep the dimmer kids they’re admitting enrolled and on track to graduate.
October 14th, 2022 at 11:47 PM ^
The overenrollment issue happens at every selective school, including Michigan. If you went to UM, remember overflow triples and people living in the lounges? I do.
If admissions over enrolls, no one cares except for housing. If you under enroll, everyone has to cut back their spending with short notice and the shortfall might continue for four years. Also, projecting enrollment is not an exact science and easy to screw up.
October 13th, 2022 at 11:27 PM ^
lately? Its been a circus one or another my entire life.
Do want to know the deep root of it? They know they're inferior and always will be. Period, that's it.

What fresh hell is this!?!?
October 13th, 2022 at 8:15 PM ^
Staee BOT are a clown show, this just proves it. Plus faculty gave a huge vote of no confidence for the BoT. Lol!!!
October 13th, 2022 at 8:25 PM ^
Moosecrapman actually suggested the guy to unite them is izzo.
The guy who has covered up at least 7 rapes.
October 13th, 2022 at 9:53 PM ^
I mean, it IS something they can all unite around....
October 13th, 2022 at 10:08 PM ^
Reuniting around a known rapist apologist to fix the current culture of allowing sexual assault to continue.
October 13th, 2022 at 11:53 PM ^
Pass around the ski masks and burn some couches in celebration. Such a move would be 100 percent Sparty.
October 13th, 2022 at 9:00 PM ^
The faculty senate approved a no-confidence vote, by 55-4, in the board of trustees.
October 14th, 2022 at 9:14 AM ^
Whoa - that's an incredible statement against the BoT.
October 13th, 2022 at 10:37 PM ^
Tuck Comin!!!
October 13th, 2022 at 11:24 PM ^
....to rob them of $95 million.
October 13th, 2022 at 10:57 PM ^
At least he wasn't a $95mm, 10 year liability.

I am 43 and really didn't get serious about the college game until I was 10. I don't really understand the bashing, or looking down on MSU? I hated OSU, and ND all my life and wanted them to lose every game they played in any sport. But I never really gave a crap about MSU. Maybe its because I made money and won a lot of 5 dollar bets with friends growing up back when 5 dollars actually meant something.
To me, its not about the issue with any one University that some look down on for their actions. Its the sad part of what all of College athletics has evolved into. Its so much more about money now and seems almost common sense that repeatedly... fingers will point, and some will deny knowledge of a situation because of the money.
And to me the state of athletics says a lot about the state of our society in general. Its unfortunate the world is the way it is. And Fuch OSU and ND! I still could care less about MSU. Why do we even talk about them in the context we do?
October 13th, 2022 at 11:26 PM ^
Wow, you must be new to the rivalry. Let's start with they are a large in-state school in the same conference as us.
October 13th, 2022 at 11:36 PM ^
I'm about your age and of you only started caring about football at age 10 means 1989-90 money, at which point $5 was equivalent to about $11 today. Yes that's more money but it wasn't like you're from the 1920s and you could go to college by beating a couple of rubes betting on the Michigan Wolverines to beat those dastardly UChicago Maroons.
The rest of this post doesn't make a ton of sense either but that part stood out to me.
October 13th, 2022 at 11:53 PM ^
I agree with you. I live in SE Michigan my entire life. My sister got her BA and MA from MSU and is an adjunct faculty member. I could care less about MSU. It would not hurt my feelings if we ever played them again in any sport.
Most UM fans do not care much about Western, Eastern or Central. Why care about MSU?
I distain OSU for personal reasons and F ND because they think their school is so much better when the data proves otherwise.
October 14th, 2022 at 12:25 AM ^
Two people who could care less in one thread. How much less?
October 14th, 2022 at 1:39 AM ^
Came here to say this
+1
October 14th, 2022 at 12:24 AM ^
Exactly how much less could you care?

Staee: We grow grass good and . . . um . . . yeah, that grass thing.

Don't forget about them being good at designing cardboard boxes....
October 13th, 2022 at 11:27 PM ^
The obvious Sparty solution here is to have Izzo coach up the football team and move Tuck over to University president.
