Dylan McCaffrey transfers to Northern Colorado

Shocker
January 31st, 2021 at 7:37 PM ^
Not Wichita State, but Northern Colorado.
January 31st, 2021 at 9:56 PM ^
Unless he really wants to play for Ted Lasso.
January 31st, 2021 at 11:25 PM ^
Seems like a shocker to the authors of this site who repeatedly asserted Dylan would rather do nothing at all than play for Harbaugh.
His plan was to play this spring for Northern Colorado, so he could not have remained on Michigan’s roster.

Like I get wanting to play for your dad, but this doesn't exactly seem like the best course of action for his athletic career
January 31st, 2021 at 7:33 PM ^
Yeah he'd be better off showing off his talents like Chris Evans and DPJ got to do at Michigan.
January 31st, 2021 at 8:04 PM ^
Yeah he'd be better off showing off his talents like Chris Evans and DPJ got to do at Michigan.
Seemed to work for Ruiz, Uche, Bush, Winovich, Gary, Long, etc.

Well he doesn’t play defense and we just fired the coordinator responsible for most of the people you listed. He also doesn’t play OL. Our coaching of skill position players has been abysmal. Raise your hand if you think DPJ is doing well in the NFL or got drafted because of the amazing coaching he got at UofM. He is succeeding because he was a 5* athletic stud. Just like Gary. Just like Dax Hill will be.
January 31st, 2021 at 8:33 PM ^
Last I checked, DPJ was cashing a check from an NFL team.
January 31st, 2021 at 8:46 PM ^
Its not 1994 anymore. If you have the talent, the NFL will find you. Doesn't matter what school you play for.
January 31st, 2021 at 8:56 PM ^
Also helps that your Dad was in the league and your brother is a current superstar in NFL. Suspect DMac will get a few looks.
January 31st, 2021 at 9:25 PM ^
Yeah, look at Trey Lance, he's played a season and a game for NDSU and he's probably going in the top 10.
January 31st, 2021 at 9:31 PM ^
If you're am early rounds talent, yeah sure. But if you're 5/6th round or UDFA your odds are significantly better at a big school with more exposure and better network.
January 31st, 2021 at 7:42 PM ^
Could work out well.
Play the 2020 season at NoCO, show off your talents and then transfer somewhere else with 2 years of eligibility left
January 31st, 2021 at 9:20 PM ^
Matt Gutierrez theory
January 31st, 2021 at 9:26 PM ^
Play the 2020 season at NoCO,
Is this a Twilight Zone type of thing?
February 1st, 2021 at 7:48 AM ^
Nope. Big Sky conference postponed their 2020 season to feb and mar of '21
February 1st, 2021 at 3:10 PM ^
Have multiple transfers ever really worked out for anyone? Seems like itd be best to stay with his Dad at NoCo.
He seemed like a Devin Gardner type, and I was really hoping to see a Harbaugh offense with him. Hope he does well either way.
January 31st, 2021 at 8:09 PM ^
Yeah because playing FCS worked out so poorly for Joe Flacco, Jimmy Garoppolo, Carson Wentz, Tony Romo, Ryan Fitzpatrick, etc......
January 31st, 2021 at 8:39 PM ^
How many of those guys went to a power 5 school before playing FCS?
I honestly don't know, I didn't follow any of their careers and a sentence into typing this I'm curious but not curious enough to google it myself.
My overall point is there is likely a difference between being overlooked or possibly under developed in high school, so FCS is your best option vs being highly recruited and transferring down to FCS.
January 31st, 2021 at 8:55 PM ^
There's also a difference between being a college athlete and being a college athlete with name recognition. A McCaffrey leaving an FBS school to go play for a McCaffrey is going to net some attention. His name alone will open doors for him. As long as he plays well, this changes nothing for his future.

Love when people give examples of outliers to somehow prove that they are a trend
January 31st, 2021 at 8:47 PM ^
Not saying it's a trend, but I'm also not pretending playing at a P5 FBS football school is the only route to the NFL, especially if your last name is McCaffrey.
January 31st, 2021 at 9:02 PM ^
Eh. Trey Lance is a projected top 10 pick coming out of the FCS with only one year as a starter. Dylan could go and ball out playing for his dad and the NFL will still find him if he’s good enough.
February 1st, 2021 at 8:13 AM ^
Is he going to have to compete with his brother, transfer from Nebraska...?
January 31st, 2021 at 7:08 PM ^
Huh, maybe it wasn’t Harbaugh
January 31st, 2021 at 10:47 PM ^
I'm on record thinking it was Harbaugh. There's enough noise elsewhere.
...But this isn't a data point in my favor. It's just weird. Yes, dad and all, but if DCaff is a D-1 capable QB...
Weird.
January 31st, 2021 at 7:09 PM ^
Stevie Wonder saw this one coming.
January 31st, 2021 at 7:35 PM ^
Logged in to say this. Damn you!
January 31st, 2021 at 7:09 PM ^
Got in before his brother....
January 31st, 2021 at 7:12 PM ^
And that explains why he opted out. If he hadn’t, then he wouldn’t have been able to play in the spring when they have their season.
January 31st, 2021 at 7:15 PM ^
Well at least Dad can watch him play. I never understood why Ed took that job with a son in the NFL and 2 playing D1 college football. I would've tried to make as many of my boys' games as possible.
January 31st, 2021 at 7:20 PM ^
Need something else to do 5 days a week. He's very young still. I can barely take sitting at home for an afternoon.
January 31st, 2021 at 7:21 PM ^
Does this mean the bag men gave the family a job to land a recruit. :) In all seriousness, Hope he stays healthy and wins.
January 31st, 2021 at 7:31 PM ^
Could be awkward at family dinner if he doesn't win the starting job.

Going to shitty Greeley is the dead last choice of a college town in Colorado. I sense some desperation here.
January 31st, 2021 at 8:11 PM ^
Taking you’ve never really spent time I’m Greeley. It’s actually a very nice town. UNC is a very good school and a solid program I’m a very good conference. If he plays well there he can still get a shot at the next level
February 1st, 2021 at 10:29 AM ^
I have spent a bunch of time in Greeley. My wife grew up there and my in-laws still live there. I will be there tonight for my kid’s softball practice. Its not really that nice of a town. I can’t imagine going to college there.
February 1st, 2021 at 11:27 AM ^
Went to school at UNC for a year before transferring to CSU. It was... not that cool.
Everyone rags on Greeley and the fact it smells like cowshit all the time but it's just not a college town by any sense. Everyone either went "home" for the weekend to Denver or went to party in Boulder or Fort Collins. The academics are good if you're an education or nursing major but outside of that, they're nothing to write home about. The town itself is pretty boring and let's just say Big Sky conference football is about as relevant as it sounds.
But maybe with the McCafferys in tow, that might spark up a bit of intrigue in the program?
February 1st, 2021 at 12:25 PM ^
I have an ex-girlfriend who moved from there last year. She talked about that cow shit smell. She did not like it at all, which is why she moved.
January 31st, 2021 at 9:44 PM ^
Greeley is not that bad. It feels more like Cheyenne than Denver (and there are more than a few Weld County folks who would prefer the county was a part of Wyoming), but it's really not bad.
January 31st, 2021 at 11:00 PM ^
It's got Weldwerks Brewing so it's alright in my book.
January 31st, 2021 at 7:58 PM ^
His brother is next.
January 31st, 2021 at 8:11 PM ^
I hope he breaks every single season QB record for them, wins the Heisman, and goes on to win 10 Super Bowls in the NFL.
January 31st, 2021 at 8:12 PM ^
All of my in-laws are UNC alums and we’ve been joking about this thinking it was impossible. This is a head scratcher.
January 31st, 2021 at 8:35 PM ^
Big fish in a small pond
I feel robbed that he never got to start a game at Michigan
January 31st, 2021 at 9:28 PM ^
The great mystery is what would have happened if he hadn't been concussed in the 2019 Wisconsin game.
I, too, really wanted to see what he could bring to the table.
February 1st, 2021 at 12:10 AM ^
There's really no mystery at all--he would have been concussed or hurt within a month. The guy seems to have no ability to protect himself.
January 31st, 2021 at 8:36 PM ^
Didn't we know this like a month ago?
