They are so bad, I truly find it hilarious as a fan. I think I have Stockholm syndrome.
October 4th, 2020 at 4:19 PM ^
Couldn't have said it better myself. I consider myself a reasonably intelligent person, but totally bought in after the quick 14 point lead.
I have a problem...
October 4th, 2020 at 8:24 PM ^
OT sorta I totally bought in to the Cowboys coming back again like this is just what we do I guess. Then Dak did a Romo and Denzel Ward ends the rally and I’m suddenly in some time warp
October 4th, 2020 at 10:22 PM ^
I guess technically they still had a shot at that point, but the game was all but over with 3:40 left, when they decided to try one of the worst onside kicks ever. Hell, they still had a timeout and the two minute warning to work with and they were only down 3. Score 24 straight in the 4h quarter, then spot the Browns the ball at midfield and expect the D to get a 3 and out. Not happening. - Kick the ball deep and make Cleveland’s offense get a couple of first downs. The onside kick made zero sense at that point.

See, I legitimately just thought "how will the Lions blow this one?" I have absolutely 0 expectations of the Lions winning anything, ever.
If you take the Lions as some form of comedy vs a sports competition it's actually much more enjoyable. Don't expect to root for them to win, just expect to laugh at the new and exciting ways they find to lose and it will bring back joy to your Lions games. Wish I was joking, but I changed myself to this mindset since the 0-16 season and it's made watching Lions games bearable again. I'm dead serious.
If I could convince myself to change this mindset for OSU games I'd enjoy them again. Sadly, slowly but surely...
October 4th, 2020 at 5:53 PM ^
I don’t even watch them anymore.
October 6th, 2020 at 10:08 PM ^
Nobody should
October 4th, 2020 at 4:16 PM ^
It's the Lions we're talking about. There's no chance they do that.
October 4th, 2020 at 4:18 PM ^
Pleeeeeeaaase!!!
October 4th, 2020 at 4:20 PM ^
Poke 'em both in the eyes with The Pencil.
October 4th, 2020 at 4:28 PM ^
Sooner rather than later! Not seeing any appreciable improvement. Time to move on.
October 4th, 2020 at 4:30 PM ^
no, you've got this all wrong.
they can turn it around!
first, coach should go on a weight gain program. adding a few pounds will help.
then, for the next three years, just draft wide receivers.
after, find one gem of a player, a once every ten years type, and make to ruin his career by keeping him a Lion.
also, change GMs once in a while for the sake of progress.
October 4th, 2020 at 6:15 PM ^
Don’t you need to stockpile tight ends too?
October 5th, 2020 at 10:26 AM ^
1. Agree Fatty Patty need to get on the Weis/Crennel diet
2. That was the old formula. The new one is to draft a position in the top ten that nobody else does. Of course Noah Fant is better than Hockenson.
3. I hilariously just read that Snacks Harrison was looking for a team after contemplating retirement. The Lions crushed yet another talented players soul.
4. They're due for a change. Time to make another bad decision.
October 5th, 2020 at 12:22 PM ^
+1 for Fatty Patty. Excuse my ignorance but had never heard that before and it fits oh so well. Nicely done.
October 4th, 2020 at 4:32 PM ^
Imagine having Matt Patricia as your head coach when Eric Bieniemy is an option.
(And Robert Saleh for that matter, but could've finished Stafford's last few years with an offensive head coach...Beiniemy would be perfect)
October 4th, 2020 at 5:02 PM ^
Do we really want another assistant who works under a hall of fame coach?
October 4th, 2020 at 6:10 PM ^
Coached for Andy Reid? Absolutely.
October 4th, 2020 at 4:32 PM ^
Can the Ford family lease the team out if they won’t sell? I have zero faith the Lions ever find success under the Fords.
October 4th, 2020 at 4:45 PM ^
You are right. Their ownership is the one constant in last miserable 60 years. The Fords do not demand excellence nor accountability, they pinch themselves every morning and say, "Damn, we own an NFL franchise!"
October 4th, 2020 at 6:17 PM ^
"The Fords do not demand excellence nor accountability"
I don't disagree with you, but I think the deeper problem is that the ownership since November '63 has been comprised of people who have zero ability to recognize competence in anything having to do with managing and leading a football team. The Ford's GMs have allowed people like Shula, Knox, and Schottenheimer to work here and then leave, while hiring or promoting mediocrities like Gilmer, McCafferty, Rogers, Forzano, Mariucci, and Patricia, to name just a few.
There is no reason at this time to believe that Sheila has any better judgement on how to hire a competent GM or HC.
October 4th, 2020 at 6:51 PM ^

Not just football teams. The family name on the Glass House in Dearborn didn’t get there because of the current generation of Fords. That is for damn sure.
October 4th, 2020 at 7:26 PM ^
Well, she's a different person of a different generation.
Regardless, if they were successful, then you wouldn't be able to complain about how much smarter you are than the Ford family. I think that's what Lions fans really want deep down more than winning.
October 4th, 2020 at 5:16 PM ^
This^^^^^ There's enough data that indicates the problem is much greater that GM and coaches. It's the shit of for brain fucking owners that perpetually want to count our money and go through the same coaching cycle and know that 65K fans will continue to buy their overpriced tickets.
October 5th, 2020 at 1:02 AM ^
This is correct and applies at all levels of football, athletics, and organizations across all disciplines. If you continually hire and fire for the same position with roughly the same results, the problem isn't the hires, it's you.
In Detroit, one can almost make the case that if you were hired for the head job, by definition you aren't qualified for it.
October 4th, 2020 at 4:36 PM ^
If you want them to tank for the top pick I’d keep him. He knows how to lose he’s shown it.
October 4th, 2020 at 5:02 PM ^
You do realize that Patricia would then find a way to win meaningless gimme games at the end of the season to a) make his resume look prima facie not as shitty and b) also ruin the Lion's chances of picking where they want in the draft?
October 4th, 2020 at 5:15 PM ^
The guy has 10 wins total since he started, with 6 coming in the first season. He can barely even manage meaningless wins.
October 4th, 2020 at 7:25 PM ^
You mean like winning the final game of the season in his first year, knocking us out of the top 5 of the draft in the process?
If anything, he’s proven he’s perfectly capable of winning a game when losing benefits the team.
October 4th, 2020 at 9:33 PM ^
And then had how long of a losing streak did they have to end his next season?
October 4th, 2020 at 4:37 PM ^
For any chance for them to get Lawrence or Fields, they gotta keep losing. So, do not fire Patricia haha
October 4th, 2020 at 4:54 PM ^
To hell with Fields! I put myself through the pain of being a Lions fan every Sunday and have grown to embrace it. Could not stand to see a buckeye QB lead them. Nothing against Decker but I cringe every time I see that red O tat on his arm and my sister-in-law is married to his brother. Most any other position from that school is fine but please not the QB. Would be almost worse than having Ezekiel Idiot on the team.
October 4th, 2020 at 5:01 PM ^
So you would rather lose than draft a guy like Fields because he plays for TOSU? Brilliant strategy.
October 4th, 2020 at 5:07 PM ^
From a Michigan standpoint it makes plenty of sense. We don't need to see perspective commits from the state see a Buckeye turn the Lions into a winner. Ugh...that would just...ugh...
October 4th, 2020 at 5:11 PM ^
But what about the Lions drafting an OSU guy who tormented us last year so we can then laugh at him spending his prime years in NFL purgatory? Think of it like that!
(Granted, if you look at this century's record of drafted OSU quarterbacks, he might not even have to get picked by the Lions to fizzle out)
October 4th, 2020 at 5:29 PM ^
Turn the Lions into a winner? LMAO come on man be serious. The Lions should draft as many Buckeyes as they can. I love having them waste their careers here, all of us will die without ever seeing the Lions win a playoff game. Everyone just needs to accept that.
October 5th, 2020 at 12:40 AM ^
I say lean into it. Meyer GM, Day HC, Fields QB.
At least then one of my teams would be set for a decade.
October 4th, 2020 at 6:13 PM ^
From a personal rooting fan perspective, I would rather have anyone else from another school than F'ing Fields. To hell with him and that whole program right now! That comes from my 100 times greater Michigan fandom then Lions fandom.
October 4th, 2020 at 6:32 PM ^
Fields strikes me as a somewhat better Mariota in so many ways. Both good and bad.
I would rather see the Lions suck for another year or two and use the draft/FA to build the line (on both sides) before putting a rookie QB back there.
October 5th, 2020 at 11:56 AM ^
Yeah, I don't buy Matt Stafford as the problem right now. The OL can't protect him (9 sacks this season--tied for 23rd [if I can count correctly]) , and the DL can't stop anything or get after the QB (3 sacks on the season--tied for 29th right now). With as much as they have spent on this over the past few years (draft picks, free agents), I view this as (not necessarily in this order):
- A talent identification problem: The Lions are picking the wrong players
- A development problem: The Lions are not helping players maximize their talents
- A scheme problem: The Lions aren't putting players in positions to make plays
The only way that I could view Stafford as a problem is that he is a highly paid QB...and that makes him a drain on team resources. So they are paying the QB so much that they can't afford a good enough OL/DL/secondary. That being said -- Stafford Makes $21.3M this season, making him the 13th highest paid QB (ranked by cap number according to overthecap.com). Dak is getting slightly more than $31.4M...
October 4th, 2020 at 5:07 PM ^
So it pained you to watch one of the best defensive players the Lions had (Chris Spielman) because he went to OSU?
Come on man. I don't give an F where he played for in college; if he helps the Lions get out of this laughable history, I'll bow at the shrine of Fields.
October 4th, 2020 at 5:17 PM ^
I’d sure hate to have a wide receiver like Michael Thomas. Or a defense with a couple of Bosa’s. Throw in a chase young...it would be horrible to have difference makers on this team.
October 4th, 2020 at 5:36 PM ^
Or what about Jeffrey Okudah. The guy is horrible and one of the reasons the Lions defense sucks so bad. They pick on him week after week.
October 4th, 2020 at 5:37 PM ^
Dude has played 3 games. Chill.
October 4th, 2020 at 6:02 PM ^
I mean if you don’t trade Diggs, you don’t piss off your best player, Slay, you don’t need Okudah to replace Slay. Just dumb decision after dumb decision. Then they draft 2 RB’s who barely even play because the sign Peterson. Stupid wasted draft picks. The management is a joke. And who didn’t see the former Patriots flunky flaming out before he was even hired?
October 4th, 2020 at 7:44 PM ^
I would take Slay on the contract the Eagles gave him in a heart beat. Team has plenty of cap space. Im surprised it isnt brought up more often just how poorly that situation was handled. You run your best defensive player out of town because your coach can't check his ego and make it right. Leaves you a huge hole where you end up reaching for need. Okudah was/is a really good cb prospect but you dont take defensive backs top 3.
October 4th, 2020 at 6:08 PM ^
CB's need a year. Slay was awful the first year, then clicked and became an All Pro. Jury still out on him.
October 5th, 2020 at 5:18 AM ^
Go look how elite CBs like Ramsey performed early. The ones that worked out were almost instantly good. Even Slay started turning heads pretty early and he was far from the No. 3 pick.
Okudah will almost certainly underwhelm given his insanely high selection.
October 5th, 2020 at 7:10 AM ^
Okudah gave up 1 catch this week...he has improved every week, and this is without the help of pre-season and limited contact during the summer
October 5th, 2020 at 9:15 AM ^
We must have watched different guys. Darius Slay was awful his first year.
