Isaiah Todd Decommits, Will Go Pro
More bad news: the class that looked to have two five-star recruits 24 hours ago will have none.
*BREAKING* Isaiah Todd (@zaytodd) has informed me that he has officially decommitted from @umichbball and will pursue a pro career overseas. He plans to hire an agent.

But hey, we're doing well in CFBRisk!
April 14th, 2020 at 12:03 PM ^
Do we have a "decommits come in seemingly endless waves" tag yet? Or is that just how we're all feeling?
April 14th, 2020 at 12:18 PM ^
One decommit qualifies as a wave?
April 14th, 2020 at 12:36 PM ^
Fair - was lumping decommits, portal entries, near-signees... Is there a single term for all those? Maybe "BPONE comes in seemingly endless waves?" (although that hits a little close to home for those of us with depression/anxiety diagnoses)
Well, at least we can go to a bar and drink it off right??? I mean... wait... what? I'm not allowed to go out and drink?
Well, wine, rum, and tequila are all kosher for Passover - wait, not what you meant. (actually, Kirkland anejo tequila is pretty good to sip on right now)
Looking at the bright side, this probably guaranties that there will be a basketball season this year.

So what dong kick are we going to get tomorrow?
April 14th, 2020 at 12:06 PM ^
Won't be able to buy paint...oh, wait.
I laughed so hard I fell off my motorized boat...oh wait ssshhhhhhhh
April 14th, 2020 at 12:52 PM ^
We're about to lose half our territories in CFB Risk. :D
April 14th, 2020 at 12:05 PM ^
BPONE, welcome back my friend
Rooting for no season in football or basketball. Neither will be pretty.
#baseballschool
I blame that asshole (who was he? I can't remember) who posted the April Fool's "joke" with exactly this scenario. Christopher to ASU. Todd to play overseas. Just kidding!!
You fuckhead. You don't joke about things that are so plausible and bad. It's like saying "Grandma just caught Covid-19 and is on a ventilator! APRIL FOOLS! HAHAHA"
You son of a bitch. Learn how the temptation of fate goes for people. Read some Greek mythology and Shakespeare you Philistine MF.

These might be the funniest+truest=saddest back to back response posts of all-time... (cries into cup of coffee)....

Gonna be great when consensus generational player Emoni Bates, growing up minutes from campus, spurns us for MSU or Duke or something.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:10 PM ^
The NBA?
April 14th, 2020 at 12:54 PM ^
oh, no way he goes to Michigan, too logical.
chances emoni bates spends one minute on a college campus: zero percent.
By the accounts of folks who follow CBA-type stuff, by '22 they'll be allowing kids to go straight to the NBA again.
After the Christopher & Todd news, and rumors that if Bates did have to go to college for a year that UM might not make his Top 5 - I'm here for an end to the charade!
Let HS Juniors enter the draft for all I care - Hell, Bates is only a Soph, why not them too, if a team wants to take a chance?!
Michigan will recruit student-athletes who want to be at Michigan!!!
April 14th, 2020 at 12:06 PM ^
He waited just long enough for Colin Castleton to transfer before doing so.
Fuck him. I hope he never makes it to the NBA. I wish him all the worst.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:07 PM ^
Maybe there's a reason none of these guys want to come here.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:11 PM ^
Yeah, the beaches suck.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:30 PM ^
Because commenters on a shitty blog they've never heard of are mean to European basketball players?
Get fucking lost.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:42 PM ^
Well yeah, we're cursed...
April 14th, 2020 at 12:45 PM ^
It's comforting to know that when we really need unibformed sanctimony, we can always count on you.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:47 PM ^
I honestly think that part of it is that Howard came to Michigan late in the cycle so the only 5 stars the Howard could get in on where the ones who wanted attention or had wandering eyes
April 14th, 2020 at 12:49 PM ^
It's fine if they don't but don't commit and stay committed for a long time and then say you don't want to come.
OTOH. It is decision making time and the significance of the mitigating circumstances in play here surely make sense-even to the most partisan of fans, no? Sadly, no.
Given the tenuousness of next years college basketball season this decision makes all the sense in the world-whether we like it or not. Otherwise, I believe Todd would have stayed with Michigan.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:08 PM ^
You need some help.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:30 PM ^
No, fuck you dude.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:41 PM ^
No, fuck Isaiah Todd.
are you a child?
April 14th, 2020 at 12:08 PM ^
Lesson learned. Five star recruits are a crap shoot.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:55 PM ^
I wonder if Juwan will learn this lesson. Beilein did. Jay Wright did. It's just not worth it for anyone outside of teams that will throw a bunch of money at these guys like Duke, UK and Kansas and even those teams aren't doing better than Villanova and UVA who do it with four stars that stay for 3-4 years. Those programs (and Beilein's Michigan) are much stronger than those at Texas, LSU, Cal (when Martin was there), Mizzou, UGA, ASU where they pay for a lottery pick a season but it doesn't do them any good because it's more turnover with just one guy than it's worth.
but that's all MattD wants to recruit
April 14th, 2020 at 12:08 PM ^
Take me now Covid.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:09 PM ^
And just like that, the wind was taken out of the sails
April 14th, 2020 at 12:10 PM ^
But I had been reliably informed that Michigan had opened the bag and anyone who thought otherwise was a fool
I had been informed Harbaugh is a total failure and its easy hauling in historically good recruiting classes.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:10 PM ^
So a Beilein recruiting class with a side of dashed expectations?
If you look at his history recruiting they are same thing.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:12 PM ^
I was disappointed a few days ago when DeJulius decided to transfer, and also disappointed when Castleton did as well. Then these two gut punches came in. I am more a fan of keeping guys for four years and chasing maybe one 5 star per cycle. It just seems like there is an intrinsic value in coaching guys for 3 to 4 years that's missed by going after 5 stars.
I mean, I'm sure the staff was surprised by a lot of what has happened, but I do think it's important to keep the guys on your team together. Yes, players will transfer, and I'm not saying don't recruit good players, but I'd rather have the bird in the hand. I don't know if this will change how Michigan is recruiting going forward, but I actually think it should. I'm more inclined to go after the 25-100 guys that will stick for at least 2 years. I just think they have more value, and it keeps some inner continuity.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:21 PM ^
That's ok, we got zero 5*s. Gotta wonder how Duke and Ky get four or five 5*s per year to commit and stay? I don't want to hear it's because they win or get them ready for the NBA. That's BS.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:35 PM ^
They pay them. Isaiah Todd implicitly admitted that he decommitted because we didn't pay him when he instead decided to go play in a no-name league with no fans and nothing meaningful to play for.
It was a "no-brainer", as he put it.
Yeah, this isn't even a secret anymore. They pay them and it's well-documented.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:24 PM ^
I don't even know if it's about "recruiting 5 stars" but risk management and understanding the level of commitment from prospects. I'm not saying Christopher and Todd didn't have legitimate interest, but notice that Coach K, Coach Cal weren't the ones left waiting at the altar.
Until they sign on the dotted line they're not coming. If they don't want to sign, you have to mitigate the risk somehow. Could be a 5 star, 3 star, whatever. This is a cruel but perhaps valuable lesson for Coach Howard.
I think the man can coach. We were all excited about Zeb when he committed and he's a big, rangy point guard with shooting ability. Williams looks like a plus glue guy who will look a lot better in advanced stats than traditional ones. Hunter is a polished post player and Johns looks ready to blow up. There is still talent here. If Juwan is a great coach (and I believe he is) this will be a blip.
Well put.
I don’t think anyone disagrees with you but a few days ago we were NCAA title contenders and maybe favored.
DDJ and CC enter the transfer portal. Both have two year upside. This sucks balls
