OT - South Carolina really hates Ohio
It looks like Michigan and South Carolina have something in common. And as it turns out, the Palmetto State's hatred of Ohio is not limited to Clemson's recent CFP encounters with the Buckeyes:
“It’s because there’s a common trope of Ohioans coming up to South Carolina and driving up costs and making it harder to drive around,” a commenter said.
“Having grown up in SC, I can confirm our dislike of Ohio. Worst drivers ever. And they all drive minivans,” one person wrote
“Everyone from Ohio moves to SC and Ohio is the worst. Ever,” said another.
Of course, none of this is scientific, but just a little offseason fun.
Also, NJ hates everyone, and Florida hates itself.

EVERYONE hates Ohio.
January 20th, 2020 at 10:03 PM ^
I live in Ohio after growing up in Michigan. I can confirm they have awful drivers.
January 20th, 2020 at 11:39 PM ^
Can doubly confirm this as an Ohio resident. Also can confirm that my commute on a daily basis fluctuates between 20 minutes and 1hr 20mins depending on the level of fuckery these morons get into on the roads every day...
...I'm also inclined to blame Kentucky drivers. They suck too.
January 21st, 2020 at 6:09 AM ^
This is an excellent comment. It’s to the point now where every time it so much as drizzles, I know I’m going to be late getting home unless I leave work extremely early.

Driving in Ohio is infuriating!! The whole "slow drivers keep right" just doesn't exist there. It's like they see open space on the road and immediately feel the need to fill it. Doesn't matter if the right lane is traveling 53mph, the left lane driver is going to match them perfectly at 53, maybe get to 53.1mph so they can pass.
January 21st, 2020 at 12:18 PM ^
Its funny, as a life-long Ohio resident, I always think that when I get into Michigan. People cruise in the left lane up there... The reason I have been given (and have heard on Dave and Chuck) is it is because the roads are a little less beat up in the left lane. No idea if that's true, but interesting.
January 21st, 2020 at 3:47 PM ^
I have to admit that that the left lane rules are entirely ignored by 95% of Michigan drivers.
It is so horribly frustrating. When the left lane rules are followed (Germany the best example but the US has to be the worst) driving is infinitely easier and safer. Plus you get to your destination sooner and much calmer.

Oh man, the timing here:
On a recent interstate drive, a rush hour motorist in Columbus side swiped me because, and I quote, “I saw you had your turn signal on, so that means your lane belongs to me now.”
Dumb.

"...Ohioans coming up to South Carolina...."
January 20th, 2020 at 10:16 PM ^
Yeah I was wondering about that too. Not sure why Ohioans would be flocking to SC as opposed to NC or GA or FL.
January 20th, 2020 at 10:19 PM ^
Because they don't want to be in that Carolina up North?
January 20th, 2020 at 11:27 PM ^
Oh, they come to Georgia. You can tell because they don't bother to register their vehicles here and help make our traffic worse.
So, if you're working and living here, register here. If you're just visiting, get off the damn roads during rush hour.
January 21st, 2020 at 7:32 AM ^
I am convinced they remove your turn signals if you own a car with Ohio plates.
January 21st, 2020 at 9:21 AM ^
It's one of the few courtesy features on a car that more and more people are refusing to use like a giant middle finger to the other drivers around them.
"You don't need to know what the hell I'm doing so fuck off!"
Umm...it's the law jackweed and it helps others make decisions.
January 21st, 2020 at 12:29 PM ^
I could be wrong on this, but my sister used to live in Atlanta and said she had to pay almost a grand to register her vehicle down there. In Ohio, you pay sales tax when you title (new or transfer) your vehicle. It appears in Georgia, there is a TAVT fee when you title your vehicle down there, which appears to be necessary to register it. From their online calculator, a 2017 Grand Cherokee would be about $1900 to title. So, if you already paid thousands in sales tax in Ohio, I can understand not wanting to do it again in Georgia until you get a new vehicle.
Of course, I could be wrong. Which I have been known to be. From time to time.
January 21st, 2020 at 1:23 PM ^
Just saying that if they relocate to Georgia, they should pay Georgia taxes and register here if they're going to use our roads regularly. If they can't afford it, stay in Ohio.
January 21st, 2020 at 2:30 PM ^
Just saying it costs $16.50 to transfer a title from Georgia to Ohio. It is a bit ridiculous to pay 100x that for a piece of paper.
January 21st, 2020 at 8:00 AM ^
I can confirm they flood NC too. And I agree with the minivan comment.
January 21st, 2020 at 10:28 AM ^
Can't go to a beach in SC or NC without being flooded by Ohio peeps.
January 21st, 2020 at 12:40 PM ^
Uncle Dad needs the minivan for all his kids and cousins.
January 20th, 2020 at 10:20 PM ^
It's entirely possible that ohioans could be dumb enough to travel north and around the entire globe to get to SC instead of just driving south a few hours
January 21st, 2020 at 7:59 AM ^
How does that work for them as I thought most of them believe the earth is flat???
January 21st, 2020 at 8:19 AM ^
This only really works if you assume that the universe rests in a picture frame on a wall in gradeschool classroom in 1953, but. . . yeah.
January 20th, 2020 at 10:39 PM ^
Hey SC. Take a number.
January 21st, 2020 at 3:02 PM ^
I always say to the rest of America, "America, you can thank Michigan for absorbing the preponderance of wrath from these backwards-ass middle-America hayseeds for lo these many decades. You're welcome."
January 20th, 2020 at 10:47 PM ^
The only thing that would make me hate Ohio more is if it were in Florida.
Also BBQ in the Carolinas is weird.
January 20th, 2020 at 10:55 PM ^
They use mustard as BBQ sauce in S Cackalacky
January 21st, 2020 at 7:31 AM ^
Gotta say, I’ve come to really enjoy the mustard BBQ sauce here. It’s not great everywhere, but a majority of places here make really good mustard bbq sauce. It’s a little jarring at first, just because I grew up with the tomato/ketchup based types. But it’s really good.
January 21st, 2020 at 9:34 AM ^
I love mustard based BBQ sauce. Just thought everyone should know.
January 21st, 2020 at 11:49 AM ^
Especially tasty on possum.
Fixed it for you!

me no likey vinegar bbq
January 21st, 2020 at 11:43 AM ^
I happen to like the vinegar based Carolina bbq sauces a lot better than the sticky crap all over the Midwest, but good bbq should be naked anyway.
January 20th, 2020 at 11:07 PM ^
As an SC resident, formerly a Michigander, I can whole heartedly agree that this state dislikes Ohioans.
January 20th, 2020 at 11:53 PM ^
Shouldn't everybody hate ohio?

I'm a New Yorker. We love everyone.

Yes, we're all painfully aware of this NY "love" you speak of.

That's an interesting way of describing rampant, nondiscriminatory sexual assault.
January 21st, 2020 at 12:23 AM ^
Little known fact, South Carolina manufactures more coolers than any other state. I bet the blatant disrespect that Ohioan's show their craftsmanship is another reason to hate them.
*The entirety of this statement is conjecture.

After reading this I’m curious of what Floridians think about all the states whose residents winter in FL. Is there a distinction between Maine and Michigan? How about between New Hampshire and Vermont? What about between regions? Are the plains states distinguishable from the Midwest? Are Alaskans a discrete category? Where do the Canadians fit in? Inquiring minds want to know!!
January 21st, 2020 at 8:04 AM ^
My parents live outside of Myrtle Beach, so we are down there alot in the summer. You can spot a canadian driver from a mile away, even among all the tourist traffic. It would be laughable if they weren't piloting a 3,000lb death meachine.
January 21st, 2020 at 6:10 AM ^
Can confirm

What’s wrong with a minivan I ask? The Honda Odyssey is an economical family vehicle and in no way am I sad it isn’t a crew cab truck or a Tahoe... no way at all....?
