Dallas apparently in play... for Urban
Since the USC thing isn't going to come through for him this year, will the Cowboys be his consolation prize? Lots of nice-looking women in Dallas for Shelley to be pissed about.

What a trainwreck that would be. He'd be faking a debilitating medical condition by Thanksgiving.
December 6th, 2019 at 5:04 PM ^
I just wonder how he is gonna adjust to coaching players that make less than his did at OSU.
December 6th, 2019 at 5:10 PM ^
Yes, please, please, please let this happen. He's so smug and arrogant. It's scrumptious just to think about him getting crushed on a level playing field.
December 6th, 2019 at 6:01 PM ^
It would be even better than that. You do realize that every Buckeye fan thinks he had legitimate health problems and that he would have coached OSU forever if he could have. They'd lose their shit if he got back into coaching.
December 6th, 2019 at 6:28 PM ^
This is the truth. I asked a Buckeye friend if they were upset that Urban bailed on them. He said that they understood. When I followed up by asking “what if he accepts another coaching position,” he answered without hesitation. “Then we will hate him.”
December 6th, 2019 at 8:21 PM ^
Whatever it takes to shut up his family on social media. His wife and kids are insufferable OSU homers.
December 7th, 2019 at 7:45 AM ^
His wife is from Ohio and his daughters husband is an OSU coach.
Of course they’re OSU homers.
December 6th, 2019 at 9:25 PM ^
“Then we will hate him.”
Ah yeah, Ohio fans at their finest.
December 6th, 2019 at 9:20 PM ^
Actually I don’t give two fucks what he does
December 7th, 2019 at 11:32 AM ^
That's incorrect.
You clearly don't hang around too many OSU fans. Most of us expect him to get back in the game. What we're most concerned about is, if he does get back into coaching, the possibility of taking the infrastructure we have with him to his new destination. Coach Mick, Pantoni, et all would be a setback.
Would some lose their shit? Sure. But most of us aren't that naive.
Good try though Joe Dirt.
December 6th, 2019 at 9:58 PM ^
The problem is that the Cowboys play in a division with the Redskins and Giants. Even the Eagles are trying to lose that division. The Cowboys might make the playoffs with a losing record this year.
To see him really get crushed he'd have to go to Washington and reunite with Haskins.
December 7th, 2019 at 1:39 AM ^
Urban’s first rule of coaching: Recruit the best players. Urban’s second rule of coaching: stack the schedule in your favor.
Hmmmm....what are two things different about the NFL vs. college?
December 6th, 2019 at 6:09 PM ^
Nah. We're talking Urban Meyer. He'll win a Super Bowl then things will get weird.
That said, Urban is used to working for guys like Gene Smith, whose job it was to throw rose petals on Urban's path. Working for an egomaniac like Jerry Jones should be quite interesting.
December 6th, 2019 at 4:48 PM ^
I can see him giving the NFL a try, just to see if he can be successful. I doubt he will be, seems much more of a college coach, but hey you never know.
December 6th, 2019 at 4:51 PM ^
Does he name his route tree after wild animals?
December 6th, 2019 at 4:52 PM ^
Maybe his medical conditions?

Best comment of the DAY!!!
December 6th, 2019 at 6:11 PM ^
Yeah, Urban particularly liked the Ostrich. " I see NOTHING."

Lots of great witty comments on this thread. Love it. It's one of the main reasons I come to MGOBLOG.

Please do it. His offense would fail miserably in the NFL.
December 6th, 2019 at 5:01 PM ^
If the Ravens win the Super Bowl there’s going to be a rush of NFL teams looking for spread gurus and quarterbacks to run it. It’s a copycat league for better and worse.
December 6th, 2019 at 10:18 PM ^
and quarterbacks to run it.
That's the tricky part. Lamar Jacksons don't grow on trees. You have to find someone who is both fast and durable, able to pass but, make reads, and is either on a rookie contract or willing to get paid much less than pocket passers. The interesting thing with Jackson is whether the Ravens will be able to invest in him come contract time. There's a reason RBs get paid so little and have the shortest careers.
Personally, I think if the Ravens are smart they'll run Jackson into the ground until his contract is up and then start over with a new QB. It's fucked up, but I can't see Jackson getting away with this style of play for a long term NFL career. There's a reason RBs have such short NFL careers. He might be a unicorn like Frank Gore, but that's a scary thing to invest top-tier QB money into.
December 6th, 2019 at 10:18 PM ^
Remember the days when people on MgoBlog were fearful that Roman might be heading to AA to run the offense?
December 6th, 2019 at 5:08 PM ^
His offense is already in the NFL
December 6th, 2019 at 5:16 PM ^
Urban is a really smart guy (“smart” does not make one “wise” or “ethical”) and I suspect he would work hard and adapt his offense to the NFL. Whether he’d run into other issues is a separate question.
TBH I would think Lincoln Riley is a better candidate and worth the hire if Jones wants to go that way, though.
December 6th, 2019 at 5:01 PM ^
He won't go, but god I would love to see this, just so I could watch his coaching reputation go down in flames.
December 6th, 2019 at 5:05 PM ^
Not sure that would happen. He could just come back to college and quickly repair any rep damage quickly. Saban is still considered a genius and he was a total busy in the NFL.
December 6th, 2019 at 5:50 PM ^
Not long ago, he said, very excitedly, that he would take that job if offered.
He's still young and it's his final frontier.
December 6th, 2019 at 5:04 PM ^
I firmly believe this is going to happen
December 6th, 2019 at 5:07 PM ^
In all seriousness, it would be a pretty good fit. They have a good o line and Dak seems like someone who could run his Haskins style of offense. Zeke kinda sucks but RBs are pretty easy to find.
December 6th, 2019 at 7:02 PM ^
The problem with Dallas in the future is the price they’ll have to pay their top guys. Dak will get his record-setting deal, though I’m not sure if that counts against next year or if it’s just an extension after his rookie deal. Cooper is a free agent and they desperately need him back, and he’ll get paid top WR money. Then you have Zeke eating a nice chunk of that cap when a lot of teams have productive backs on rookie deals. Jaylen Smith got a big contract and he’s got some weaknesses in his game, at least that’s what the “experts” say,
I think the team was set up to win this year, and it’s only going to get more difficult moving forward.
December 6th, 2019 at 5:04 PM ^
Zeke will complain he’s not getting enough carries, per MSU 2015 game
December 6th, 2019 at 5:17 PM ^
Zeke will enter the transfer portal
December 6th, 2019 at 5:05 PM ^
Once he finds out the players are already paid, dont have to play school, and drive brand new sports cars he will decline.
Would be fun to watch them go against the Xiladelxhia Eagles tho.
December 6th, 2019 at 5:06 PM ^
I was hoping Ryan Day would take that job...
December 6th, 2019 at 5:30 PM ^
Why? So they can hire an even better coach who also happens to be 10 years younger?
December 6th, 2019 at 5:07 PM ^
Can’t wait to him and his ego lose in the NFL as so many other college coaches have!
December 6th, 2019 at 5:23 PM ^
I don't think he would take another College job but he just might not be able to resist Jerry Jones' desperate ass throwing cash at him.
Or, he says he is interested to get more money out of Fox.
December 6th, 2019 at 5:29 PM ^
What better for Urbs to learn the TX area inside and out. Establish connections with HS coaches. He jets back to college and lands at Texas in 2 years.
December 6th, 2019 at 5:39 PM ^
please let this happen so I can see him take Ls on the reg
December 6th, 2019 at 5:46 PM ^
Urban has expressed interest in this job. I wouldn’t be surprised if he jumped all over it.
