Tebow rant against CA bill allowing NCAA athletes to profit off of likeness
This has been making the rounds on the internet today.
My favorite quote from this
When I was at the University of Florida, I think my jersey was one of the top selling jerseys around the world. It was like Kobe, LeBron and I was right behind them and I didn't make a dollar from it. But nor did I want to. I knew going into college what it was all about.
That's a great story, Tim.
What about those college athletes whose parents didn't own a 44-acre farm?

Don’t even elevate that shit to that “limited” level. KBRAM. And then he paid every one off. Lock him up.
September 13th, 2019 at 2:29 PM ^
So a guy who grew up privileged and then made millions is pissed off that others are fighting to they can have rights to their own likeness? Something that literally everybody else in the world has?
Tebow is an ass-clown just like that damn Michael Bolton
September 13th, 2019 at 2:31 PM ^

September 13th, 2019 at 2:34 PM ^

Well, it seems that we can tell in this subthread who has seen the movie Office Space and who hasn’t.
September 13th, 2019 at 2:32 PM ^
An ass clown who's done a shit ton more charity work than you'll ever do.
September 13th, 2019 at 3:09 PM ^
So did Epstein. The idea that charity absolves people from being judged is absurd and a red herring.

He’s a missionary. That’s a little different.

Missionary of what???
September 13th, 2019 at 8:13 PM ^
You're wasting your time. "Service" is something that most of these assholes don't understand. They see that he's religious and let the hate and vitriol begin.

September 13th, 2019 at 2:41 PM ^
He doesn't like to talk about his flair.
September 13th, 2019 at 2:49 PM ^

September 13th, 2019 at 7:04 PM ^
Tim Tebow’s parents were missionaries. Lol, yep, he was super privileged. I get it though. He looks like a dude you should virtue signal against. Lol at you
September 14th, 2019 at 9:22 AM ^
Is this a joke?
Tebow was born to missionaries in the Philippines.
Newsflash: Missionaries generally aren't "priviledged" people. They usually give up quite a bit to work in other countries to preach the gospel.
September 13th, 2019 at 2:31 PM ^
How dare he have an opinion. I’m outraged.
September 13th, 2019 at 2:44 PM ^
What point are you trying to make? Of course he can have an opinion. And that opinion can be complete shit.
September 13th, 2019 at 2:47 PM ^
Just because you disagree with it doesn’t make it complete shit.
September 13th, 2019 at 2:49 PM ^
But just because you agree with it doesn't make it not complete shit.
September 13th, 2019 at 3:00 PM ^
Reasonable people can disagree and both have valid opinions. I know that’s unheard of in today’s climate, but it’s still possible.
To call one of the most legendary college football players in recent memory stuff like “ass clown” because he has a different view is just kinda lame, and really doesn’t help the argument.
September 13th, 2019 at 3:28 PM ^
You don't seem to be a person who is interested in furthering discussion through un-lame and helpful comments, so it's interesting that you are so disheartened that someone has called Tebow an ass clown.
September 13th, 2019 at 4:21 PM ^
It's kind of funny, the "ass clown" comment appears to be a projection.
September 13th, 2019 at 2:57 PM ^
I'm curious what you did to end up with your point situation.
September 13th, 2019 at 3:05 PM ^
Obviously, he has had many opinions on the other side of this "tolerant" blog.
September 13th, 2019 at 3:09 PM ^
Got in a profanity laced argument with some folks over someone starting a political thread over 2 years ago. Was then deducted one million Schrutebucks.
For the record, my beef was the blatant disregard for the no politics rule, not the side that it took.
September 13th, 2019 at 3:16 PM ^
a few years back we did have a kind of 'amnesty' thread, you know, like a get out of jail free deal. figure you and muttley are prime for release - been years and though i might have missed you stepping on toes, you haven't been stepping on toes.
September 13th, 2019 at 3:26 PM ^
Yeah, it’s all good XM. I think I’ve started one thread in six years here, so it’s no big deal to me.
I’m just glad I no longer have my credit score linked to my MGoSchrutebucks account. ?
September 13th, 2019 at 3:26 PM ^
If you've been here since at least 2013, you know the no politics rule means no incorrect politics. The correct politics and opinions are allowed, perhaps shushed with a wink and a nod.
September 13th, 2019 at 3:35 PM ^
Yeah, and we all know what "incorrect politics" means on this board.
September 13th, 2019 at 3:30 PM ^
Ah yes, the enlightened centrist, everyone's fav
September 13th, 2019 at 2:54 PM ^
We all have opinions. It's expecting celebrities to necessarily have clear or useful opinions that's often. . . a long shot. Often, they just don't.
I don't even think this one has anything to do with his politics, religion, or well-publicized conservatism. This one doesn't break down that way.
September 13th, 2019 at 2:59 PM ^
He is entitled to his opinion, and unlike (most) of the rest of us, he has lived through the process - he made money for the NCAA and UF by putting himself on the line on the field. I happen to think that the players should be compensated in some manner, so I don't necessarily agree with him. However, most posters have to take the modern approach of trashing, mocking, etc. anyone who doesn't agree with them. It's too bad, and likely comes from today's media, politics, twitter nation.
I have no idea how Tebow grew up...however the OP mentions a family "44-acre farm." Is that actually a working farm these days - that makes money? I used my google skills, and US Farm Data tells me the average farm size is 444 acres.
September 13th, 2019 at 3:44 PM ^
I see the scenario of paying players to be a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. It's hard to argue "the team" three times when WR 1 is pissed off at WR 2 because he gets more passes thrown his way and more people want his jerseys with a 2 on it. Ditto for the two running backs that are platooned. I get the other side too. I also know how hard most kids on any given team work with backups and walk-ons doing lots of heavy lifting so the starters can be prepared for Saturday. Those poor players who only get schollies, and a couple of hundred thousand (that's what it costs per year in the better programs) in coaching and facilities costs and maybe a career in the NFL or NBA or NHL.
Between "pay for play/" CTE, a diminishing stadium crowd in many places (and with the number and length of ads, my many years of attendance at the Big House are going bye bye after this year), I don't know how it will end, but I suspect not well.
While I don't agree with Tebow's logic, I don't disagree with a conclusion that keeps the status quo in place re player compensation.
