Very curious to see where he gets drafted. He was super solid at Michigan but not sure if he's the game-breaking unblockable rush end that the NFL gets fired up over. His combine numbers will probably be insane though...
November 26th, 2018 at 12:08 PM ^
He will most likely play on the interior of the D line instead of at the DE position at the next level.
November 26th, 2018 at 12:10 PM ^
I'm going to guess late 1st round- 2nd round if he does as good in the combine as is expected. If not than I can see him falling to later 2nd-3rd round because of the exact reason you mentioned, he hasn't shown to be that great rush end.
November 26th, 2018 at 5:08 PM ^
Where should Gary, Winovich, and Willekes all get drafted in relation to each other? I see all three having nice NFL careers.
November 26th, 2018 at 10:13 PM ^
I can tell you that Rashan is not falling to 2nd/3rd round. He's solidly in the 1st round range unless his medical check goes bad for him at the combine.
November 26th, 2018 at 12:23 PM ^
A lot may depend on whether he's been playing injured and below his real potential. I think that's quite possible.
November 26th, 2018 at 12:30 PM ^
Gary turning out to be the first number one overall player to be overrated and have an uninspiring career is the most Michigan thing to ever happen
November 26th, 2018 at 12:42 PM ^
Bryce Brown and Dorial Green-Becham would like a word...
November 26th, 2018 at 1:04 PM ^
Who had the better career, Gary or Peppers?
November 26th, 2018 at 1:39 PM ^
They basically had the same career--good but short of the hype. Both will be better pros, similar to Tom Brady. We do get top shelf talent; we just never get its full potential. That makes me sad.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:26 PM ^
Peppers.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:54 PM ^
Peppers was a Heisman finalist. Gary was never once the most productive starting DE on his own team. I don’t care what anyone says, his productivity to ranking says more bust than boom. He was too stubborn to move inside and he was coddled and was given his way to play outside. He was out of position often, constantly ran too see around the edge and never owned games. You want a true end? Myles Garrett at A&M was on another planet compared to Rashan.
November 26th, 2018 at 1:07 PM ^
Literally the year before Gary, Trenton Thompson was the #1 guy in the 24/7 composite. After an uninspiring 3-year stay at Georgia, he left early, went undrafted, signed with the Browns, and was cut before preseason games even started.
November 26th, 2018 at 1:19 PM ^
Fine. All I'm saying is, at the time he committed, we were inundated with writeups explaining how every single number one overall recruit had turned into a top 10 draft pick or was an all American or whatever, and the ones that didn't had off field issues. He was literally the surest thing we could have asked for in a recruit, and he's leaving without doing much of anything. It just feels like same old same old. Obviously injuries played a big part, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating.
November 26th, 2018 at 1:52 PM ^
Gary might not have been an elite pass rusher, but let’s not pretend he wasn’t a very good player. He wasn’t the all American superstar we were hoping for. But he was at or close to all big ten. Calling him a bust would mean you expected sophomore year clowney.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:13 PM ^
Don't underestimate his impact in creating a ton of sacks for Winovich, Hurst and others. He drew the most attention when healthy.
November 26th, 2018 at 3:07 PM ^
If I remember correctly it wasn't just that he was #1--he was consensus #1 and his overall ranking was something like the second highest ever. Gucci Mane points out that he was "at or close to all big ten." I think that means that he didn't quite meet expectations. Of course, injuries played a roll, and maybe expectations should have been tempered--but I get evenyoubrutus' point.
November 26th, 2018 at 4:12 PM ^
Brutus meant unanimous #1 player. Pretty sure Gary, Nkemdiche, and Clowney were the only ones unanimously #1
November 26th, 2018 at 1:10 PM ^
I miss the days when seniors stayed with the team to actually become "senior leadership". And when students stayed to get degrees. Call me old-fashioned.
November 26th, 2018 at 1:12 PM ^
too much money involved for the NCAA.
Osu cheats their ass off. As long as that is running rampant, it's just going to get worse.
November 26th, 2018 at 3:18 PM ^
Hey now, we most certainly still have our asses. We have a lot of asses. In fact we were kind enough to hand you your asses back to you last Saturday.
November 26th, 2018 at 4:51 PM ^
Look at the little bitch sitting in the waiting. Obsessed much? Your team clobbers ours and you still come on this blog to find out Michigan stuff. Scared much as well? Unreal. Go find your cousin and have a makeout session and then make another generation of morons like yourself.
November 26th, 2018 at 5:23 PM ^
But do you have a life? Or a sense of worth that extends beyond signing up and trolling a rival to make yourself feel better. Your team won, so you have life issues to deal with. Maybe it’s that you’ve just got plenty of ass on that face of yours?
November 26th, 2018 at 5:54 PM ^
mad much ? lol
November 27th, 2018 at 12:42 PM ^
Hey, everyone gets a lunch break... and there is really good content here! Personally, I come here for the friendships.
November 28th, 2018 at 10:03 AM ^
Jim Mandich called it "schadenfreud" after the 1969 game.
November 26th, 2018 at 1:16 PM ^
You’re old fashioned.
I am too.
November 26th, 2018 at 1:54 PM ^
Chase says hi.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:35 PM ^
Chase Winovich.
November 26th, 2018 at 3:02 PM ^
Funny, sad, and true.
November 26th, 2018 at 5:55 PM ^
I LOL'd so hard at this comment. Well done, evenyoubrutus. I'm glad somebody had the balls to say it. I only have 4900 points and didn't want to be sent down south. If I had 94000+, well, different story. Those that can, do.
November 26th, 2018 at 12:41 PM ^
Agree with another poster that he'll likely move inside in the NFL. With his athleticism and size I don't see him going later than #20 overall. Will be interesting to see if he sits out the bowl game at this point. If I were him and I played hurt all season I'd probably sit now that the team goals are out of reach. He should make sure he's as healthy as possible for the combine.
Anxiously awaiting Bush's decision next. Really hope he stays unless he thinks he's a guaranteed round one guy.
November 26th, 2018 at 12:43 PM ^
Bush is gone. He is a projected top 10 pick.
November 26th, 2018 at 12:51 PM ^
By Whom? I've barely been able to find him projected at the end of the first round much less top 10.
November 26th, 2018 at 12:57 PM ^
Yea, but one mock draft I saw had two TWO(!!) Iowa TEs in the top-10 overall. So these mock drafts are the dumbest thing to pay any attention to. It's nearly 100% bullshit.
November 26th, 2018 at 1:12 PM ^
Kiper had him at #6 overall a few weeks ago
November 26th, 2018 at 1:28 PM ^
Assume this means no bowl game for him?
November 26th, 2018 at 12:07 PM ^
Best of luck to Rashan! Hope he gets big money. Guy played through a lot here and helped bring this program back. He's probably helping recruiting by declaring early.
November 26th, 2018 at 12:08 PM ^
Best wishes to Gary on a great and healthy NFL career!
November 26th, 2018 at 12:09 PM ^
And so it begins...
November 26th, 2018 at 12:09 PM ^
I wish he could have seen more team success (i.e., a B10 Championship, trip to the CFP) but this is the least surprising or blameable decision possible. Football careers are short and he can change the future path of several generations of Garys with a little luck in the NFL.
Good luck, Rashan, and Go Blue.
November 26th, 2018 at 12:09 PM ^
I think he has been hurt all year and I think he is making the right decision. It was a joy watching him during his time here
November 26th, 2018 at 1:00 PM ^
I genuinely think he has been hurt his entire career here.
November 26th, 2018 at 1:51 PM ^
Shoulder last year and again this year. And that makes it really tough on a position where you need some power in your hand/arm movements. See also: Winovich against Ohio State vs. Winovich in every other game the last couple of years (yeah, I know they haven't announced what his injury was, but considering how he was injured and we were all surprised his collarbone wasn't busted, an AC joint issue is almost certain).
Wish we could have seen him fully operational. If he can get the shoulder issue fixed and he falls to mid first round or later, some team is going to get a relative bargain there.
November 26th, 2018 at 9:40 PM ^
Definitely hurt for most of his impact years at Michigan - sophomore and junior seasons. Freshman season he was learning and playing behind the dudes in the NFL right now.
November 26th, 2018 at 12:09 PM ^
Wow. I feel like the dust hasn’t even settled. I guess I knew it was coming, but man! Am I outta line with that thought?
November 26th, 2018 at 12:11 PM ^
Fair. I guess I just feel like maybe wait a bit. I’m too traditional I guess.
November 26th, 2018 at 12:11 PM ^
Better to be definitive when you know what you're going to do. It doesn't help anyone for him to vacillate.
