It's cold and they've got parties to get ready for. Get off their ass.
November 3rd, 2018 at 5:42 PM ^
Then they are terrible fans.

Gatekeeping makes for terrible fans.

Better fans than you
November 4th, 2018 at 5:27 AM ^
Probably not actually.
November 3rd, 2018 at 5:48 PM ^
Just so you know, not all of us missed your sarcasm.. Nicely done
November 3rd, 2018 at 5:43 PM ^
How many times are we going to ask how and why young fans like and do different things on the board?
November 3rd, 2018 at 6:00 PM ^
Plus Brian makes a weekly mention for the past few years how the stadium experience sucks.
November 3rd, 2018 at 6:46 PM ^
I don’t think he was talking about games like this though.
November 4th, 2018 at 8:54 AM ^
And; whatever "kinda sucks" about the Stadium experience in Brian Cook's view is not peculiar, or even applicable, to the students. (Cost of tickets, time pressure, TV-directed kickoff times that screw up out of town plans, etc.) Then there are the things that all of us have to endure.(tv timeouts, digital connectivity in and around the Stadium, etc.) By the way; these complaints are absolutely true for every televised football game in every big stadium in North America.
Whatever "kinda sucks" about the Stadium experience; it is mostly the same for the students and the general public. But the students arrive later, and leave earlier every single week. It's their right to do that, but for my part I really don't care to hear any of the "up in back" complaints from a demographic group whose basic attendance isn't even all that good.

Alcohol..Pot..etc...
November 3rd, 2018 at 5:57 PM ^
Maybe they have homework.
November 3rd, 2018 at 5:58 PM ^
When I was an undergrad, I only left a game early once. Coming down with what would later turn out to be salmonella will do that. Otherwise, no.
I would be interested to know if there was some event though.
November 4th, 2018 at 12:00 AM ^
Mass salmonella

It's like there's a party in my stomach and every virus and bacterium is invited!

Some have jobs others have homework/studying. M football is great but not the only thing on campus.
November 3rd, 2018 at 6:05 PM ^
I don't understand how anyone leaves a game like this if they were going to go at all.
November 3rd, 2018 at 6:15 PM ^
Can't get booze at stadium. Bad view from student section.
November 3rd, 2018 at 6:23 PM ^
Yeah, my first thought was just that their buzz wore off.
November 3rd, 2018 at 6:31 PM ^
They need alcohol at the stadium. I've only been a Michigan fan since 2013, and the Big House isn't a great experience for me. I enjoy drinking ~10 light beers over the course of a game so sitting at home is better for me.
November 3rd, 2018 at 10:29 PM ^
10 drinks?!
Yes, you best stay home.
Or maybe try cutting it down to 2.
November 4th, 2018 at 12:02 AM ^
Maybe don't tell people how many light beers to have, Sally
November 4th, 2018 at 9:02 AM ^
I don't buy the thing about how it is a "bad view" from the student sections.
Here is what I know, for sure and personally, from having been a student in the 70's and having been a season ticket holder for a couple of decades since.
In the 1970's, students with senior status got to apply for section-and-row-numbered seats that were closer to the 10 or 20 yard line in the northwest corner of the Stadium. And they jumped on those tickets, and chose them for the better view. And underclassmen chose rows that were higher up in the corner so as to get better views.
Fast forward to the era of smartphones, and what we see is students treating the section as general admission, and jamming down as low into the first rows, and then as near to the front rows as possible because... I don't know. It isn't for the view.
November 5th, 2018 at 10:06 AM ^
But you can get booze into the stadium if you're reasonably creative.
November 3rd, 2018 at 6:15 PM ^
Probably rushing to the late shift at Meijers to make ends meet.

Are you kidding? Ultimate insult to the opposing team. Natty Lite has more appeal than your team. GTF off our field.

My daughter was one who left early. I am proud she actually made it to the game. She doesn’t watch football. Cut them some slack.
November 3rd, 2018 at 7:27 PM ^
The game was well over....
November 3rd, 2018 at 7:43 PM ^
They probably didn't pay for the tickets.
November 3rd, 2018 at 9:15 PM ^
Young people are strange and they scare me! I miss the old made-up days, when me and 50 other perfect white people stayed at the game until told to leave by a large white man who we all respected for no reason I recall...

November 3rd, 2018 at 11:16 PM ^
Prolly to fucking rage get off my dick old man
November 3rd, 2018 at 11:17 PM ^
We watched on TV tonight and the student section actually looked full all night.
On the other hand, have to admit we’ve been to 3 home games this year and it emptied out pretty early for those games.
November 3rd, 2018 at 11:45 PM ^
Some students will leave the game early if it's a blow out against a bad team and I understand that. Some people also leave early because they're just not that interested in football and used it as an excuse to drink. I'm really not sure why students left early today besides that it was cold and became a blow out?
November 4th, 2018 at 12:25 AM ^
I'm not sure things are so different than when I was a student about 30 years ago. I came late to the noon games because I was waking up somewhere, heading back to the dorm, nursing my hangover then waiting to walk over (the dorms are kind of far from the stadium, btw) with friends who weren't ready yet. When I got there, the upper seats were mostly empty and people crammed in wherever.
The 3:30pm games were tough to get to on time because there would be a party and beer involved prior. Usually not checking my watch (and no smartphones then, of course) and only headed over when the mass of everyone headed over. I think I stayed for the whole game, but I might have left in the 4th quarter if it was a blowout. Inebriation or its consequences might have been an influencing factor.
I've been a season ticket holder the whole time since then (and had been going to games since I was a kid). I stand and yell pretty much the whole game (I'm not obstructing anyone's view) and even had some "fan" say we were being too loud today. So, I'm not worried about the students and they can stay on the lawn...The kids will be alright.
