Checking in on players who transfered from Michigan
MLive used the improvement week to check in on guys who have transferred from Michigan:

I'm surprised how little production Asiasi has had: 1 catch for 24 yards. (It was a TD thrown by Speight).
October 29th, 2018 at 11:16 AM ^
Well, their starting QB is Wilton, so there is that...I agree though - I would expect more production from him.
October 29th, 2018 at 11:17 AM ^
That says more about his coach/system/team than it does him. I hope he's happy with his choice to transfer because he would have been a major component of our offense this year, probably getting talked up for the NFL.
October 29th, 2018 at 11:19 AM ^
He's a blocking TE in a Chip Kelly offense that already has one of the better TEs in college football in Caleb Wilson so...
October 29th, 2018 at 11:21 AM ^
He moved back for family reasons, so I wish him the best. But I'm not surprised that he's not doing much in Chip Kelly's offense. Kelly doesn't rest his philosophy on the TE's shoulders, besides the fact that UCLA has ... not much ... talent in house. He'd probably be doing better had Speight not been injured before the first game, but still he wouldn't be lighting the world on fire.
I really hope his family's situation (ie: his move back to SoCal) didn't cost him a shot with the NFL...
October 29th, 2018 at 12:15 PM ^
I watched a few minutes of that game and was surprised to see UCLA was playing Boss Tagavaloa (sp?) at Center.
For the non-obsessive out there....Boss was the DL that was the other half of that possible recruiting package deal.
October 29th, 2018 at 1:42 PM ^
Chip Kelly’s offense isn’t doing much of anything.
It'll take a couple years before UCLA looks good...at least on the offensive side of the ball.
October 30th, 2018 at 7:54 AM ^
UCLA had a couple pretty good classes in mora’s last couple years, there’s talent there
October 29th, 2018 at 11:22 AM ^
He was also suspended for several games.
October 29th, 2018 at 12:16 PM ^
I was happy when Michigan landed him and a little bummed when he left, but never quite bought into the board hype he gets. Same goes for people pining away over Vic Viramontes.
October 29th, 2018 at 2:19 PM ^
He was suspended for some games early in the season. So that is the major reason he hasn't been on the field.
October 29th, 2018 at 11:12 AM ^
Wow, I had forgotten all about Ian Bunting. Doing well too. Good for him.
Asiasi is being "sparsely used." Oops.
Kareem Walker. Just ugh.
October 29th, 2018 at 11:15 AM ^
I saw Bunting against Washington on Saturday. Cole and Canteen were the guys who evoked that response from me.
October 29th, 2018 at 11:19 AM ^
Cal's doing a good job with Michigan's cast offs.
October 29th, 2018 at 11:21 AM ^
Are they though?
October 29th, 2018 at 11:22 AM ^
For Cal? Yes. Beating a ranked opponent isn't an every season thing for them.
October 29th, 2018 at 11:25 AM ^
But they're winning with defense. Their offense is 117th in S&P right now, and the Michigan transfers they have are all offensive players. That was my point, that their offense is garbage, so I don't really know what the Michigan guys are contributing to their success.
October 29th, 2018 at 11:40 AM ^
Agreed. The two transfers who I think have made a significant impact have been defensive players: Keith Washington and Brian Cole. Which makes sense. If a player could not contribute to Michigan's offense during the last couple years, I don't see how that is going to change much somewhere else.
Michigan's defense has been extremely good though, and I can see how some guys who were buried on the depth chart may shine given the opportunity.
October 29th, 2018 at 8:12 PM ^
Bunting is leading the TEs in receptions and Mo Ways has played every game, though he’s really the 3rd WR option behind Vic Wharton and Noa.
i think he’s averaging just over 2 catches a game.
October 29th, 2018 at 11:39 AM ^
I was surprised that that Canteen still has eligibility left.
October 29th, 2018 at 5:41 PM ^
Same class as Brandon Watson
October 29th, 2018 at 12:51 PM ^
Who is this Ian Bunting you speak of? We once fielded a young man who looks remarkably similar, but his name was Ole Skillet Hands. Easy to mix them up, I guess.
October 29th, 2018 at 2:34 PM ^
Walker's struggles continue to surprise me. He's a good back who should be able to get more than 3.5 yards against JuCo players.
A TON of guys went to Cal and UCLA.

Mlive: How to "research" an article by looking at a couple box scores on ESPN.
October 29th, 2018 at 11:29 AM ^
Really? I can't believe anyone who read the article would make that comment. It was quite informative and I found it interesting.
Here's a sample for people who haven't looked at it.
WR FREDDY CANTEEN -- Tulane
Games played: 0
After an injury plagued college career at Michigan and Notre Dame, Canteen suffered a shoulder injury in preseason camp that left him sidelined for the season. He had seven career catches before arriving at Tulane, including a touchdown against Ohio State as a freshman at Michigan in 2016.
October 29th, 2018 at 11:54 AM ^
He did use respectively wrong though...that bothered me.
October 29th, 2018 at 12:47 PM ^
You did use "wrong" incorrectly, though. That bothered me.

Since when did ESPN start charting JUCO stats?
October 29th, 2018 at 11:12 AM ^
Magnus does an ex-Wolverines round-up each week over at Touch The Banner. Here's this week's installment: LINK
October 29th, 2018 at 11:22 AM ^
It also has notes on former commits, which is interesting. It doesn't have all the transfers though, e.g., there is no entry for Drake Harris. Is that because Harris didn't have stats this week?
October 29th, 2018 at 11:42 AM ^
I look at that often and enjoy catching up on guys who have left. I will admit to getting a little irritated about the writing though. The fact that Wilton Speight ran four times in a game for "-2 yards" is not a relevant statistic, nor is the fact that a player's interception went for "0 yards." Anyway, I know, free content, yayada, just a little gripe on a gripey Monday.
October 29th, 2018 at 2:11 PM ^
I'm not trying to win the Pulitzer, nor am I watching 20 different games every weekend. It's a collection of statistics.
READER: "Oh, how many yards did he get on that pick? Should I look for a clip of an awesome 75-yard return on Twitter or Youtube?"
ME: "He made 1 interception for 0 yards."
READER: "Cool, I won't waste my time trying to look for it."
I don't have the time or inclination to write 3,000 flowery words every week about a bunch of (mostly) mediocre players who either never played for Michigan or transferred out.

Personally I like your site and think it gives pretty good insight and is incredibly well done for what I assume is a side hustle for you. Like the amount of time and energy you spend on it is impressive, especially if its not your full time job.

Freddy Footwork is still in college? He's gotta be at least 30 by now right?
October 29th, 2018 at 11:18 AM ^
Wheatley should have made the move to OL.
October 29th, 2018 at 11:21 AM ^
He seemed injury-prone. I'm not sure a position switch would have made a difference.
October 29th, 2018 at 11:37 AM ^
He's at an FCS school doing basically nothing, so you're probably right.
October 29th, 2018 at 11:19 AM ^
Did Shelton Johnson (2015 class) ever play college football?
https://247sports.com/player/shelton-johnson-38744/
Also, is Kekoa Crawford retiring from football? Haven't seen a landing spot for him.
October 29th, 2018 at 11:20 AM ^
Three guys that I wish were still around:
Wheatley Jr.
Asiasi
Walker
I get that Walker leaving was probably grades and Asiasi was for personal reasons, but from a football standpoint they would have been great to have this year.
October 29th, 2018 at 11:38 AM ^
None of those 3 would even be playing here right now.
October 29th, 2018 at 11:42 AM ^
Disagree.
Asiasi was very promising in 2016. Trajectory says he likely would have been pretty good this year.
Walker would have played a bit, especially after Evans got hurt. He has (had?) more upside than Tru Wilson (no offense to WIlson).
Wheatley Jr. likely would have been a nice asset in jumbo packages.
October 29th, 2018 at 12:04 PM ^
Wheatley would likely not play here.
October 29th, 2018 at 12:17 PM ^
I know we don't talk about points, but its kind of bizarre that this is +4 and the original is -4.
October 29th, 2018 at 2:27 PM ^
Speculating on why players leave is usually frowned upon.
October 29th, 2018 at 2:49 PM ^
I thought those things were well known? Maybe I'm wrong.
October 29th, 2018 at 12:27 PM ^
Hard to say, but I'd bet Asiasi would be eating most of McKeon's snaps.
October 29th, 2018 at 1:15 PM ^
Harbaugh could really use Asiasi’s blocking.
October 29th, 2018 at 12:35 PM ^
Not sure how you can say this. Wilson has run better for us than Walker is running for a freakin' community college.
I understand his o-line probably isn't any good, but if Walker was really great, he should be dominating in COMMUNITY COLLEGE.
October 29th, 2018 at 11:56 AM ^
Asiasi definitely would have and been a star.
