I have a sneaking suspicion…

I have a sneaking suspicion that if you add up all of the players who are “pretty much told they would get drafted” in a ~250 person draft, you’d get about 400.

I doubt UM will get much of…

I doubt UM will get much of a traveling allotment.  Husky Stadium is big-for-the-small-time at 70K seats, and I expect tickets will be fairly tough to get because it's Michigan.  I expect to buy my ticket on the secondary market from a UW "fan" who'll pay for the rest of his season tickets with my contribution.

You're right, it's 9.  I…

You're right, it's 9.  I only counted 8. That's even more absurd. :)

That's now 8 of the top 24…

That's now (edit: 9!) of the top 24 players in the NFL draft that Michigan defeated this season.

In a world where Michael…

In a world where Michael Penix is a first-round pick, why not Roman Wilson?

Haven't you heard? The point…

Haven't you heard? The point of defense is to stop the pass.  Michigan didn't pass very often, so PSU basically won that game.  Frames is a genius, man!

So, my takeaway is that the…

So, my takeaway is that the NFL guys watched the National Championship game and said, "Yeah, that's it! Give me three of the players off of the squad that managed 13 points and two turnovers against the only NFL-style defense they saw all year! Whee!"

Wasn't that an 'N Sync song?…

Wasn't that an 'N Sync song?  Bye-bye, Bai?

This season was a disaster, and while it's undeniably embarrassing for a loss to Michigan to be a boat anchor... keeping St. John's out of the tournament?  Couldn't happen to a nicer vampire.

Some fans seem repeatedly…

Some fans seem repeatedly stunned that Michigan abides by the rules of the organization of which it is a voluntary member.

No, I think it's just as I…

No, I think it's just as I said -- I think this game was excluded from the rights pool because it was a sweetener to FOX to compensate for OU and UT getting to join the SEC (and its ESPN contract) instead of playing one last year in the Big 12 (where FOX had the primary contract).  This game was originally supposed to be in Austin, where ESPN would have had the rights; they flipped it with the 2027 game.  If you were a TV exec and you had to choose between Texas @ Michigan and Michigan @ OSU, you'd take. The Game 100 times out of 100.

I believe they draft the weekends later in the year -- maybe June?  I don't know exactly how the process works with all three networks, but when it was FOX and ESPN, FOX's contract gave them first draft pick, so they'd pick Week 14, meaning "We get the first choice of games in Week 14," which would naturally be UM/OSU.  Then ESPN would take a turn, and they'd pick, say, Week 2.  They didn't make the selection about the actual games until the 6 or 12 day windows hit, but if you knew you had first choice a given weekend, you could announce it early -- and of course, they know what games are scheduled when, so they draft the weekends with that in mind.

I'm assuming -- without direct knowledge -- that the new contracts are similar.

If FOX gets that game, it'll…

If FOX gets that game, it'll be at noon.  However, I can't imagine that they always get first pick.  I was confident Texas would be at noon because flipping this game to Ann Arbor was a major part of the negotiations to get UT and OU into the SEC a year early.  So I assumed that this one had to be excluded from the normal draw.  FOX will take Michigan @ OSU with its first pick; whoever goes next might well pick USC @ Michigan.  Notre Dame is home against Miami (NTM), so I think either NBC or CBS would take that game.  There's nothing else compelling in the Big Ten that day.

The Constitution stipulates that a president must be a natural-born citizen.  McCain was born in the Canal Zone, but at the time that was US territory and his parents were citizens.  Sainristil was born in Haiti and, AFAIK his parents are Haitian.

I know, I know.  No politics.

But isn't there one thing that could bring us all together?  One thing we could all get behind?

Sainristil for President 2036*!

21-year-olds today were 8 in 2011.  I suspect many of them pretended to be Denard Robinson in the backyard.

You're right that he probably would have needed to ask, though.  I don't generally recommend trying to place yourself in harm's way around an inebriated stranger, famous or otherwise.

Forget Uber.  This is Denard…

Forget Uber.  This is Denard Robinson, in Ann Arbor.  The first sober Michigan fan he found would have driven him home, no questions asked.  Hell, I'd have flown up to Detroit, rented a car, and gone to pick him up.

He doesn't owe anything to me, or to the fanbase.  But he's got a family... a family that he's just let down in a very serious way.  I'm beyond sad for them.

Don't they know that he goes…

Don't they know that he goes out of his way to trip opponents for no reason by failing to phase out of our reality at precisely the right time when the opponent is heading right at him?  Sort of like young Jourdan Lewis, only the opposite.

I was thinking about…

I was thinking about attending the draft.  Then I realized how popular it apparently is, and the free admission they let you sign up for only gets you into a big holding pen half a mile away from the stage.   So if I'm not actually getting to boo Roger Goodell, and if no Michigan players are going to be there in person, I'm not sure what the point would be.

nuh-uh.  Scott Frost's Mom…

nuh-uh.  Scott Frost's Mom said they'd score like eleventy-billion or something.  Her son can throw the football over the tallest mountain in Nebraska, and he's so strong he used to carry the mailman on his route through their neighborhood back when he was a toddler.

Respect for the game. …

Respect for the game.  Michigan's not going to win; there's no need to turn the event into a farce.

Pulling the goalie now would be like Izzo fouling down 15 with 2 minutes left.

Well, congratulations.  You…

Well, congratulations.  You've graduated from "I don't understand hockey" to "I don't understand sports."

You control what you can; sometimes the breaks don't go your way.  This is how people who can think beyond the Neanderthal "grok say goals good!" level evaluate sports, because it has the most predictive strength.  I'm not talking about Scott Frost's idiotic "we outhit them" nonsense in a game they lost by 40.  I'm talking about understanding analytics so that you can be better informed about why things are happening, not just what things are happening.

That isn't how hockey works…

That isn't how hockey works.  4-on-4 and 5-on-5 are barely recognizable as the same sport.  "Yes, there is more room on the ice" is like saying "Yes, the Grand Canyon is big."

And the point was that in '22, if Michigan had gotten to choose the rules, they'd have played 4-on-4, or (better yet), 3-on-3, the whole tournament, because they had one of the best offensively skilled hockey teams in recent college history.  This BC team is similarly loaded and would make the same choice.

If BC lays a hit on Michigan…

If BC lays a hit on Michigan during this power play, Naurato should challenge and hope that Random Hockey Replay Guy will see some phantom major penalty in Michigan's favor for once.  The worst that could happen is Michigan loses their timeout.

Wow, that guy got across the back of the net in a hurry.  Wraparounds aren't great goals to give up, but Barzo launched himself pretty much as soon as the BC guy started moving.  Hat tip to a really good goal.

This is a terrible take.BC…

This is a terrible take.

BC would play the whole game at 4 on 4 if they could.  It's a massive advantage for them with the offensive firepower they have.  Michigan would have done the same in '22.

I'm not even sure it's a trip under the rules -- he doesn't have to trip him on purpose, but he has to do something that causes the guy to trip -- get his skate in between his skates, for example.  Duke simply, well, existed.

It's certainly possible to…

It's certainly possible to trip somebody with your leg, and it's true that intent is not required for a tripping call.  Here's the specific text:

A player shall not place the stick or any part of the body in such a manner that causes an opposing player to trip or fall.

In my mind, Duke got penalized for not winking out of existence as the BC player skated up to him.  I'm sure I've seen that called a trip before, but for the life of me I can't remember when.

The NCAA probably refused to pay to keep the ice surface cold since the last time the arena was used.  A cost-savings move... good for the environment.

I'm not sure how much of it…

I'm not sure how much of it was people "just wanting Howard gone" as it was that he had a reputation, after both the Maryland / Turgeon thing and then the Wisconsin incident, of being a hothead.  It's a lot easier to take a story at face value when it fits into an established pattern of facts.

There is absolutely no way…

There is absolutely no way he'd have been fired this year if he took the entire season off for health reasons, regardless of the team's performance.  I think he'd even have been given another year if he'd come back mid-February to a team that was struggling.  By coming back so quickly, I think he made it look like a minor issue that needn't be considered in a performance review.

The address is readily available on Google. 😁

I'm tempted, but I'm worried that ten other people might have had the same idea.  It'd be funny to send him one copy; it wouldn't be funny to send ten. 🤣

You can also get the Big Ten office address pretty easily with a search (they're in Rosemont, IL).  So, too, the Los Angeles Chargers'.

You can also find an address for Staee, but I think this book will have too many words and not enough pictures for MSU. 😉

I'm sure there have been others, but a Google search for "through the legs assist nhl" currently shows Nazar's play as the third result, so I'm pretty confident in stating that it's in rare air indeed. :)

I went to Tampa last year.  This year, I can’t get out of Austin Wednesday, or even Thursday morning, at a decent fare because the flights are still jam-packed with people leaving after Monday’s eclipse.  So here’s hoping for one more win so I can attend Saturday, and then a second championship of the calendar year to celebrate Saturday night. :)
