i was late 90s as well. GPA in the 3.5 range, 4-5 AP classes, good test scores, band and baseball and debate as extras. Nowhere near top 25 of my class. ~800 person public school in the metro detroit area. No legacy.
And, like you said, it was just a foregone conclusion that I was going to get in. I didn't even apply anywhere else. I think something like 80 kids from my graduating class of 200 went to UMAA.
I am also an alum and I have no doubt that they would laugh at my application if I were submit one now. I have a 15 year old who will likely end up with a IB diploma and a 4.5+ weighted GPA and I am concerned about him getting in.
This is surprising. I thought that the existing model of begging your fans, who are already paying exorbitant prices to attend games and support the team, to donate more $s to pay the players while the athletic departments roll around in giant piles of hundred dollar bills was totally sustainable.
I've been to games at 15, and been around a few more but not for a game. Unfortunately, out of your top 5, i've not been to any for a game. I've walked around Petco, Fenway and Camden and the vibe and structures themselves are top notch.

I certainly won't argue about potential and expectations for next years team being what you state. But the floor...I think any team with as much roster and coaching turnover as this one has a floor much lower than tournament team.
Patroits, Giants/Jets. Broncos, Baltimore, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philly, DC to a certain extent...probably others I am not thinking about. Not sure I buy your premise.
"New staff gave him an honest evaluation" is my favorite. That evaluation was probably something like "you are by far the most talented player on our roster," at which point he said damn, if that's the case i'm outta here.
I don't know about the Fuck It & Chuck It offense, but I believe Bruce Arians runs the definitely related No Risk It, No Biscuit offense. While he is no longer a HC in Tampa, he is football consultant. So Penix to TB.

But did not specifically answer the question of whether or not this was the guy Brian was referring to.

Recognizing that music is a personal taste, and that you may not like DMB, but it is hard to argue the impact and success that they have had over their career. Quick google research show 33m records sold in the US, 7 billboard no. 1 albums and a legacy as one of the top 20 grossing live acts ever. They are 1st ballot HoFers without a doubt.
JJ is a really talented QB. Just like Williams, Daniels and Maye. Will he, or any of them, be successful in the NFL? Who the F knows. It's a total crapshoot which has as much to do about the situation they land in as anything else. Personally, I hope the Vikings trade up and grab him. Playing indoors and throwing to other JJ + Addison + Hock seems like a great position to start off in. And I'd root for them to go 15-2 every year.

I honestly don't know how you can say that. They play was offsides. Literally the entire sequence wouldn't have happened if the correct call had been made. To put this in football context, could you imagine your outrage if an OSU RB stepped a millimeter out of bounds at the beginning of what ended up being a 90 yd touchdown run (or more likely a 90 yard pass...we all know OSU isn't tough enough to run).
Minnesota had at least a half dozen opportunities to possess the puck and exit the zone between the offsides and the goal. It'd be like allowing a football coach to challenge a TD because a player's knee was actually down 5 plays prior to the touchdown

Respectfully disagree with your position on the offsides review. The offsides directly led to the goal. The puck was in the zone and the cycling occurred because of the refs missing an offsides call. It was not incidental to the play. The current system, which forces reviews to the first whistle, seems perfectly reasonable to me...unless you want to get into a situation where coaches have to buzz in a challenge during live play. And that would present potential problems of its own (i.e., coach buzzing a challenge during a breakaway or buzzing a challenge during a long defensive zone shift).
The call didn't benefit Michigan, but it was correct and justice, so to speak, was served. I have no problem with the system as it is.
