Lewerke did not go through concussion protocol

Well that’s interesting. I guess we know he is playing this weekend. Kind of seems like something they should’ve checked out though, no?
November 12th, 2019 at 12:36 PM ^
So this is the MSU concussion protocol. If a player tells you he's good, then he's good.
November 12th, 2019 at 12:46 PM ^
Kind of like their policy on
a) physicians who are serial abusers;
b) Ingham County Jail releases
c) Nerd Rages
d) (alleged) steroid users
e) seducers of unmarried women
and f) athletes that litter
If you say you’re good at MSU you’re good. ?

Add properly licensed drivers to that list

You forgot brandishing a weapon in traffic
November 12th, 2019 at 1:15 PM ^
An MSU player is good if he says,
"I'D LIKE TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR!!!"
November 12th, 2019 at 1:20 PM ^
SHITHOLE
On edit: if MSU was a serious university, they'd use this to fire Mork with cause.
November 12th, 2019 at 1:33 PM ^
They are not, so they will not.
November 12th, 2019 at 1:59 PM ^
I'm certain Mork has a huge file on various "university personnel" ... which protects his future buyout. Sounds just like Congress !!!
Go Blue!
November 12th, 2019 at 2:05 PM ^
Double negative? So they will? Spartans' will?
November 12th, 2019 at 1:57 PM ^
What do you expect? The BoT said in a statement that they cannot conduct credible medical evaluations ever since Dr. Larry Nassar was fired...
November 13th, 2019 at 11:25 PM ^
Sounds like a good idea to me.
November 12th, 2019 at 12:37 PM ^
I'm pretty sure it works the same way in East Lansing if a player is picked up for drunk driving. If you tell the cop you're not drunk, then you're not drunk.
November 12th, 2019 at 12:41 PM ^
And if you are, D'Antonini will just pick you up from prison and suspend your for one quarter of the spring game.
November 12th, 2019 at 12:43 PM ^
Mork hired LJ Scott and his pristine driving record to do that for him going forward
November 12th, 2019 at 1:16 PM ^
Speaking of LJ Scott, I will not miss Fox this year not having to gush over LJ Scott's stats every 2 minutes like they did in last year's game.
November 12th, 2019 at 12:50 PM ^
Or if you're a leader of a rival nation and you're asked by a US president whether you interfered with the democratic process, just say no and he'll believe you.
November 12th, 2019 at 4:55 PM ^
As a political meme, this spits on roughly half the board and provides no value. But if you change it's purpose to describe the trendline of a Spartan fan at Spartan Stadium, and with the neon green you surely can ... whoa, man.
Then it's just brilliant.
November 13th, 2019 at 5:35 AM ^
don't put too much thought into it guy
and yes I just assumed your gender
November 12th, 2019 at 1:22 PM ^
No politics. Keep that shit out of here.
Not sure why people are downvoting facts though.
November 12th, 2019 at 1:14 PM ^
You got it all wrong. That's what happens when they get picked up for sexual assault in EL.
November 12th, 2019 at 12:37 PM ^
Dantonio's comments today are in direct conflict with his postgame presser comments. He told reporters that Lewerke was checked out by trainers following the INT (one play after the hit).
November 12th, 2019 at 12:42 PM ^
I wonder why him and Lewerke are never on the same page. Didn’t last year after the Michigan game Lewerke said he didn’t practice that week right after Dantonio said he did? I may be wrong but I feel like I remember hearing that. Lol
November 12th, 2019 at 1:07 PM ^
You're correct. Lewerke's shoulder injury caused some contradicting statements from Dantonio, their OC at the time, and Lewerke.
All of them said something different at one point or another.
November 12th, 2019 at 12:44 PM ^
That's BS.
November 12th, 2019 at 12:46 PM ^
You heard me.
November 12th, 2019 at 1:01 PM ^
"Check out by trainers"
I'm sure they asked if he was ok and he said he was. What the fuck do you want, like an actual medical examination?
November 12th, 2019 at 1:09 PM ^
Yes, but will the local media that usually gives him a pass do so again?
November 12th, 2019 at 12:37 PM ^
This is not a good look for MSU. Point blank.
November 12th, 2019 at 1:31 PM ^
But it's MSU, so nobody cares.
November 12th, 2019 at 3:19 PM ^
If it's any consolation, they probably win that game if they pull Lewerke right after the hit and protocol him. Or even spend thirty seconds shining a flashlight in his eyes. Because whoever comes in the game almost definitely does not throw a completely inexplicable pick-six. Instead they call a run play and keep the drive going.
November 12th, 2019 at 2:11 PM ^
In terms of bad looks for MSU, this is relatively low on the "This is not a good look for MSU" scale.
November 12th, 2019 at 2:19 PM ^
Blue on black, tears on a river...
November 12th, 2019 at 2:17 PM ^
Since this same concussion mistake thing happened in Ann Arbor, it's a great example of why MSU was able to get away with so much dirty, immoral crap over the years. When Shane Morris got concussed it was a national story. When Lewerke got concussed, I'm not sure anyone outside of Michigan or Champaign, IL have any clue it happened. That's why MSU's trash program has gotten away with all of the trash players in their program - people outside of Michigan can barely be bothered to care about them even when they're good
November 12th, 2019 at 12:42 PM ^
All they need is a stake to put in the ground on Saturday in the Big House and they'll reach Peak Hoke...
November 12th, 2019 at 12:52 PM ^
Close... The difference is that Dantonio would never apologize. He would call it BS when asked about it and then follow it up with "Next Question."
November 12th, 2019 at 12:43 PM ^
Well that's unsettling....
November 12th, 2019 at 12:45 PM ^
November 12th, 2019 at 12:49 PM ^
What a fucking joke. That's now how these things work. That's not how they work at all. The AD, coaches, and medical staff have a responsibility to keep these kids safe, and this is the exact opposite of that. MSU should be getting lambasted for this. Hopefully ESPN or a major outlet picks this up and keeps railing it.
November 12th, 2019 at 12:59 PM ^
keep kids safe has never been the goal of that university
November 12th, 2019 at 1:41 PM ^
....and didn't brian throw a pick-six on the next play?
If so, mork's lack of oversight caused him to lose that game. NICE job mork!!! Truly epic, his negligence for brian's health cost them the game as if he had substituted and done the protocol, rocky could have just handed off and staee would have just punted vs. giving them a gift touchdown!!!
November 12th, 2019 at 12:46 PM ^
You only go through the concussion protocol if you actually had a concussion. Right now, there is no solid evidence he sustained a concussion.
November 12th, 2019 at 12:49 PM ^
Have you seen the video? Getting your bell rung is a concussion. Players don't drop the ball and struggle to get up after a knee to the head for no reason.
November 12th, 2019 at 1:13 PM ^
Also, teammate motioning for staff to come and check him out.
November 12th, 2019 at 12:53 PM ^
The point of the initial concussion evaluation after the play is to determine if a possible concussion was sustained. I don't think it is defensible if MSU did not at least do the initial check after he took a clear shot to the head and had trouble getting up.
November 12th, 2019 at 12:54 PM ^
I am asking this legitimately, because this could all just be a huge misunderstanding:
Is the "concussion protocol" what you go through after you are diagnosed with a concussion? Or is the evaluation part of the protocol? If the evaluation is part of the protocol, then this means he was not evaluated, which would obviously be the issue.
Clearly he was not evaluated in the immediate aftermath since he never left the field after his lineman waved for the trainers while Lewerke lay motionless on the ground.
November 12th, 2019 at 12:58 PM ^
I believe the term “concussion protocol” would refer to a player that has already been diagnosed with a concussion, and subsequently placed in the protocol. The protocol consists of cognitive testing, the results of which are compared against a players’ baseline results to determine when they can be cleared to return to contact activities.
