This is incorrect.

Concussion protocol refers to the entire set of procedures and guidelines pertaining to concussions, including initial diagnosis steps.

Dantonio also didn't say he's not currently in concussion protocol. He said he didn't go through protocol, which to me means he was never properly evaluated.

That's more what I would have thought is the case. Maybe Dantonio is confused about what the "protocol" refers to.

Just to be clear, I obviously hate Dantonio but I'm willing to believe Solari's tweet is not accurately presenting the information.

I agree that the concussion protocol refers to the entire procedures, including the evaluation. However, when fans/media refer to the protocol colloquially, they've almost always separated the two between evaluation (unknown) and protocol (concussed). So, despite us not liking Dantonio, I think it's at least possible he's referring to the latter.

Here is NCAA Bylaw 3.2.4.20(b):

An active member institution shall have a concussion management plan for its student-athletes. The plan shall include, but is not limited to, a process that ensures a student-athlete who exhibits signs, symptoms or behaviors consistent with a concussion shall be removed from athletics activities (e.g., competition, practice, conditioning sessions) and evaluated by a medical staff member (e.g., sports medicine staff, team physician) with experience in the evaluation and management of concussions;

So the concussion protocol is the required evaluation by a medical staff member of any athlete who "exhibits signs, symptoms or behaviors consistent with a concussion."  It doesn't matter if he had a concussion or not, if you get hit in the head and appear not to be oriented immediately afterward, that is a sign consistent with a concussion and you must be evaluated, by NCAA Bylaw.

It's honestly shocking for a coach in 2019 to say something like that. I hope this gets some media attention and he gets roasted for it, but I kinda doubt it.

This doesn’t surprise me at all.  In fact I expect it.  They circle the wagons for sexual assault and rape.  You think they’re gonna do the right thing over a concussion?

This seems so crazy on the face of it. If a player is clearly woozy and struggling to stand then you check him out! If he's fine the it only costs you a few minutes, it's not a permanent ban like a red lock.

To those clamoring for some sort of consequence for Dantonio in "neglecting safety of a human being for a game" - I'll have you know that Bill Beekman has already issued a press release stating that he made Dantonio call his mother and that he will be red locked until the next practice starts.

What more do you guys want - do you want him to get a littering fine too?

Woah woah woah.

Maybe Mork misspoke. I think you can say a lot of things about Mork D’onterno and MSU but questioning their integrity is certainly not one of them.

Maybe Mork is going to send a QB that everyone knows got concussed out there in hopes that we won’t hit him too hard. It certainly wouldn’t be the sleaziest thing the MSU sports program has done.

I don’t have fucks left to give about MSU. If Lewerke voluntarily wants to put his health at risk for a coach and university that clearly doesn’t give a shit about their students or student athletes, that’s his and his family’s decision. Good luck practicing with a concussed qb all week.

Yeah, no shit. If he was evaluated he wouldn't have gone back in the Illinois game and probably wouldn't be playing this week.

Edit to add: Also, I think his name should be Mork Dontaskdonttellio for the remainder of the week.

Dantonio is a depressed and defeated guy. His skin must be crawling with a desire to get out of there. Unlike the guys who are popping bponers, I'm thinking this one grows painful to look at by the second quarter.

EDIT: Wonder if this provides upper admin a pretext to get rid of him. Oh wait, he hired them.

This isn't the first time a few years ago one of their defensive lineman , I don't remember if it was Gholston or the other defensive end around the same time wobbled to the sidelines disappeared into the group of players. When they asked Dantonio afterwards Dantonio said it's not his job to do a medical evaluation they have people who do that. The reporter ask did anyone check him out Dantonio responded I don't know again it's not my job I'm assuming they did. And the kid came out and played the next series I don't know why the Media cuts dantonio slack, the guy is a world-class ass.

He throws a fit over a player sticking stake in their field and disrespecting their home when his own team tried to stick the flag in the center of the field at Notre Dame but missed by 10 yards and planted it on the 40. Or how he didn't Shake Harbaugh's hand after the fumbled punt snap said he got caught up in a motion or how he taunted the Michigan crowd asking where are all the Wolverines at the list goes on and on with this ass hat

You know, I believe it was Seybert who was trying to get the medical staff out there on Lewerke's behalf. I can't even imagine how that looks to a locker room, that they showed that little concern for a player's condition.

“I’m fine,” Lewerke said after the game. “My head was ringing for a little bit, but it wasn’t anything serious I don’t think. It was a tough hit and it definitely rung my bell for a little bit, but I think I was fine.”

Got your bell rung. Huh, I wonder what that might be....
