CC - John Calipari
Top five recruiting class every year. Only one national title to show for. Folks down south are getting tired of him. He is losing to Oakland as we speak - if he’s out the first weekend of March Madness (again) I think he will have a very hot seat. Let’s bring him in and restructure Michigan basketball.
We find a way to do both in football, and Duke is unable to manage that feat. I think it's very difficult, if not impossible, to devote the level of resources required to "do both" at multiple major sports. I can't think of any examples of universities that meet that criteria in both football and men's basketball.
It's hard to maintain even one at an elite level. Some schools have done both (Texas, Florida, osu, UM) for a few years, but nobody can do both consistently, it seems.

Scruggs? Baggage? Big Michigan fan but stay off the high horse Michigan wouldn’t hire anyone with baggage a list could be made.

What baggage? We even hire drunks now.
Not sure he would be as successful recruiting at Michigan.

Getting Freshman in here is not usually a problem. Most of the kids Cal recruits are pretty good students. Anthony Davis, Karl Anthony Towns, Devin Booker & Reed Sheppard are far from problem kids.
Doesn’t impress me as the guy that follows the rules. More like bend them before they break. Probably laughed his ass off at the cheeseburger infraction. If he J-walks on Main Street we’ll get penalized.

What rules? If anything his advantage is gone now that the NCAA can do nothing to stop pay or play.
Too much baggage for our administration. Plus, I think his best years are behind him. Lastly, he doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who want to coach the second fiddle sport at his university.

if two previous DUIs aren't enough baggage for this admin then I think Calipari would be fine.

The baggage thing is a subjective misnomer. I don’t like the guy and I think he’s gives off shady creep vibes but besides the whole Derrick Rose SAT thing at Memphis in like 2008, the baggage thing is fodder perspective.
He might not be the squeaky clean church mouse that Beilein was but he hasn’t slapped an opposing coach yet and that guy just recently got the boot so I think we can leave that baggage behind, ya get me?
Red Wings are up 5-1 and I’m drinking Blackened
The advertising patch is still ugly
Edit-Wings win 6-3

This is a really bad idea.

Greg Kampe is a really bad idea, yet Calipari is way worse.
Michigan haters would be out in full force if this were to happen!
March 21st, 2024 at 10:07 PM ^
Michigan fans would outnumber them.
First of all, he’s got a ton left on his contract. Second of all, for having pretty much a top 1-2 class every year he’s under performed. I don’t want a one and done NBA farm system.

This. How did you enjoy Moussa snd Caleb? Jett?
this is right up there with will wade. hey, rick pitino might be willing. isn’t dave bliss out there and waiting for another shot?

I wish I could upvote you more. I saw the topic headline, thought it was a joke, and clicked to see the punchline. Never, ever, ever.
I'm so glad our fans have little to no influence on these things. This is such a fucking stupid idea.
If Michigan’s tournament drought was longer than longer than 5 years, this would be a great move to instantaneously rebuild the roster into a tournament team. Michigan isn’t in that desperate of spot yet.
Was going to say this would be a hire that says “we just want to make the tournament every year. Don’t care how you do it or what happens once you get there.”
We are likely looking at a long tournament drought. I wouldn't be surprised if it goes longer than 5 years.
Foul before the clock and it’s not intentional

No thanks on Calipari
Totally not Calipari rated, but didn't want to make an entire other CC thread for a guy I know nothing about, but is Dana Altman, HC at Oregon, worth looking at?
If this was a few years ago, yes.
However, he is getting up there in age (would be 66 going on 67 to start next season - slightly older than Beilein was his last year).
I also think his shine has worn off a bit. The past 2-3 seasons have been pretty average by Altman standards.
He is also at a big-name school in Oregon - with better basketball facilities, a better arena, the total Nike backing from Uncle Phil.
Finally, he is going to be in the conference next year anyway, so its not like he is moving up to a better conference.
Go, Golden Grizzlies!
Happy to see I wasn’t the only one who had this thought when I saw the final score.
Calipari can't coach a decent team with NIL... imagine what Juwan could do with that level of $upport
Fail to teach defense or rebounding to four 5 stars at once instead of just two at a time?

I was going to say have a physical altercation with his own son in front of the entire team and lead the way for having a beloved S&C coach leave the program but what you said is technically more accurate.
Been doing less with more for the better part of a decade.
He out-recruits everyone and hasn’t made a Final Four since 2015.
I'd rather have Greg Kampe, to be honest.
No. Just no. Please stop. Look at his recent teams.
This aged like spoiled milk in the summer.
I’d rather lose
Instead of losing while relearning 2-3 names per year, we would lose while relearning 8-9 per year. No thanks!
