Mario Eugenio Decommit
After a long conversation with my family I have decided to decommit from the University of Michigan I thank @CoachRyanOsborn @MikeMacUM @CoachJim4UM @CoachNua for recruiting me

Dang.

That’s fine, but he shouldn’t go chasing clout after the fact claiming he knew all this stuff he was unwilling to say.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:53 AM ^
Exactly.
Dude has a dream job, he's not gonna step on anyone's toes as it pertains to the athletic department.
He is a people pleaser, he will kiss the ass of those who have more or equal access/knowledge to U of M sports, but will try and flex with those who don't.
October 7th, 2021 at 12:22 PM ^
Dream job? Joking right?
October 7th, 2021 at 12:44 PM ^
There is a stark difference between 'unwilling', and 'not able to, in order to maintain my sources'. I get that it may not matter to us, but to a guy that makes his living in a realm where sources are crucial, I think Sam is just fine. Especially when it comes to a kid not even on the roster yet. If the kid was getting processed, it would be a pretty awful look for the program, to have an 'insider' breaking the news that a recruit was getting processed.
October 7th, 2021 at 12:50 PM ^
Again, he didn’t have to say anything. The only reason to say anything in that scenario is try to increase your perception of being an insider to the masses without actually providing tango able inside information. It’s purely for clout.
October 7th, 2021 at 3:18 PM ^
You are either an idiot or are trashing Webb without even reading what he said. Someone asked him if it was a surprise and he responded to the question. He was not "chasing clout".

Double Post
October 7th, 2021 at 10:30 AM ^
I thought this guy was all-in, 100% go blue. Seems strange. One of the last guys I thought would de decommit.
October 7th, 2021 at 10:32 AM ^
They are always 100% when they commit and then 100% not committed when they decommit.
October 7th, 2021 at 10:38 AM ^
But, nonetheless, "respect my decision."
October 7th, 2021 at 11:03 AM ^
reminds me of an old girlfriend..... i was all in, 100%, often. then i found out that someone else was also. I too decommitted and opened up my recruitment.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:40 AM ^
But you still went back for a couple of unofficial visits, right?
October 7th, 2021 at 2:33 PM ^
she was hosting so many visitors, I lost interest
October 7th, 2021 at 12:16 PM ^
so were you 'processed' or did you get a better offer...?
October 7th, 2021 at 10:44 AM ^
The recruiting cycle is weird…teams been playing lights out and seems not much positive news the past few weeks. I know they had the DT commits but losing Eugenio leaves a big hole at edge in the class. What’s the take on this one?
October 7th, 2021 at 11:12 AM ^
1. Probably takes more than beating a 1-2 Wisky team, a terrible Wash team, and Rutgers to get noticed.
2. Beat MSU OSU and PSU and people will be intrigued.
3. Do #2 a few times in a row, and we'll be recruiting at a new level.
I'm not complaining about the results, but to expect recruits to think... ah ha! Michigan is a perennial top 10 team because we beat the softest part of the schedule isn't realistic. OSU lost and is still ahead of us. There's a road back to relevancy and if we are on it, we're just getting started.

Why can’t I just enjoy the ride without someone always bringing the negative vibes?
October 7th, 2021 at 2:20 PM ^
It wouldn't be MGoBlog if we fans didn't think everything is bad.
I mean, people forget this but there were fans loudly claiming they wanted to fire John Beilein even after they went to the national title game, and there will be people calling for Howard's head the minute the team has a down year. It's the nature of the fanbase.
October 7th, 2021 at 12:15 PM ^
tesla,
guessing you need to go back to the garage and re-charge. we are ranked in the top 10, play on national TV regularly, have a fairly highly ranked recruiting class despite this and, candidly, are looking pretty solid to get to 7-0. we might not be 'bama or ohio, but come on, there aren't many schools that wouldn't change their level of 'relevancy' for ours in a heart beat. very few.
October 8th, 2021 at 7:41 AM ^
Ok, clearly I was misinterpreted. I was just responding to the comment about why after winning our first five games, we didn't have a flood of amazing recruiting news. Recruiting is about relationships and that takes time. And I'm ecstatic that we're 5-0 and the games are enjoyable to watch, not a slog. I ONLY bright up the other points to say that recruiting doesn't just improve because you start 5-0 with all your goals ahead of you.
October 7th, 2021 at 1:24 PM ^
Guy committed in July when there was only hope, and not much of it, and you think he decommitted we have a weak schedule or haven't beaten OSU?
October 7th, 2021 at 2:34 PM ^
he committed prior to us starting the season 5-0....
so there's that.
October 7th, 2021 at 10:53 AM ^
I'd be curious to know more context as to what lead to the change of heart. It's hard to think our success, coaches, or development potential at his position would be reasons.
October 7th, 2021 at 10:54 AM ^
This is super weird to me, he seemed like he was all in with the team? I wonder what is going on here
October 7th, 2021 at 10:57 AM ^
On the surface this seems bad, but i think it's the opposite and that higher rates guys on our board are coming...Sounds to me he is playing chicken with the Josephs decision, and is being prideful, as if, ok, I'm gonna decommit before i get slow played if I think he's coming. Dax hill did same thing when he thought a coach was leaving. And if hes not I'll re commit.
I think we might begin to see a few more de commits and upticks in recruits that are coming. This staff is crushing it on the trail.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:10 AM ^
Man I would love to know what you are seeing that makes it seem like Michigan is crushing it on the recruiting trail
October 7th, 2021 at 11:12 AM ^
I'm pretty sure Dax only did because nic satan fed him a huge bowl of shit..... when he realized it wasn't cornflakes, he righted his wrong and re-committed, reversing his decommitment.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:14 AM ^
Saban is an a-hole, but a bowl of shit? Cmon... come play for the CFB title every year and go as a top 20 pick. Sounds HORRIBLE.
October 7th, 2021 at 12:53 PM ^
a bowl of shit about coaching changes at Michigan, that didn't happen.
October 8th, 2021 at 9:03 AM ^
i guess. aren't we cherrypicking USC guys right now (we hope) because they have no coach? im sure we're telling domani that its gona be shit show. and if we're not.. WHY NOT!?
October 7th, 2021 at 11:23 AM ^
Oh I hope you're right. Every cycle there's a decommit that really sucks, so hopefully, this is the one. From what I've seen, Tayshawn Trent might have academic issues, so we might not be getting him either.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:33 AM ^
Working on it, but it is going to be tough.
October 7th, 2021 at 12:15 PM ^
Seems like a down year to me, but there are. A couple months left. If Domani Jackson and Josh Conerly comity, I will Chang my mind
October 7th, 2021 at 11:14 AM ^
There's usually something weird when a player who seems fully committed jumps off the bandwagon. Mario was not a waffler; by all previous accounts he seemed extremely excited to be part of the class. Some reasons these things happen:
- Player sours on coach/coaches through a bad experience (related to him or someone else)
- Player sours on school/program (does not seem likely based on this season)
- Player has trouble with grades
- Player has off-field issue(s)
- Coach/coaches sour on player's on-field performance
These may seem obvious, but they are far from the Aubrey Solomon/Dax Hill/Najee Harris roller coasters where an elite player seems genuinely unsure about where they want to go.
I hope Mario and his family are okay and wish him the best, wherever he lands.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:51 AM ^
Or...the NIL is taken more seriously somewhere else.
October 7th, 2021 at 2:59 PM ^
Grades, sure but we all know that UM football standards are not the usual UM admissions standards. They’re the same as everyone else in the big ten.
if they weren’t, see Northwestern.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:15 AM ^
I kind of get the feeling that the Kenneth Grant commitment (in combination with Mason Graham) took the spot away from his teammate Tawfiq Thomas and it didn't sit well with him. I remember Thomas was all set to commit to Michigan and then was probably told by the staff to hold off.
Hopefully this doesn't affect the Deone Walker recruitment, whom I seem to remember Eugenio was also close with.
October 7th, 2021 at 12:16 PM ^
Kenneth Grant, Tawfiq Thomas and Deon Walker are all 350 pound plus. That is some major beef. I remember when Michigan as the first school to have an O-line [all over / average?] 300 pounds plus. How have people gotten so big in such a short period of time? Good luck running through an athletic 1700 pound D-line....
October 7th, 2021 at 11:49 AM ^
They ain't signed until they're signed. No, 17/18 young man's decision is going to ruin my Friday.
Good luck to him.
October 7th, 2021 at 12:58 PM ^
Wish him luck. I assume we're going to see a lot more guys across the country move around as guys play more games and coaches/recruits see how their classes shake out.
October 7th, 2021 at 1:30 PM ^
none of us know why this happened.
M could be they have better options and downgraded him, Could be he has a better offer closer to home, could have family issues that are changing his mind.
good luck to him unless he plays against Michigan
October 7th, 2021 at 1:51 PM ^
HIs offer list is interesting for a 4 star...
Best of luck to him!
October 7th, 2021 at 8:39 PM ^
This really just proves how pathetic the state of our current recruiting is: we now have low, marginal four star players who don’t want to come here.
