"11.3.2.1.1…

Maybe.

"11.3.2.1.1 Noninstitutional Income and Benefits Disclosure. A full-time or part-time athletics department staff member who receives athletically related income or benefits from a source outside the institution... must report such earnings to the president or chancellor on an annual basis; however, the athletics staff member is not required to report any cash or cash equivalent (as opposed to tangible items) if the total amount received is $600 or less."

Note that the 11.3.2.1.1 reporting requirement is intended to clarify income earned from "bona fide outside employment" which I would doubt this would apply. Did he report this income to the president?

"11.3.2.2 Supplemental Pay. An outside source is prohibited from paying or regularly supplementing an athletics department staff member's annual salary and from arranging to supplement that salary for an unspecified achievement."

This seems like the more likely violation. I'd guess receiving money from a booster could be seen as supplementing their salary.

Right. This is about as…

Right. This is about as bulletin material worthy as what Cade said about OSUs defense. Reaching badly here. I don’t think the team will need any extra motivation to win a conference championship.

He’s going from an analyst…

He’s going from an analyst position to a position coach. Makes 100% sense if he wants to move up in the coaching world.

How significant was Brad…

How significant was Brad Hawkins' injury?

“I don’t think it’s gonna be. I know what happened, and I don’t think it’s significant. But, I don’t know for sure.”

I'd guess he's probable. My initial concern would have been concussion, but then he wouldn't have come back out for workouts if that were the case.

Nitpicking, but TJ Guy did…

Nitpicking, but TJ Guy did see the field some at DE against Northern Illinois.

He did not make the trip and…

He did not make the trip and Harbaugh suggested that it was injury related.

Why didn't Taylor Upshaw travel?

“He’s working through something.”

Fortunately, while Stroud…

Fortunately, while Stroud can move a bit, he doesn't run often. It would be on brand, of course, for him to actually run the ball against Michigan, but he has not shown the desire to do so often this year. And, moreso than other years, I think the last thing OSU can afford is for Stroud to take a lot of hits and go out of the game. McCord may be good eventually and had a good game against the 2-9 Akron Zips, but he has NOT looked like he's ready for primetime. Of course, me saying that means Stroud will run like Fields and/or McCord will come in and look like Haskins.

I agree, there's no other…

I agree, there's no other Ojabo on the roster. The closest approximation from an athleticism standpoint is probably Kechaun Bennett, but I doubt he'd be ready to unleash next season and is a step or 2 below athletically anyway. Current commit Kevonte Henry is probably in the same mold as Bennett looking to the future.

Now, if we're only talking potential breakout pass rushers, maybe Harrell, McGregor, or the forgotten man, Gabe Newburg (depending on what his injury is).

If he indeed visits for the…

If he indeed visits for the OSU game as scheduled, I’d say anything he’s said previously about Michigan is less relevant than his experience in that weekend. If Michigan were 100% out, I don’t see why he would bother. It’s definitely Alabama today and could end up staying that way.  Luckily he doesn’t seem like he’s deciding today.

Wiltfong ends up correct a…

Wiltfong ends up correct a lot, but he has self admitted that he puts in picks more based on a heat check of the current feeling. If Jackson were committing tomorrow, it’d be pretty much over. Assuming a final commitment will extend until after the season, there’s quite a bit of time for him to change his pick, as he frequently does.

Everything depends on the…

Everything depends on the buyout amount right? Him being offered the LSU job is no guarantee, especially if they’re going to wait until January and/or chase other big fish like Riley first. With any luck, this is just posturing to get LSU to hurry up their process to avoid a large buyout, but if it’s not he’d be a fool to not take the money on the “chance” that LSU could come calling months from now.

Am I reading that correctly…

Am I reading that correctly that someone has Michigan and Michigan State unranked?

Resisting the urge to…

Resisting the urge to nominate Mike Barrett for the FB job, would a goalline set with Haskins acting as the FB with Corum behind him be feasible? I know Haskins isn't necessarily an ideal FB and he won't have his normal momentum on dive plays, but feels like there could be a lot of good things you could do out of a package like that.

I kind of getting the…

I kind of get the feeling that the Kenneth Grant commitment (in combination with Mason Graham) took the spot away from his teammate Tawfiq Thomas and it didn't sit well with him. I remember Thomas was all set to commit to Michigan and then was probably told by the staff to hold off.

Hopefully this doesn't affect the Deone Walker recruitment, whom I seem to remember Eugenio was also close with.

Just nitpicking really, but…

Just nitpicking really, but Edwards has appeared in all 5 games. I remember PFF didn't credit him with a snap against Washington, but he was definitely in for at least 1 snap and is also credited on Michigan's published participation chart.

I do agree that it was a bit…

I do agree that it was a bit surprising that we didn't see a little bit more of Edwards, but he didn't get zero snaps. Maybe if we were seeing more success on passes on the flats he'd have been more involved. I do wonder if they'll start utilizing him more as a WR (if he can do some blocking out there) who can motion to a RB or vice versa at some point.

Newburg was announced as…

Newburg was announced as being out with an injury before the game last week. I know he was in street clothes. I don't think I've seen anywhere what exactly is the nature of his injury though.

Moore has been playing…

Moore has been playing mostly nickel/SS and Paige has been playing FS. I'm more worried (or excited?) that Moore has passed the guys ahead of him as backup Nickel. Hopefully says more about Moore than the guys he passed.

I wouldn't be among the…

I wouldn't be among the people booing him, but I do get it to some degree. He was a fairly public face of Michigan on social media who saw a decent amount of playing time. So I'm sure a lot of people were hurt that he left... not to mention going to another P5 team that was also on Michigan's schedule. So to that extent, he did it to himself. I'll be curious what the reaction is to Zach Carpenter, when Indiana comes to town (I'm sure VanSumeren will be booed, but not even sure he'll play).

I do wonder though, if it's telling that he didn't have much of a warm welcome from his former teammates. It seemed the defense was extra excited to lay a hit on him. I was trying to watch if I caught him on field after the game meeting up with any of his former teammates, but didn't see anything. Whether any of that means anything, I don't know. I guess I just expected some friendly interactions at some point between former teammates.

Ron Bellamy is from…

Ron Bellamy is from Louisiana and is the one with the connections down there. Morgan's connections are primarily on the west coast at this point. So, he's more influential on guys like Conerly, but for the guys mentioned, it would be largely due to Bellamy.

If Michigan wins, we will…

If Michigan wins, we will all agree that this was not a big game. If Michigan loses, we will all agree that Harbaugh can't win the big game.

There are no restrictions on…

There are no restrictions on Bellamy since he was hired as an on-field coach. If he were hired to an off-field role, then the NCAA would impose restrictions on player eligibility. So, it would have prevented Partridge and Bush from being hired initially (as they were both hired originally for off-field positions).

FWIW, BJM was responsible…

FWIW, BJM was responsible for Viper and Sam, while Don Brown was responsible for the Mike and Will, so you'd have a difficult time putting any of that on him.

247 only added the…

247 only added the confidence level part maybe 6 months ago. Any crystal balls before 6 months ago automatically show up as 10's. He just decommitted from FSU a week ago, so it's not too likely that he will recommit to them here.

I think, at least part of…

I think, at least part of the reason for this is, that the New Jersey prep schools steal a lot of the NY football talent. I know Don Bosco does, specifically, due to their proximity to the NY border, but I'd think others as well.

Just curious now, are you…

Just curious now, are you arguing that he's actually fast and that's a fast time (and he probably will have a Top 10ish OL time in the combine), or are you arguing that the time is indeed likely fake (3 out of 5 anyway)?

Is a 5.49 40-time really…

Is a 5.49 40-time really that fast for an OL? I guess I don't know high school numbers, but for the NFL combine that time would have only beaten 4 out of the 40 OL that ran. That doesn't seem like a pretty fast number to me.

Line 7 on the 2018 Form 1040…

Line 7 on the 2018 Form 1040 (is 8b on the 2019 form).

I mean, he had no…

I mean, he had no eligibility left outside of suing for the current redshirt rule to be retroactive. The timeline of such a lawsuit would seem to just prove to be a distraction and mess with the timeline of the draft process, which would be a huge risk if it were denied. So, I'm not sure why anyone would think that someone that has used up all their eligibility was pushed out.

2022 QB target. High 4 star.

He did unofficially visit this summer, as well as visiting LSU, Clemson, Alabama, and Oklahoma (and has an offer from all but Clemson).

Indiana and Kentucky is…

Indiana and Kentucky is basically a college basketball rivalry. They used to play every year in a non-conference game, and since they're both blue blood programs, for awhile they were highly ranked, at least through the 70s and 80s, not as much on Indiana's part in recent history.

Yes, started for 4 years…

Yes, started for 4 years. And apparently on review each season, they still thought he was bad. *shrug* Maybe he just fit better at guard?

No that was Simon Stepaniak.

No that was Simon Stepaniak.

If Fee-Fi-Foe-Film is the…

If Fee-Fi-Foe-Film has the correct analysis, hopefully they don't look too closely. Was given the cyan circle in 2019, 2018, and 2016. Somehow he didn't get the circle, in 2017.

It was reported as a grad…

It was reported as a grad transfer with 2 years of eligibility, so it would seem that he did.

As a state and local income…

As a state and local tax nerd, his effective tax rate in New Jersey for income would actually be 7.08%. He would only pay 8.97% on his income that exceeds $500,000.

So on $800,000, he'd pay about $22,000 more tax in New Jersey than Michigan. The property tax rate though would be a different story.

Ojabo would seem to have a…

Ojabo would seem to have a similar mix of length and athleticism. But he was able to put on weight easier so probably is more a true DE.

Hawkins did not redshirt. He…

Hawkins did not redshirt. He was a full time special team player in 2017, the third safety in 2018, and obviously the starter in 2019.

I agree, but Michigan bumped…

I agree, but Michigan bumped Partridge around $175k to keep him last year. So yeah, I don’t see why they couldn’t do the same here if they want him to stay.

Rutgers' DC only made $100k…

Rutgers' DC only made $100k more than Campanile this past season (base salary, not including bonuses). Partridge probably made more than the Rutgers' DC when you consider bonuses. If Campanile leaves, it shouldn't be about money.

If he flames out as a 5th…

If he flames out as a 5th round pick in 4 years he’ll use his 3 million dollars earned to pay for a years tuition I’d guess. But I doubt he drops that far and not sure why you’re even making this argument. His decision has been made, may as well support him for his efforts at Michigan.

While this is true,…

While this is true, offensive linemen usually aren't ready as redshirt or true freshmen. I think it will be figured out at some point in the season, this just increases the growing pains that would already have been had with the transition. But who knows, trust in Warriner.

My thoughts too. Maybe we'll…

My thoughts too. Maybe we'll take a page out of OSU's book and pursue a grad transfer from within the conference (come on down Terrance Davis). Not that I don't have faith in the recruits on the OL, but may be a season too soon for a lot of them to hold up, so a one season stop-gap would make sense.

I mean, let's temper…

I mean, let's temper expectation and say he'll only be here 4 years (staying for 3 years is probably a mistake unless you're a 1st round level talent). But I do agree (and the coaches do too), that if a player can help the team now, he should play. A redshirt can always be reclaimed later, especially under the current redshirt rules (see Josh Ross and Jaylen Kelly-Powell this year).

There were 100 non…

There were 100 non-Charbonnet/Haskins carries from RBs last year. Whether they're in garbage time doesn't seem particularly relevant to me. He'll either earn a greater opportunity from the time he does get, or he won't. A lot of freshman at offensive skill positions have made an impact under Harbaugh over his years at Michigan. I could probably name at least one guy a season, with varying amount of success with his opportunities. I don't see any reason Corum couldn't be the next guy if he's ready.

And now he has a chance to…

And now he has a chance to learn on the job and make mistakes where we won't want him fired by mid-season (see Gattis, Josh). Just like Alabama couldn't/wouldn't take a chance on Gattis to be a first time OC, Michigan can't/won't take a chance on Partridge being a 1st time DC. I'm not sure making him a co-DC to Brown would work (or be necessarily desirable). Let him learn and innovate in the SEC for a couple seasons, and then maybe he'll be ready to return.

That's a good idea, but…

That's a good idea, but unfortunately Peppers was already on campus for a year before Partridge was hired. Definitely need to get a coach with at least two or more this time.

I had hoped that Ben…

I had hoped that Ben McDaniels would have filled that role, being from Ohio and whose dad is a high school coaching legend in the Cleveland area. I don't know much about how Michigan organizes recruiting, but it doesn't seem like they have him doing much other than focusing on QBs, which seems like a bit of a waste of resources to me personally.

Taggart is now FAU's head…

Taggart is now FAU's head coach.

This, to me, is a lot like…

This, to me, is a lot like getting an undergrad from university and a graduate from another. Sometimes, there's value in being around different systems and ideas, so as to not get locked into your biases. He gets to learn on the job as a DC in the SEC (and maybe learn some tricks of the trade wink wink). A few years from now, who knows, maybe he's our next DC, with his own style and not shoe-horned into being Don Brown 2.0 (as he probably would be if he stayed on as Co-DC or whatever). Or, I don't know, maybe he's our next head coach if things go great there? He's been at Michigan long enough to be a "Michigan man" by now right? Chris Partridge 2025.
