Love the Infinite Jest reference. On page 356 myself. Love the intellegence on display on this blog pretty much daily. I log my hours spent reading here as professional development.
Every trip home from Albany, NY to Evansville, IN, I wear my hooded M Football sweatshirt and make sure to stop in Columbus for lunch or dinner. Gotten a lot of funny looks, but no verbal abuse (yet).
There may be info/posts I haven't seen, but has anyone considered that Jr. might especially not want to come to Michigan now that his dad might be coaching here? Maybe this in fact hurts us in his eyes? Nothing says this will be a Coach Carter situation, though that's what I'm rooting for.
I'm not assuming he will, and obviously hoping he doesn't, but are transfers coming off a red-shirt able to play elsewhere immediately? Just looking for info.
Got it, I do appreciate the insight. Like I mentioned, I don't have the credentials to post authoritatively regarding many things, such as the military. That doesn't stop most people on internet blogs, perhaps it should (case in point?).
I think I was aiming at the idea that individualism is considered detrimental to many military operations (based on what I've read, not personal experience). The opposite of individualism would be a corporal ethic, brought about through indoctrination. Indoctrinating the many to think, move, act, and trust as one, or parts of one body. A football team, an athletic department, could fall under that category.
I think I'm trying to clarify what I was thinking, not being argumenative.
While I've never played collegiate sports (outside of intra-mural ultimate frisbee, which my team won 3 years in a row) it seems as though this is a bit like the military (though I've never served there either, though I respect those that have).
You trust your leader (Hoke) implicitly, including those above him (Brandon), and in Dez's case probably those that you didn't "serve" under but still hold the office you respect. Indoctrination is fundamental to the military throughout history. And I would guess that if you're in the military and "bought in", you would assume that anyone who hasn't served has no idea what they're talking about when they weigh in on the matter (muggles). I suppose I don't mean that to be universal, surely some former military would disagree, as would some former players. Indoctrination can lead to blindness, ex. Nazis, ex. DB, but that too is not universal.
I'm drinking Imperial Stouts, some from Norway, and Yeti from great divide. Trying to pick out what characteristics I like for my home brew I'll make during the Ohio State game, to be drunk only when we play OSU basketball and football. Ages for years ideally.
OT, not meaning to hijack a thread but I can't start my own... Saw this and thought it was not just a coincidence that it happened during a "Branding" class. Dave Brandon could have used a page out of this playbook. Too late now hopefully.

Can you actually buy those somewhere? Searching, searching, searching...

Must be where Dave Brandon got his theory of branding from.
That's one of the sexiest articles I've ever read. Not sure it will do any good (hopefully), but it sure felt good reading it.

What time is the game? Is it going to be on BTN?

Second only to a win on Saturday, getting 100 MgoBlog points would make my weekend complete. Posbang please. Over and over again.
Thanks, one word talked me off the ledge.

Could be a blue law that makes allowance for if someone under 21 is pulled over on their way home from church/ receiving the Eucharist.

Feel free to disagree, just my 2 cents. Go Blue.
Any chance at a transcript of the presser for those of us who didn't see it live? I'd like to read it everyday for some time to come.

A second pos"bang" on the same day as my first... hope I can handle it.
Your avatar fills me with as much joy as 27 upvotes. Just wanted to thank you.
This is my first posbang... be gentle please.

Also high ABV, which will be perfect win or lose.

Going back to what the Ohio blogger wrote...
Do we think Luke Fickell will be back after a 1 point win against us?
Maybe, but probably shouldn't.
