What's going on with IU hoops?

Submitted by Mercury Hayes on

Indiana suspended Troy Williams and Stanford Robinson today over failed drug tests. This comes just days after Devin Davis jumped in front of Emmit Holt's car. Holt and Davis were drunk. All four players got four game suspensions, even though Devin Davis is in the hospital. Interesting, lenient punishments.

Will be an interesting story to follow as Indiana is already thin at all positions as Noah Vonleh (NBA), and Will Sheehy (graduated) are gone. Sheehy and Vonleh were second and third in minutes played for the Hoosiers last year behind Yogi Ferrel. Robinson and WIlliams were fourth and seventh in minutes played.

Jeremy Hollowell, who was fifth in minutes played last year, transfered to Georgia State. Luke Fischer who played 10 min per game last year, transfered to Marquette. Austin Etherington who also played more than 10 min per game, transfered to Butler.

So to recap, Indiana lost 5 of their top 11 this offseason. And another three of their top 11 are suspended the first four games.

Indiana plays  MSVSU, Texas Southern, SMU and Lamar to open the season. SMU looks like a gauranteed loss. I wonder if Yogi Ferrell, Hanner Mosquera-Perea and a bunch of freshman and walk ons can beat any of the other teams?

I don't think Holt was drunk given his BAC was .025 or .005 over the w/e the law is called that's lesser than .08. Either way he wasn't wasted as people have jumped to conclusions over..

Very unfortunate..

Crazy how Crean went from having the top recruiting classes and Sweet 16s (albeit underperforming given the level of talent he had 2 years ago) to this...

That law is quite strange. The limit is 0.02 if you're 21, but if you had any alcohol in your system at that age, wouldn't you still be illegally under the influence/in possession?

Don't know Indiana law that well, but many states are different from Michigan in that your body is not a container...meaning you are allowed to be drunk if you're under 21, you just aren't allowed to be in the possession of alcohol.

In Michigan and some other states, body = container meaning being drunk IS being in possession of alcohol.

I'm as big an IU bball fan (IU alum and from Indianapolis) as I am a Michigan football fan (season tix since '92 when I was 7). My college sports fandom has been an exercise in futility for the better part of a decade. I thought both my schools were on their way back to elite status just 3 short years ago. I need UM to get Jim Harbaugh to at least make the fall part of my year bearable again.

While the kid obviosly shouldn't have been drinking since he is a minor, .025 is hardly drunk.  I think you're talking about 1 beer here.  Clearly that isn't enough alcohol to make him accidentally drive over his teammate.  If he had been 21 I don't think this would even be considered an issue.

Since I'm not one to get all sanctimonious and pretend college kids under 21 don't actually drink alcohol, I think we should just call this what it is, an incredibly unfortunate accident.  I highly doubt the one or so beers had anything to do with it.

For the driver maybe. I wonder how much Devin Davis had to drink though.  Now there are reports that he had been drinking and is the one at fault for the accident by jumping in front of the jeep (that belonged to one of the female passengers).

Are those hair plugs? His haircut is awful and he appears to have one of those non-moving hairlines. It'd be a shame to pay thousands of dollars to look like THAT.
