Imma laugh when Minnesota hires Michigan's HC, then Michigan hires Minnesota's HC.

I've never left the Gattis…

I've never left the Gattis bandwagon, but I'll be honest, I always viewed him as a better motivator and program-ambassador than X's and O's schematic designer. In that respect, I've long thought that Gattis is better as a position coach or a head coach than an OC.

I was really wrong about that. Dude designed some slick stuff this year. Seems like the chemistry among JG, JH, Weiss and Moore has been tremendous and it brought a crazy good run/pass balance to the team. So he can draw stuff up for sure.

That said, I still believe he is going to be fantastic head coach in the very near future, and if you told me he was going to assume the reins from Harbaugh in 2025 or something I wouldn't be mad.

Wouldn't be the craziest…

Wouldn't be the craziest thing to see Syracuse take a flier on Hart as HC (they may soon be in the market). Mike grew up in the area and was on staff with the Orange.

They'd have to know that he has ambitions in Ann Arbor, but it might be worth it; he won't get hired at Michigan unless he's had pretty good success there.

Agree with your list; it's…

Agree with your list; it's hard to imagine a simpler fix than Chaundee returning and Carr transferring in.

With a little bit of roster management (Jace giving back his scholarship? Nunez?) you could have a very nice rotation:

Carr/Frankie/Wade

Chaundee/Zeb/Kobe

Houstan/Barnes/Jace

Johns/Williams/Tschetter

Hunter/Diabate

Would still be nice to have an Austin Davis-type guy back there in case Diabate can play with Hunter. But that team has tons of length, great shooting, and a nice mix of experience and youth.

Would really like to see a…

Would really like to see a corner or two pop up. Hopeful about DGW and Seldon long term, but having McBurrows as the only corner to join the program this offseason - when the position was clearly a liability that led to on-field losses - isn't ideal.

That's the optimistic take;…

That's the optimistic take; I hope it turns out to be correct.

The other obvious possibility is that, apart from his own brother's coaching tree, there is nowhere left for Jim to look. Nobody else will come. The Ravens are the only distributor left who can provide Jim with product to bring to retail.

And that's, yeah, bad.

Hafley definitely needs a…

Hafley definitely needs a look; in many ways he's the yin to the Campbell yang. Hafley is going to aim for higher-ranked guys through recruiting, Campbell is an expert in player development. Hafley comes from big organizations, Campbell has worked his way up. Hafley, I'm guessing, will go out and assemble the best staff he can bring to Michigan. Campbell seems more likely to try to bring his present team over intact. Hafley is Juwan, Campbell is Beilein.

Both can work, but I think that Hafley is the higher risk/reward proposition. It all depends on the tolerance UM's AD has at this point in history.

The thing about Hafley, though...watch some videos of him - even his pressers after losses. He exudes something that is sorely missing from Harbaugh right now. Optimism, charisma, hunger - contagious passion and leadership. Campbell's "Five Star Culture" is building something similar... both are at marked contrast to what we see at Michigan.

I'd be happy with either guy.

Obviously Stroud is the sole QB option for 2020. Hope we can get him.

But if not, I wonder if there is any chance that JT Daniels would look around. Seems like he's blocked by Slovis at this point and that the Gattis offense could be a great fit for him. I believe he had a pretty good relationship with Harbaugh.

Here's an "unlikely to ever…

Here's an "unlikely to ever happen but what if?" thought experiment:

Would you rather have PSU keep Franklin, or have PSU lose Franklin and hire Josh Gattis for HC?

It's amazing to me that we…

It's amazing to me that we didn't learn our lesson from the Nussmeier experiment. You don't hire Bama's offensive personnel. They are born on third base and think they've hit a triple.

Each year they have a new OC and it's a piece of cake because they have 25 five stars in camp. That's not genius or savvy or anything. That's just not messing up.

I'd much rather have seen us bring in an OC that puts up points with a team of 2 stars.  Someone from Tulane or Iowa State or Yale or something like that.

I mean, there's a lot wrong…

I mean, there's a lot wrong. But I think we really need to have a grown-up conversation about the OL. After the long pass to Collins, Iowa looked like it was playing high safeties the rest of the way. That does take some things away in the passing game; but it should mean that an OL filled with all-conference upperclassmen should be able to get 6 yards a pop. Instead, we just burrowed for 3-4 yards a carry between the tackles.  You could actually see this against Rutgers last week... When the line needed to take control in the run game, it couldn't. I feel like Chris Evans could have been useful today, and that the jump cut would have opened some things up, but there is a ton of blame to be laid at Warriner's feet.

I felt certain the…

This was a horror show for…

This was a horror show for sure, but saying that “every other type of offense wrecks him” is crazy. Last year, we did exactly to Wisconsin what they just did to us. Same for MSU and Penn State in 2018.

The problem is more complex. Having a crater on the roster at DT made us have to play far lighter than we should have... Wisconsin’s OL was blowing us up even when it was Groshek and Shaw running. And say what you want (and should) about him being a Benedict Arnold, but Matty was a hell of a DL coach.

Also, Taylor might be a future NFL all-pro. There were some times he just regapped like a boss.

This was a terrible game by Brown...but I have more faith in him than Nua, etc. right now.

At this point, my brain has equivocated on Juwan so much that I'd straight-up offer the job to Nate Oats and hope for the Manny Diaz thing to happen. Knows the area, would keep (at least) Saddi, and seems to have tons of upside.

No goofy special rules. Just play additional ten minute quarters until a team wins. Coin toss before each one, one additional timeout given per ten-minute quarter.

Just play football, man.

That's crazy.  Michigan…

That's crazy.  Michigan hiring Yurcich would have been just as big a deal here. Probably more, given Yurcich has a much longer track record of coordinating offense.

I think the last one we got…

I think the last one we got from Alabama (indirectly) was McIlwain.

That's the thing about hiring Bama staff...they always look great with Bama, but how much of that is simply the raw talent advantage they start with?

Looks like a cool pickup and all, but I also like the Don Brown method of hiring guys who had success despite a talent deficit relative to their opponents.

Cale Gundy would be the guy…

Cale Gundy would be the guy I'd most like to see on the staff. Make him OC.

I do think it's time for Jay to take the next step elsewhere and would be happy to see Jim and Mike Hart make amends.

Michigan tends to hold…

Michigan tends to hold opponents to about 75% of their offensive average.

OSU gives up more than 100% of their opponents' offensive average.

41-30 Michigan.

I mean, if you could add…

I mean, if you could add Harrison and two of Crouch, DeLoach, Perry, and Karlaftis that would definitely rival 2016 in terms of potential impact.

On the Solid Verbal this…

On the Solid Verbal this week they also mentioned Dan Enos as a KU candidate.

I had just been thinking recently about this offensive explosion at Bama and wondered how much of it has been attributable to Enos. I know many around here weren't thrilled at Harbaugh hiring him, but it sure seems like maybe Coach knew what he was thinking when he tried to bring Enos in.
