Beilein had a rough stretch in there (mostly due to major injuries to Walton and LeVert). They missed the tournament at 16-16 finishing 9th in the conference in 2014-2015. I think most people let that slide.
The next year they had a down February and backed into the tournament at 8th in the conference. Barely survived against Tulsa and lost to ND in the first round. That was a let down. So there were some people being vocal then.
But this was absolutely not an every December thing.
I didn't watch enough of last year's disaster to know enough, but is Nimari Burnett better than Jones. I understand it isn't a given that Burnett is back.
Also Terrance Williams - he had played well in 2023 and 2022. Is there a chance we comes back to elevate the PF position?
There isn’t much in the portal for QBs anymore. And it is likely that someone on the roster is the best option among what’s available.
The spring portal could bring someone but then that person has missed spring ball and would have to be a sure fire signee. Otherwise it could be damaging to morale to have a late QB swap.
Portal will likely be used to shore up depth at CB/safety/WR and in the trenches.
One thing I forgot to add: Kenneth Grant reiterated that the team is cohesive and they want to stay together. Didn't sound like he or others are going to be swayed by external NIL.
So many epic moments between the Wings and Avs. I was a Detroit Tigers game the night the Wings scored something like 7 goals against the Avs in the playoffs. This was after the big fights in the 90s. Roy was showboating making a stop on a slap shot and held his glove up to rub it in and he dropped the puck and it went into the net. Everyone was watching the game on the Tigers jumbotron. The news crews were interviewing fans following the game on their portable radios.
Of course, Roy never ends up in Colorado unless he lets up those 9 goals when he was with Montreal. If memory serves, the coach was pissed at him and left him in. He then refused to play for them again.
His time at Michigan was rough at the end, but he is a good dude and just couldn't get it done. Would like to see him brought back to an event one day to get his applause as he deserves.
Yes, and the basketball issues from 1992 are the exact reason why they won't Wade into Will Wade territory.
I don't think this makes me in an ivory tower. I'm not the administration. I'm not saying I agree, or disagree. I am saying that you can talk about Bruce Pearl all day long - its not likely going to happen.
Valid point for sure. I guess if money is the main indicator, Michigan should keep Warde Manuel forever. Revenue has never been higher with TV deals and National Championship bump should only increase that.
Every time there is a coaching vacancy everyone on the internet throws out names that have no cultural fit at Michigan. These names include but are not limited to: Urban Meyer, Hugh Freeze, Lane Kiffin, Will Wade and Bruce Pearl.
I don't think any coach with an NCAA violation in the past will get serious consideration from the school.
This is why we need a "serious replies only" label. Someone makes a legit topic to help clean the board up and the first comment is something stupid. The real content gets buried.
Scott Drew at Baylor is interesting only because the Big 12 is not part of the Big Ten/SEC that could breakaway very soon. I know most the focus is on football, but this impacts hoops as well.
If Michigan was in contention, we would have sold that place out with our without students. It comes to down to having to put a quality product on the court.
Very hard to leave at this point given the school year is a few weeks in. Sure it is possible, but also would they improve draft stock by leaving? Probably not. These are champions that can continue to develop under the current coaching staff and be first round picks.
And there's a reason she's one of the most (if not the most) respected Michigan football writer around Shembechler Hall. I don't mean the one you like the most here, or the ones people like on Twitter (X).
The football program, and those in its orbit respect her.

This is revisionist history.

Just wait until the next thread on Kadyn Proctor being in the portal!
Starting to think T-Will could have a spot as our starting 4 again with a good surrounding cast. Something like
PG Tre Donaldson
SG Johnell Davis
SF Kevin Durant
PF Terrance Williams
C Vlad Goldin
What do you do?
You honor his commitment and his scholarship.
My wife: the closer to Ohio the better.
Me: no one has ever said that before.
I always thought Coach Cal was greasy but lately, I've started to change my tune.
He is very upfront in what he's trying to do. Get the best recruits and send them to the NBA after one year. And he does it well.
Unfortunately, that doesn't always mean winning. And we've seen coaches with future NBA stars get flustered (even in the big 10 with Howard and Izzo).
2015 I think. What was the team like then? A bit different.

I could see Michigan signing 6-8 role players.
In the 2022 tournament, Williams had 9 points and 3 rebounds in 14 minutes against Tennessee.
He had two massive put backs with under 4 minutes to go to help Michigan close.
We don't win without him.

George Washington. You know his teeth were made of wool.
Wow! You are almost as old as Igor Larionov was when he retired from the Wings.

Same goes for…
I agree.
Same goes for Brady Hoke.

This might actually be a detriment in some ways. If he has one year left, has to make it count and not rebuild.
On the other hand, Michigan gets him playing against higher-caliber talent each night and can help him with more connections in the NBA.
Really depends on how the coach views the situation.

I'm not sure if I'm being sarcastic or not.

Couldn't agree more.
Edwards is not a first rounder
This. Look at that consistency. Took medved's team and won 7 more games 25+ wins in 4 straight years. THIS GUY FUCKS.
Am I reading this correctly that he has never won an NCAA Tournament game?
I didn’t say to hire him. I said he should be considered. Also many of the data points you threw out are incorrect. But you do you.
Can't be easy to recruit Nebraska. With more resources and NIL, Hoiberg would have a higher ceiling at Michigan.

Kyle Smith has never been to an NCAA tournament.
I'm not staying up to watch this.

…
just like football season
Every week was a Harbaugh update "no one knows anything".
Cool, cool, why are you here?
Jon Bacon updates are always "no update here"
That's a bummer, but he will bounce back and either get a different HC gig or be a top defensive coach at a top P5 school.
In fact, I can think of one P5 school that needs to be better on defense next year to save the head coach's job (if HC even makes it that long)
yah its garbage on mobile
SMASH
"...I mean everyone kills people, murders people, steals from you, steals from me, whatever..."
I'm building my team for modern basketball with 4/5 out that can shoot and a coach that can get the most out of them. Here we go.
Center - Mo Wagner
Power Forward - Chris Webber
Small Forward - Glen Rice
Shooting Guard - Jalen Rose
Point Guard - Trey Burke
Coach - Jon Beilein
Bench:
Guard: Nik Stauskus
Guard: Rumneal Robinson
Guard: Tim Hardaway Jr.
Forward: Glen Robinson Jr.
Forward: Franz Wagner
Center: Juwan Howard
Center: Maurice Taylor
He…
Get rid of Juwan now.
He has anger issues. If this was an isolated incident then NBD, but he was on a zero tolerance policy after Wisconsin. This is too much.
The university has known about this for 3 months and did NOTHING.
Why is the school protecting a BAD coach?
This is the impact of having a bad team.
If Michigan was in contention, we would have sold that place out with our without students. It comes to down to having to put a quality product on the court.
Saban wants to cap player income?
This is exactly what the Supreme Court has decided against.
We don't need an old millionaire white man telling young kids how much they can make.
Let the market dictate what they can earn.
A bummer that Sabb didn't wait for the coaching staff to find him a full-time role on defense through some switching. But next man up.
Time to hit the portal back for a few dudes and reload for 2024.
According to Wiki, Jean-Mary is Michigan's LB coach, but only because its been that long since someone updated his wiki.
this is still somehow better than 90% of posts on this board.
We just won a Rose Bowl in OT and a subsequent national championship.
Maybe that doesn't happen with different rules.
On the fence about this. Seems old and out of touch with college players.
Seems to have lost his edge too.

I watched highlights from the 2021-2023 OSU games last night after the kids went to bed.
They used to…
Ole Woods.
They used to call him that because he laid the wood. And his name was Woods.
I heard Harbaugh was actually using Hoke's script, which was given to him by Lloyd Carr
