Thanks Dragonchild, I appreciate the insight.

Thanks Saludo, that is a great article.  I feel a little less dumb now.

Please allow me to show my…

Please allow me to show my ignorance with this question:

If a player is 6’1”, lightning fast and has the skills to cover a WR in press man coverage, what makes that player better suited to play the Safety position than Corner Back?

It seems that the most prolific coverage DB’s are all played at corner (at least most of the highest paid and most famous ones).  Why would someone like Deon Sanders or Darrelle Revis play at Corner, while Hill is a safety?

Is it simply size?  Does that mean those guys would have ideally played safety instead if they were a little taller or bigger?

I always thought that the DB’s that are better at coverage are more valuable as a Corner, and the second tier cover DB’s play Free Safety.  Obviously, not true in this case.

Thx, in advance for the input.

Ha, you beat my rant by 2 minutes and were much more concise doing so.

Bravo

Actually, it probably doesn…

Actually, it probably doesn't mean as much as everyone seems to think.

If you assume that OSU will beat MSU, then both PSU and MSU would have at least 2 Big 10 losses.

As such, Michigan can loose to either MSU or PSU, and still win the Big 10 championship.

In all likelihood Michigan HAS TO BEAT OSU to win the Big 10, but they can probably drop any other game and still make it.

I know, I know, rivalry and recruiting and all that, but if Michigan looses to MSU, runs the table, beats OSU and finishes 11-2 with Big 10 Championship Game and Rose Bowl victories, I think we would all think it was a great season.

I know everyone likes to over stress every game, but Michigan could still loose 1 more game and have a great season, providing that loss isn't to OSU.

Time to see some young guys get some valuable, non red-shirt burnin', time on the field.

This is where the new rules will allow us to see some glimpses of the future.

I've probably read over 30…

I've probably read over 30 articles / blog posts and over 100 comments all across the web over the last two days.  The above is the most interesting and well written commentary I have seen yet.

The topic of the systemic enabling of individuals is the most important issue in this case.  No system of oversight within a University should allow "trusted" adults to remain active and have continued access to students when their previous crimes / behavior could have easily been publicized and curtailed years earlier.

Well done!

Looking for 2 tickets for…

Looking for 2 tickets for the 2018 game at Notre Dame.

Willing to pay over face, as I understand the ticket value is high and I don't expect anyone to take a huge $ hit  just to help out a stranger.

That being said, I won't pay anywhere near the $400 asking price I saw for crap tickets on one site.

If possible, we VERY MUCH prefer to be in the UM section, though any seats will work.

Thanks for reading.

Guess I won't have to hear about how frightened chickens are anymore this week!

(And no, this is not making a joke about the seriousness of domestic violence or cover ups.  It's a joke about how blown out of proportion the media makes stupid insignificant remarks when they don't have any other legitimate content to discuss.)

The formula concept seemed…

The formula concept seemed pretty silly to me at first.  I would expect a lot of safeties, linebackers and most of the larger wide receivers to grade out as amazing running backs.

I guess though, if you only compare running backs who already are NFL running backs and thus have the pre-requisite RB skills, the scores may have some correlation to success.

Still, Barry Sanders wasn't a big back and certainly wasn't fast for the NFL, but I've never seen any running back that was harder to tackle.

As long as we are fast…

As long as we are fast forwarding, can we call it September 1st and make it game day?

Happy 4th week to all!

I believe it is because he…

I believe it is because he is based on Arnold, and Arnold wore glasses.

In season 1 we saw Ford work to help Bernard mimic the exact glasses cleaning process that Arnold would perform as he pondered his response to a question.

Also, Delores ran over 11,000 tests of Bernard to try to get him to be exactly like Arnold.

I think the Bernard at the end that did not wear his glasses, portrayed more of his own personalty, his Bernard-ness if you will, as opposed to just being an Arnold replica.

That's kind of what I…

That's kind of what I thought when reading the article.  I know Scholarship athletes get passed all the time by PWO's, but to not even be able to practice?  I think it would be rare.

Thanks to all for your insight!

Transferring athletes still…

Transferring athletes still have to sit out a year though, correct?  I am assuming so.

So basically, rule 1 just stops universities from limiting transfer options, while allowing conferences to continue to limit though.  That should be thrown away too.

Rule #2 is an excellent rule that will allow a lot of players that are good, but not NFL good, to get a 5th year of education and to have another year of playing their chosen sport.

Good job NCAA!  (Wait, did I really just type that?)

Reddit Post Just posted a chat about UM over/under 9 wins in the CFB subreddit. Please upvote and reply so I can raise my star rating from 1. Thx Edit - here’s the link https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/8m3n6n/michigan_over_under_9_game…
Thx I will begin to post / comment / likely get downvoted shortly.
Forgive me, but.... I know this probably gets answered every day, but how do I get Karma points in Reddit? I have 5 stars for my links and 3 stars for playing my 12 turns, but am stuck as a 1 star aggregate until I can move up my Karma or my Awards. Ohwhataworldwhata is my username on both Reddit and Discord. Thanks, in advance, for your help!
Nick Saban

If 100 football players each got paid $50,000 a year at Alabama and it all came out of Nick's pocket, he would still live in a free house, get all of his meals and other perks, get his endorsement deals and speaking fees, and would still make $40,000 PER WEEK ($2MM/year) from his salary.

There is so much money in CFB that the coaches and administrators are simply hoarding it, as there is nowhere else for it to go.

I understand that Nick being at Alabama is probably worth $30MM a year to the university, but that's because tickets cost a fortune and those elite players at Alabama who's bodies generate the product on the field get roughly the same compensation as those players at the University of Toledo.

I hope someone figures out a way to give a larger portion of this power 5 money to the players.  Also, the universities could cut down on seat licenses which only hurt their most loyal fans or maybe they could charge half price seats for kids under 12 to allow more working families to join the experience.

Let's get CFB (and all of sports) back to the public, rather than taking every penny we can from the consumer to give to the power structure who run the system.

Robin Hood out

I have a question

Does anyone know how teams get around giving valuble gifts like "Gold Pants" or championship rings to players?

Seriously, can you simply give a "Gold Brick" to every player for each and every win against a D1 team?

It's hyperbole of course, but it seems like an easy road some team down south would use to gain a recruitng advantage over their brethren.

I mean, even if it's limited to 1 gift a year, how about giving out a $10,000 gold chain everytime we beat on of our biggest rivals.  (Which is a tie between Rutgers and Illinois, of course).

Anyone know how these gifts are legal?

Good Guess

It is a reference to the holiday that the Bluth family invented on Arrested Development.

Can't wait to watch the re-cut!

Also, would have posted a AD based JPEG, but for the life of me I can't get it to attach.

If only the internet was run by Excel.....

Throw Kevin Grady

Throw Kevin Grady in on the RB dissapointment list.

Perfect

See this is the perfect kind of answer in my mind for over rated.

Great Coach, certainly a HOF coach, but nowhere near the best coach of all time.

If I rolled out an average or below average NBA lineup, there are a lot of other coaches I would choose to run that squad.

He was always kind of a primadonna himself.

He's #1

Everyone know's he's #1.

I may be picking at a nit here, but you can't be over rated if you're #1.

I understand your point about the God like conversations, but #99 is #1 all time, not over rated.

He's sitting there with Jordan and soon, TB16.

MLB HOF

You just hit a treasure trove here.  The MLB Hall of Fame is replete with compilers.

I'm not sure how "Rated" JG is.

He's likely overpaid, but that's how free agent QB's get paid.

I think most people would rate him near the middle of the league, which, IDK, sounds rightish.

Dude hasn't lost a game.

Deshaun Watson is WAY more hyped and higher rated with < 1/2 a year sample size.

I think JG is probably decent, just by the fact that Belichick reportedly wanted to keep him so badly.

Then again, no one knows shit about this kid yet, so you may be right.  :-)

I think Stafford is fine

I think he could get the job done with a good team around him.  Not many QB's winning playoff games with the Lion's roster.

I bet the dude would have looked amazing in Minnesota last year.

Irrationally Disliked Thread

That could be a great one.

Well

You are right, of course, about "let's wait and see".  That being said, half of sports talk is people yapping about how they think athletes, coaches or teams "will be".

While there's often too much hype on anything highly rated, I don't think it is a fair comparison to state that most fans had the same level of expectations for a mid level recruit who got benched at Houston vas they do for a top level prospect who had some success at an SEC school.

I mean, feel free to cut and paste "Remeber Kevin Grady" on every post about a highly touted RB from now until the end of time but.............

Better?

Better than smacking MSU by double digits twice, winning the Big 10 tournament, winning like 1,000 games in a row and and making the national championship game?

Probably not.  And if the season is better, it can't possibly be better by much (like 1 game better at the end).

I have reset my annual hopes to a Big 10 tournament win and Final 4 birth.

Dreaming of the repeat!

Even if...

It would obviously be great for the team if he returns to his old form or better.

But even if he can't reach that level, I hope he can at least get back on the field for a bit in mop up duty.

You've got to want to see that kind of heart and effort be rewarded.

Probably

I read that since LSU in 2000, every college football player that Saban has recruited that has played 4 years, has won a national championship.

(Even the ones he recruited to LSU before he left won a championship with Les Mailes).

Monday's win guaranteed that streak will continue at least through this years Alabama freshmen that will graduate in 2021.

It's just unreal how good that guy can recruit / coach / hire assistants.

Bingo

Yep, thank God.  Think how miserable it would be if OSU was having Alabama type success.

Ugh

If the kid doesn't go pro...

If this kid doesn't go pro, then this is probably the only time in his athletic life he has any power or leverage  to help out his family.

I know this kind of thing happens sometimes (even at UM), bu I'm suprised it doesn't happen all the time, given that so many of the top players have fathers who are coaches.

To Bastardize a Jerry Tarkanian Quote

The NCAA will probably be so mad at Louisville and Arizona that they'll give Cleveland State two more years of probation.

Lenient

Slap on the wrist.

I guess the NCAA noticed that Rutgers had put itself on a double secret 10 year bowl ban commencing a few years ago.

Not Sure

Seems his pluses are decision making, understanding defences and seeing the field.

Seems his struggle has been accuracy.

Calling quick hitting plays that require accuracy and less thniking seems more problematic.  I would rather see Wilton overshoot an WR he finds in an opening than sailing a quick hitter over a WR's head into the waiting arms of a clueless Saftey.

I have no idea how QB's improve accuracy, but I think Wilton could be a special QB if he can do that.

Amen

It drives me crazy when people bag on kids for sitting out a bowl game in an efffort to safguard what is potentially their entire family's one time chance at financial security.

Almost no one said anything when Herman left Houston for Texas before the bowl game.

Here is a guys who has already made a few million and had just signed a contract to secure generational wealth.  Everyone was fine with him leaving the players he recruited before the end of their season.  The kids to whom he preached team unity and loyality.  And he left before the bowl game only so he can get a few weeks head start in recruiting.

Man, the power structure in college sports (actually in this entie country) does a good job of getting people outraged when lesser opportunity or lower income individuals protect their personal interests, while deflecting worse behavior by the already powerful.

I hate the idea of unfettered college player free agency, but it is already available for the rich coaches.

YIKES

I hate all of the restrictions on college players, but this rule could destroy college sports and lead to offseason anarchy.

A)     If you think bagmen are a problem now, wait until an Auburn booster is “talking” to a starting sophomore DB at ND or UM and trying to convince him to move back closer to home. $$$

B)      When coaches leave, could a player go with him?  If so, coaching searches would become “who can you bring with you” searches.  What happens if a coach gets fired?  Think of someone like a Freshman J Peppers that commits to Hoke, then Hoke gets fired after 1 year.  These coaches have built relationships for years with these players.  If the coaches and players feel that the coaches have been wronged or fired unjustly, couldn’t a kid feel disloyal if he DIDN’T follow this fired coach?  A coach that he has seen as a father figure and whom the player feels is a victim?

I agree that the whole “amateur” college sports machine is morally ambiguous as it is.  But if Coach Cal can leave Kentucky and take 5 players with him, UNLV is always 6 months and a $20MM/year contract away from creating a top 5 program potentially worth hundreds of millions of dollars to them.

OSU

When looking objectivly, I'm honestly suprised Michigan can compete with OSU.

OSU is the only power 5 team in a top 5 talent state.  No one else in the country has that home state advantage.  (Maybe LSU some years).

In addition to that gift, they have a fan base that seemingly doesn't care much about acedemicly or behavioraly troubled players.  Oh by the way, they also have the second most accomplished active head coach in college football and, given the lack of big 10 recruting depth, they VASTLY out talent 9-10 teams on their schedule annually.

The new normal may be that Michigan needs to have an ELITE head coach to even compete with them.

Please don't ever leave JH!

ND

Or, to look at it another way, imagine what ND could do without a hot head jack ass coach and a few 10 win seasons strung together.

They are already annoyingly good at recruiting and will always be top competition to UM for the athletic smart recruit that doesn't mind playing in the midwest.

I believe

He was reffering to to Peppers as a trial balloon from a draft point of view.  His point is that while NFL teams claim to want versitile players, they failed to draft Peppers until later than his talent would suggest.

It was written pretty klunky, I agree.  That being said, I write poorly myself, so glass houses and all that.

Good Point

I guess the scroll is proof of marriage, though not sure how they will "prove" Jon is their kid.

To your point, Bran may know everything, but proving it is another.  Unless of course one of the nurses present at the birth steps forward.

I think Bran can convince any one individual that he's telling the truth.  All it took was a "Chaos is a ladder" and littlefinger knew, and a "She's on her list" for Aria to know.

Will be interesting to see what Danny thinks if this comes to light.  She has no claim for the throne as Jon's is stronger.  Maybe she ends up back in Essos banging Daairo Naharis as Jorah is forced to watch.
