You Know What's Making Everything Worse? Lack Of Opponent Watch

Submitted by Mr. Elbel on November 17th, 2023 at 12:44 PM

This stupid story broke during the bye week. Our next Opponent Watch was a urology-filled week 9 gem from Heiko. During that piece we learned that BMac would be taking a hiatus from writing the weekly Opponent Watch and we haven't had one since from him, Heiko, or anyone else. I totally understand that the writers for this here blog have been a little, uh, busy lately.

But man, I do miss BiSB. No offense to the likes of Brian, Seth, and Alex, let alone everyone covering basketball and hockey, but Opponent Watch is the greatest piece of writing on the entire internet and you cannot convince me otherwise. That its absence has coincided with signgate has just made everything worse. Not only do I have the gloom of waiting for the next barrel of bad news to drop, whether from the leaks or from our own AD, but I don't have this little slice of heaven to look forward to each week. I'm not pressing F5 all day today, and that's sad. Today should be a day to mash F5 and hope for a glimpse of The Rock with all those logos at the top of the page. I get giddy every time I see it hit the front page, and it adds to the gloom that it hasn't now for weeks.

I know life happens and people get busy or have other things that take over random football blog responsibilities. Hell, I took a second job and got too busy to do a final four in our gif tournament this summer (let alone try to find a new gif service to use for this season, RIP gfycat). I understand that life gets in the way of all the fun sometimes. But damnit, Bryan, we miss the hell out of you. We need you now, more than ever. Hope all is well man.

It's the best sense of humor and clever feature on the blog.  Didn't realize there was a hiatus going on.

The irony of the title of those column now tho....

You know what the team needs: Leadership. Detroit hasn't felt any real pride since George Bush went to Japan and vomited on their auto executives.

I didn't realize how much I counted on OW to be my weekly dose of levity heading into a weekend of football nonsense until it was gone. Keeping my fingers crossed that life calms down for BiSB soon and he can return to delighting us with his supreme wit and pithy observations.

Yeah, my bad. I’m not saying this is all my faulty, but I’m not NOT saying that either.

I meant to comment at the time, but my professional-looking alter ego I took a new gig, and the transition just isn’t allowing me to give Opponent Watch the level of stupid sincerity (or sincere stupidity?) it deserves.

Love y’all.

I suppose to create the best piece of writing the world has ever seen you have to be able to give it your all. Anything less and it wouldn't meet the high standard set. I hope things calm down in your transition, not just for OW's sake, but for your sake as well. Less stress = a healthier BMac. We're all rooting for you.
