You have $15 To Spend on an All John Beilein Team

You know the drill. You have $15 to spend on an All-Beilein team. I created this chart, which is debatable of course, but I think it is pretty close! If I missed someone feel free to roast me in the comments - after all this is MGoBlog.

(Note: players that transferred aren't included, neither are players who have basically never started)

$5 - Trey Burke, Tim Hardaway, Mo Wagner, Nik Stauskus

$4 -Mitch McGary, DJ Wilson, Caris LeVert,  Glenn Robinson, Iggy Brazdeikis

$3 - Charles Mathews, Derrick Walton, Xavier Simpson, Jon Teske, MAAR, Duncan Robinson

$2 - Jordan Morgan, Jordan Poole, Darius Morris, Isaiah Livers, Manny Harris,

$1 - Stu Douglass, Zak Novak, Spike Albrecht, DeShawn Simms

My selection would come down to either a combo of Burke/Wagner which would be an offensive juggernaut, or Burke and Teske which would again be a dominant combo on both ends of the court. It gets tough to fill out a roster and keep everyone in position, but this was my best shot.

Burke, MAAR, Mathews, Novak, Teske (undersized but balanced offense and defense)

Burke, Poole, Livers,  Wagner - and any $1 player.

Burke, Stauskus, Novak, Sims, Teske.

Mainly because I want to see what a team with Burke, Stauskus and Teske could do. This team has exceptional 3 pt shooting and Teske to prop up the defense.

Or trade Stauskus for LeVert and Sims for Livers to get: Burke, LeVert, Novak, Livers, Teske.

Levert, Walton, Livers, Mo, Douglas

Five out on offense, Three guys with handles. Win games by scoring 80+ per game.  Levert, Walton, and Livers give versatility on D. Imagine all of the open looks Levert and Walton can get for the other three guys (and themselves).

I feel like Levert at four dollars is the cheat code to win...

BTW, why is Manny Harris a $2 player, he was better at UM than most of the $3 and $4 players listed, I'd only put Burke and Wagner ahead of him, especially when you factor in defense.

Harris's average - 17ppg/6 reb/4 asst/41% fg

Hardaway - 14/4/2/43%

Stauskas - 14/3/2/47%

Walton - 12/4/4/40%

LeVert - 10/4/3/43%

Harris was a really good player for JB, early on, was crucial in getting JB established and probably the best fit for JB's system.  A lot of recency bias in these salaries.

Hmm. I think I will make MAAR my PG, have LaVert play the 2, have Duncan camp outside the arc at 3, Livers at 4 and Teske. I think that for $15 this group could wreak havoc at both ends of the court. Duncan and Isaiah would open the court for MAAR and Caris to attack. Defensively, this group could switch to their little hearts content with Teske patrolling the paint.

Caris, Walton, Teske, MAAR, Livers. Nobody is scoring on us. Very versatile on offense. Walton, Caris and MAAR all know how to play with and without the ball.

PG Trey Burke $5

SG Jordan Poole $2

F Zac Novak $1

F Isaiah Livers $2

C Mo Wagner $5

Loaded on offense with just enough defense. Deadly perimeter scoring from 3 1-5. Top talent with gritty role players. Could go a few different ways but this 5 spoke to me.

Gimme Walton, MAAR, Novak, Duncan Robinson, Wagner.  I really, really wanted to get Trey on this team senior year but Walton is such a steal at $3.  At other positions, a $2 drop off would be huge.  NCAA tournament McGary is also a steal at $4 but I went with Duncan for $3 because that let's me get Moe on this team.  You've got 5 guys who are lethal from deep and all guys were solid defenders by their last year in the program.  Also, plenty of shot creation but no problems with having too many guys that would dominate the ball.  With our current coaching staff I think this group would be the best offense on kenpom and a top-25 or so defense, but probably not top-5 like the last two years.

Second option that still costs $15: Walton, MAAR, Novak, Wilson, McGary.  You'd have a better D and still a great offense.

If money weren't a factor then gimme Trey, MAAR, Stauskas, Wilson, and Wagner.  So hard to pick only 5.  Walton, LeVert, Hardaway, Duncan Robinson, and McGary would be my next 5 backups.

Fun thread.  Thanks!

One more lineup I like is Trey ($5), Spike ($1), Novak ($1), Livers ($2), Wagner ($5).  You're actually a dollar under budget with that lineup so replacing Spike with Poole, Manny, or Stu Douglass would also be an option.

Trey ($5), MAAR ($3), Novak ($1), Livers ($2), Mitch ($4) is another great lineup.

After much thought and consideration here's my actual lineup I would choose:

Trey ($5), MAAR ($3), Irvin (free), Livers ($2), Wagner ($5).  With our coaching staff I think that group would be the #1 offense in the country and a top-5 defense.

The other tweak you could make here would be to replace Moe and Livers with Teske and DJ Wilson and the lineup becomes even more amazing on defense.

So I think Trey Burke is a MUST have. So I'll take Trey for $5 to start. Then I think McGary is my next pick. Everyone remembers Burke against KU, but McGary put up a 25-14 against an NBA big man to keep Michigan in the game. He's a perfect Pick N Roll partner with Burke, and was a terrific defender too.

Then I'd go Isaiah Livers. Not the most shiny pick, but he's a versatile weapon on offense and defense and can switch 2-5 and extend out past the 3 point line. He's a perfect glue guy on our team.

Then I go Duncan Robinson. Great 3 point shooter, and turned into a very stout defender and was able to use his size to his advantage to ensure he wasn't abused in the post. Great KickOut weapon if Burke or McGary get doubled. Not a sieve defensively.

With my last dollar, I want Sims, but honestly then we're running the risk of being too big, he was a great player, but he'd allow our lineup to be abused in small ball. If I can pick any unnamed Beilein player for the dollar, I'd go Aubrey Dawkins or Zak Irvin. But if Dawkins/Irvin aren't available, I'll take Stu. Good shooter, decent defender, hustle guy.

So I'll go

PG- Burke

SG-Douglass

Forwards- Duncan and Livers

Center- McGary.

now this is my kind of weekend entertainment:

1 derrick walton 3
2 maar 3
3 caris levert 4
4 isaiah livers 2
5 jon teske 3

that's a 5-out offense with good length/defense.

cut down the nets!

Burke (5) strong guard

Mathews (3) shut-down defense

Teske (3) powerful post presence

Morgan (2) key link, under-rated

Livers (2) anticipating a jump

Assuming you're getting everyone at the peak of their powers, you take Mo with the $5 because he has a skill set no one else on the list can replicate, and then after that, go with the best player at each level, which would be LeVert (strong argument to be made a $5), Walton (better than everyone at $4 except LeVert), Harris (virtual robbery at $2), and Sims (ditto).

Trey, Manny, Livers, Sims, Moe

Unless it’s December Poole. Then it’s him instead of Livers. Or $1 Irvin and give Manny an extra dollar.
