Agree. People bag on our safeties because they get burned from time to time. But I think it's almost impossible for a safety to hold up over the course of a game. Especially when that's the only area an offense can attack in this D and purposely scheme to get those matchups.

It would be interesting to compare the amount of WR coverage the safeties are asked to do in Brown's system vs. other defenses.

They should just roll with four CB's.

(EDIT: was supposed to be in response to HAIL-YEA's comment above)

This is why there are 17 CB's in this recruiting class.  And they are all ~6'2", 190lbs, can cover, can tackle, and aren't afraid to hit.  I think there is a conscious effort to recruit cover corners that can be converted into safeties for the very reasons you state - true safeties don't hold up against slants like corners do.  And Brown asks for a lot of run support from his corners, anyway.  I think we'll see a lot of corners running around out there in the next few years...

If the offense can be above average we are a title contender. At times the D would just choke teams out for 1/2 to 3/4 of a game and tire at the end. With some more time of possession and fewer 3 and outs, their performance may last the entire game.

What Outback Bowl? Was there even an Outback Bowl?

I don't even care now.

This is awesome.

As the OP said, let's get shit fixed on offense, because our defense is gonna be damn good once again.

Blue collar, relentless pursuit, and despite size he plays just as hard against the run as he does rushing the passer.  This is the type of guy teams are built around.  One of my favorite players on the team, if not my favorite.  Entertaining guy to watch in interviews.  Hope this pays off for him in his draft stock next year.

It’s amazing how much the loss Monday took the air out of the 2018 sails. At least for me.

If Michigan had taken care of business in the 2nd half, we would have a 9 win season (not great, but fine), and with Winovich back, the addition of Patterson, etc I would have been very optimistic for 2018. Only concerns would be the oline and the schedule.

However, after the loss I just can’t find a lot to be optimistic about. We’ll probably be better next year, but the schedule is so brutal, and I could see some position groups still being a disaster.

I’ll be going in with low expectations, mostly as a defense mechanism. Anything less than 4 losses sounds pretty good right now.

That cannot be understated, he was a Captain for a reason! He kept the alignment of the defense in control for most of the entire season and he will be missed! He was coaching up the youngsters on the field!

Yes, I will start my internal hype process again.  Again, we will have one of the top defenses in the country which will make this team fun to watch.  Yes, we all know there's an elephant in the room.  I will believe!  Until it's not time to believe anymore.  Let's CHASE the dream!

GO BLUE!!!

Best news of the week for me about the program.  Great to have such a high motor guy and great player coming back.  Chase will be a great leader with Rashan next year. Thank you and a big time yaaaayyyy !

Heck yeah! No one stops Chase and Rashan next year. If they hit the weights hard and get faster, it's lights out. Best duo in the nation easily. Gotta stay hungry. Hopefully they can just knock those tackles on their asses who are holding them every play.

He and Gary coming off the edge, especially liked the play where he timed the blitz from 7 yds out right down the middle, crushing that helpless rb on his way to the qb....

you da man Chase...

Defense will once again be filled with beasts. If we get this offense turned around we are going to be deadly! With Patterson coming...I’m getting more optimistic by the day. Go Blue!

we can raise $300,000 for Rashan to dye his hair and stay another year.  I hope Rashan remembers how he wished Chase to return when Aubrey Solomon says the same thing to Rashan next December.

So glad he will be back. Now wondering what he will do with his hair to motivate the team next fall. Blue man-bun? Maize corn-rows?  Won't matter. He'll get the job done.
