Win Will Cause Me To/Loss Will Cause Me To

Submitted by maizenblue92 on September 10th, 2021 at 12:13 PM

Since Brian/Seth does these for the weekly preview I thought it would be cool to see what y'all can come up with. So the task is simple what is your 'Win Will Cause Me To/Loss Will Cause Me To' for this week?

I'm thinking about doing this weekly with a wall of fame consisting of the best one from each week. I will lead off:

Win will cause me to: Begin talking myself into a 9-0 start going into Happy Valley

Loss will cause me to: Google all the details of Jim Harbaugh's buyout

Win will cause me to write off Washington as a bad team and continue to cautiously peek out from under my blankets at my optimism sitting over there in the corner where I left it.

Loss will cause me to call for whoever coaches Montana as our next head coach

You pretty much nailed it here. With Washington losing to Montana we should win especially at home. That said if we win big that may move the needle for me to begin believing that the program may have finally turned the corner... well depending on how we do at Wisconsin, but I can have hope for a few weeks!

Lose to Washington and it'll be "here we go again" and yes, the Montana coach should at least be considered because the death knell of the Harbaugh regime will be ringing.

Win will cause me to exhale and start entertaining the notion that this team may be halfway decent.

Loss will cause me to think, here we go again, when will it ever end?

Win will cause me to: do a shot of whiskey to celebrate.

Loss will cause me to: do a shot of whiskey to drown my sorrows.

Seriously though, I'm long past letting the outcome of any Michigan game (other than MSU or OSU) impact my mood for more than a few minutes at most.  Although I must confess after losses I do take a sick pleasure in mocking the inevitable shit posters here who create threads that say nothing more than "I'm mad we keep calling the bad plays - why dont we call the good plays more often and my other important thoughts on things."  Those posters cant possibly add that brilliance to one of the sticky threads - I mean who actually reads those?

My thoughts exactly.

A win will cause me to feel good for the rest of the night and look forward to the next game.  A loss will disappoint me but then I'll remember that life goes on and the record of any sports team should not hold sway over my emotions for more than a few hours.  Especially since those teams have no hold over my finances, my family, my career, my health, or anything else that truly matters.

Win will cause me to read every word written about Michigan Football for the next six days.

Loss will cause me to pout and stay off the internet for the next three days.

This is my answer for all games except the OSU and MSU game where loss keeps off the internet for at least a week. In addition, after a loss for an early game I am done watching football for the day. After a win I will watch every B1G game available.

A win will cause me to:  Prance about like a fancy lad singing "WE GOIN TO SIZZLER"

A loss will cause me to:  Apologize to the universe for whatever I did including this post followed by the consumption of whatever alcohol I have lying around that was not imbibed during the game.

I had an overnight layover at LAX a few years ago and saw a Sizzler near my hotel.

My inner 12 year old took over and I hurried over before they closed.  Then when I got my plate my inner adult took over and I was disgusted.  I’m just sitting there by myself in a nearly empty Sizzler thinking “all the options for dinner in Los Angeles tonight and I choose Sizzler”.  I’m still ashamed.

Good win would be an unalloyed pleasure and send me to bed happy.

Loss will mean I watch a lot less football this fall. And I don't think that Jim can afford to lose this one.

Win will cause me to: Lurk on Washington’s 247 board and revel in their misery.

Loss will cause me to: Avoid this board and all the miserable hot takes that will surely follow for at least a week.

Good win will cause me to blame 2020 on COVID.

Ugly, close win will cause me to think "here we go again."

Loss will cause me to hope we can get Matt Campbell.

That's fine to feel that way. I just don't quite understand it myself. I get that he has done very well at a traditional bottom-tier school and he has his team ranked in the top-10 right now.

But honestly, would anyone in this fanbase be excited if a hypothetical top-10 Michigan team only beat an FCS Northern Iowa by 6 points like ISU did last week? How would they feel if they followed it up with a loss to a lower-ranked Iowa team? How would Michigan fans feel if their top-25 team lost to Louisiana last year, like ISU did? Remember, this is the fanbase that was not impressed when we beat Middle Tennessee State 40-21 in 2019.

I should probably just get over this, but last year's bowl game highlighted by this Jomboy video has me so much less excited about the Matt Campbell possibility. He's obviously done well at Iowa State, but I feel like the complete misunderstanding of how targeting and offsides work that seem evident here are concerning.

Anything less than an emphatic win will cause me to think we're a mirage and are due for another bad season

An emphatic win will have be trying to imagine a scenario where we lose to OSU by less than 20 points

I've said over and over again that how this team loses is going to be extremely important. And possibly indicative of the future of the program. Of course, I expect them to drop a few here and there but to me, a lot is riding on if they're ugly, freakish nightmare losses or hard-fought, unlucky results.

Win will cause me to remain completely ambivalent about this team, since Washington just lost to an FCS team.

Loss will cause me to roll my eyes and exclaim, “…that’s what I get for having faith in you,” Grandpa Simpson-style.

Blowout win will cause me to pump my fist and think "on to Wisconsin!"

Close win will cause me to pump my fist and then shrug and wonder if we're good

Close loss will cause me to shrug and wonder if we can get better before Rutgers and Wisconsin

Blowout loss will cause me to wonder how the heck Harbaugh failed here and start googling coaches

Big win will cause me to think 10 wins is possible.  Marginal win will cause me to think 8-9 wins is likely.  Close loss will lead me to think 7 wins is likely.  Big loss will cause me to think 5-6 wins is likely.

If we win, my reaction will depend on what kind of win it was. A shaky nail-biter at home against a reeling team will make me very nervous going forward. A convincing win would make it clearer that Michigan is at least not among the many talented B1G teams lurching out of the gate this season

at home against a reeling team

OK, The L to Montana wasn't a good look. But is Washington "reeling"? Does one loss mean a team is spiraling toward oblivion!?

I liken it to M's loss to App State. Shit happens. If I remember correctly, M went on to have a 9-4 record including a win over Florida in the bowl game. Yeah, the record wasn't great but the team was solid. Wins included PSU (#10) and Florida (#9). Washington still has the TALENT they had starting the season. Lots of turnovers make all of the difference. I think ANY win is a quality win.
