Where was Ben Mason?

Didn’t see him at all.

I don't think he was needed as much.

Wisconsin runs more of a speed front-7, and since Higdon and Patterson were bouncing outside all game, there never really was a point where if felt like either of them couldn't get at least 5+ yards.

The O-Line push, and zone reads, were so good tonight. If we were getting ground up a little bit, then I can imagine a few calls for Mason.

Also they rolled out some more of the offense on film for teams to prepare for.

while i was asking for him too, i think the read option and some of other things we did in short situations put more on tape for opponents to prepare for, so im not too worried. wish more had been fakes to mason tho.

He played some. Fowler called his name on some nice lead blocks for Higdon.

It wasn't really a good game for him, lots of passing and read option for Shea.

I don't recall more than 1 or 2 short yardage situations that would have called for the FB dive.

I hope we get some Ben Mason trap plays next week a la Houma.

I'm sorry if you don't truly know the game of football that well, but if you thought Ben Mason was going to become some huge focal point of the offense...as a fullback, you are strongly mistaken.  He is again, a fullback.  Not a sexy player.  4th and 1, sure.  Maybe a flare here and there....but not a player to expect highlights out of weekly.  There will be some trickery down the road and he'll catch a pass but he's not exactly a go-to type on a down-to-down basis.

It also was quite obvious how much he played tonight.

Edit: lulz, did I type something wrong?

He was in the game for a little bit in a traditional fullback role, but honestly, I don't know that he was absolutely critical against Wisconsin - well, not AS critical given the offensive game plan that unfolded.

We saw Mason a lot last weekend. He ran almost all inside if I recall - maybe one through the C-gap on the goal line. The strength of the Wisconsin D is the LB's, esp. Anderson's, ability to anticipate the inside gaps and fill them. Chryst and his DC over-played M's apparent reliance on the FB v. Maryland to the advantage of M's RO that just killed them. I think there were 5 of those including 1 by McCaffrey for a TD.

If Mason was 100%, using a bit of a counter to that with the RO going outside against aggressive gap filling LBs was a nice scheme change-up on Harbaugh's part.

We'll continue to see Mason. Now, opponents have to worry about the FB v. the outside RO run as potential counters to each other. Diabolic Harbaugh on display.

Man you cant have a heavyweight throwing haymakers and roundhouse kicks every week. The stud needs to build up some energy and rage for sharty. He'll be one of the main ones that will break their front seven's spirits and skeletons. Two birds with one stone. A Mason stone.

As others have said, he played and had some nice blocks, but was not as active as a ball carrier because we were hitting the C gap a lot. Ben Mason is a great ball player, but he's not a stretch runner. Just wasn't the gameplan for him tonight.
