Where is the recruiting news?
Haven't we had groups of recruits in town the past couple weekends? I thought there were predictions that commitments would be coming. Saw the post about Deakon Tonielli, but I assume he was the only one. Anyone else appear to be on the verge? Usually there's at least some reporting after those events.
Buckle up...negs incoming!!!!!!!!!!!!
This site isn't a recruiting site. Go pay 15 bucks or whatever it is to 247 if you're interested in timely recruiting content
https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/hello-te-deakon-tonielli
Is this what he's looking for? You will get recruiting news when kids announce their commitments, until then we are in wait and see mode.
Know what's crazy about that? They report on recruiting ALL the time on this site.
You know, I could be wrong, but I could've sworn I've seen recruiting posts from the mods recently. In fact, lo and behold, they just posted one not more than 10 minutes ago for hoops. Six of the last seven posts put out by Matt, Seth, etc. have all been recruiting. If you count the Joey Baker transfer news as recruiting, then that would make it seven of the last seven.
Is MGoBlog a recruiting site? If you want to be really technical about it, then I suppose you can argue that it isn't. Not in the same way that 247 or Rivals are. But considering how much content from the mods is devoted specifically to recruiting, its pretty misleading to say this is not a recruiting site.
What do you think we're all coming to this site for when its no longer football or basketball season?
The basketball recruiting coverage is kinda bizarre though, to be honest. They’ve posted the exact same articles for guards, wings, and centers like 8 times each with very minor changes. 80% copied and pasted lol. I thought I was having a stroke when I kept reading the same thing over and over.
That said, I don’t think anyone here reads mgoblog for the *primary* purpose of recruiting coverage. It’s a nice bonus if they have time to cover it.
I’ll add that the recruiting info that DOES get posted on here is generally a summary of what is found on the actual recruiting sites and from beat writers and various insiders.
It’s not a live update. The blog isn’t out interviewing recruits after their visits or anything. Info will trickle out from the beat writers and insiders over the next few days/weeks and the info will eventually get summarized into a post here.
That’s why I wish MgoBlog would let it’s users(us) have access to an evolving recruiting forum post for each class….
If it’s news about recruiting bits and momentum that you’re after, I’d recommend getting a subscription at 247 Sports or On3. There’s been a ton of reporting after each visit. I don’t really feel comfortable just copy pasting that info onto the board though. Don’t be a cheapskate and ask for it for free on here
"Don't come here for recruiting info" is def not the tone I expected to see on this board given how insanely important recruiting is for programs that want to win.
Especially considering the fact that recruiting updates are a pretty frequent feature on this site
Agreed. I get that if you want the absolute latest up-to-date news or all the rumblings you can get your paws on, simply pay for the services that provide that.
HOWEVER, one need only glance at Eleven Warriors (y'know, our main rivals' blog) and you can see that they are simply drowning in recruiting news. You know why? Because they know recruiting is vitally important and Ohio State is consistently churning up recruiting stories and tidbits because they're really damn good at recruiting.
Obviously the team here knows the importance of recruiting so I'll just say that if Michigan was having a great and successful recruitment cycle, there'd be news and scuttlebutt posted here. The fact that the most recent post and the majority of recruitment posts are from basketball.....well that kinda tells ya what's going on.
It is copium from many fans here refusing to admit that since the widespread adoption of NIL, Michigan is falling behind and not doing what is necessary to compete.
I mean it doesn't help that UM's head coach sabotaged the program with his NFL adventures right after making an appearance in the Orange Bowl.
I think that is a bigger factor than any NIL ploy that the school is or is not doing
There may be hints of this, but I would say it is more an attempt to state how MGoBlog covers recruiting.
Just switch your heart and soul to following the women’s gymnastics team and you’ll sleep much better at night.
Shut up Toby, it's just June!
To add to it, there are 7 current commits. At the end of June 2021, there were 8 commits. While that may be lagging compared to other programs, it's nearly comparable to last year. Did Harbaugh's flirtation with NFL put some doubt in some recruits' minds? Probably. Is there plenty of time to make that up? Yes. They're going to have to prove it on the field again. Get a few 50-10 victories in September and see what happens. If the commitments don't gain momentum in late summer/early fall, then there might be reason to worry. If they manage to pull in Moore, I would imagine that will initiate that momentum, as well.
Why are you the way that you are?

This comment is 100% correct.
90% of the reason anyone comes here outside of football season is recruiting news.
I wasn't sure if it was that or the increasingly popular "There are.." posts. This blog has been dying a slow death for the past 5+ years.
Other 10% is for the sexy bits!
You're thinking TTB....
The recruiting news is right behind you. Don't turn around to look.
I can sell you exclusive access to some nonexclusive hawt-takes and recruiting summaries on an hourly basis, for the right fee. I can also make up entirely new recruiting metaverses for you, where Michigan out-recruits everyone and is in a bilateral bidding war for both a 1906 Honus Wagner card and vintage Marilyn Monroe (not just the pinup) at the moment with Notre Dame and Yale. You just keep up your quality posting.
I gotta better question for ya, Timmah, "When is the recruiting news?" 🤔
Even better one, Why is recruiting news?
Harbaugh and Warde hate NIL. Michigan will soon become a glorified walk on program. Don't worry about recruiting.
Will Johnson Loves NIL …
I am not a huge Harbaugh fan, but him and Warde have publicly come out and advocated support for NIL to the players. The University, on the other hand, is a different story.
Did you mean to add an /s? If so, you forgot it.
Absolutely horrible take.
Harbaugh has gone on record as saying he is a big proponent of NIL, and is widely known as a huge advocate for empowering student athletes to have more control. That said, what its been insinuated that they won't do is tell a kid "I'll give you 500k if you come play for me."
Once a kid gets on campus, they are fully behind that player using NIL to its fullest potential. But they're not going to bribe the player just to commit to them. Which to a degree, I get it. NILs are essentially prettied-up bribes at this point, depending on how you look at it. But they're at least trying to weed out kids who are solely looking to play for the highest bidder.
But in any case, to say that Harbaugh and Warde are against NIL is a load of crap.
You're kidding, right? In OT season this sight has nearly nothing to cover except recruiting news.
Well, we were going to keep it all a secret. But since you asked . . .
So - you'll get negged badly, but youre asking what many of us are thinking... for weeks it was "wait to june" for the commit bonanza. then last week, it was wait to this week. this week, if you search around, youll see that recruits basically put out the usual "it was good" commentary, but as you said - only 1 person compelled to commit. Couple more commit dates set up for guys, but I think that's all for now. If you ask some people around here, theyll say the coaches are sandbagging and holding back commits ... a strategy used by nobody anywhere.
So - props to you for posting and... prepare for impact.
It definitely is not a tactic used by many but for some reason, Michigan has always done it. That is why we always get a recruiting post bonanza once every summer and one year I believe we had a "12 days of commitmas" where almost 12 guys committed in subsequent days
Yeah, but i dont see how that's better than taking guys now so we don't look like we're struggling. its not like its an actual game that we can come back and "win" .. being ranked so low looks bad to other elite recruits and they arent likely to want to join. Getting 3 5 star WRs like osu every year makes every top QB want to jump on board.
It resolved nicely last year with 3-4 very late, but very good pickups... but there was a solid foundation before that. Harbaugh's coordinator turnover and his very very public, and very extended flirtation with the NFL definitely severed relationships. We waited for a month+ while he danced. Then after that, people jumped ship and we reloaded with mediocre or unknown recruiters.
Everyone wants to say itll all be fine, and it very well might be.. but at the moment, there are no games to enjoy.. and so we want other types of good news, and at the moment, seems to be relatively scarce. The level of the recruits visiting (average) isnt great, and the fact that 3 and low 4 stars are visiting and not committing is very different than in past years.
But if we are sandbagging to have a 9 commit labor day, so be it.
Taking commits now may make you feel warm and fuzzy but I don't think anyone that matters is panicking yet. Just us fans and some internet writers.
Totally a fair point. But i'm not them. so i want to feel warm and fuzzy. for me.
A lot of the traditional recruiting powers lag during the spring before suddenly putting the hammer down.
Just assume there is no recruiting news and you won't be disappointed.
A lot decisions coming in early July. I also wouldn't be shocked if there was some plan to announce in quick succession to build some momentum
Couple guys that Michigan feels great about, dare I say future commits:
Enow Etta. #EE
Jacobe Johnson. #JJ
Jaxon Howard. #JH
Javien Toviano - just cancelled his official to GA :). #JT
Amir Herring. #AH
Also sounds like Jake Butt about to be on his Tony Romo flow.
Cheers

Bit of a stretch to call Toviano a future commit.
don't shoot the messenger, just showing what GoJ posted earlier today
Clink would have to pull a monster out of a hat in order to get Toviano out of Texas.
to be fair
Michigan has the only official visit (according to 247) so ... there's a chance (I already used that gif today so not posting it again).
