That's fine. but if your coach getting fired means you fly that far off the rails, then lets be honest that those impulses existed long before, and just needed a means to get out.

I liked rodman the player. As a person, he's an odd duck, but he doesn't offend me. I do think his DPRK stuff is hilarious, though reckless.

I don't follow the NBA, so I'm curious what is the perception of Green around the league and among his Warrior teammates in particular. I remember him being a POS at MSU, and I've seen the clips of his nut shots on opponents since he joined the league. But in some cases teammates like having an enforcer on board (think Laimbeer or Mahorn for the Pistons, though they didn't seem as dirty as Green). Is this the same with Green or is he seen as dirty by even his own teammates?

Green is increasingly irrelevant to GS. It's no accident that benching Green for larger stretches in the 2022 playoffs - particularly in the Finals - allowed them to get back into the series. Green can't shoot, his defense is overrated and the only value seems to be as an instigator. GS is too smart to keep him around any longer than they have to.

He's been a shitty, dirty player long enough for that to be just accepted as his identity, and now he is "the player everybody hates until he is on your team."  You know, until he punches a rising star on your team in the face for possibly getting a new contract before him.  He is a petulant child that is beloved by the Stephen A. Smiths and talking heads of the NBA world.

I'm not sure whether that was a "sucker punch" but it certainly seemed like an overreaction.

In any case, those two were going to fight from the moment they ended up on the same roster.  My guess is that they have fought before this and will fight again after this.

Such a POS.  The league, the refs, and Kerr have let him get away with whatever he wants, and call it "intensity."  He is a loose cannon and should be suspended for a long time, either by the league or the team.  But he will get away with an apology because major sports leagues are enablers for guys with talent.

I can't understand why some people are saying this is not a sucker punch.  This is a classic case of a sucker punch.  They are not in a bar or boxing ring or fight club circle.  They are at a basketball practice.

The coward walks right into Poole, chest bumping him.  Poole did the right thing and pushed him away and even backed up a couple of steps.

But the coward took two more steps and I am pretty sure he didn't say anything like "Hey Poole I about to throw a punch here!!!"

The worst part is I'm sure the coward actually would brag that he landed a punch like that....

What a piece of low life cowardly s*@t he is.  GS is going to have to do something.....

It's a teammate during a practice where you've pushed him away and are seemingly taking steps back.  That's pretty close to a situation where a normal person wouldn't expect another to start throwing right crosses at your jaw and then slamming into you against a padded wall.

Also, it doesn't really matter if it fits into some narrow definition of a "cheap shot"; it clearly was an unnecessary escalation of the situation by Green.

In response to this post specifically, I went back and watched the video again.  Green is a bad teammate and this was an unnecessary escalation, but it most certainly was not a sucker punch or a cheap shot.  Green is at fault, generally, for closing in on Poole and getting in his face.

However, Poole did not lightly shove Green and retreat.  He pushed him.  It was a fight push.  Green is much bigger than Poole and it is highly unlikely that Poole wanted to fight him and he was trying to balance saving face and backing down simultaneously, a tough ask.  But the punch was not an unforeseen escalation from the push.

It was a dick move, but it was not a sucker punch.

I wonder if this is the first time Poole is seeing the video as well? I feel like I would have a different opinion of the situation if I saw this video. Draymond is an absolute bitch, no way Poole thought that was going to come to blows

I wonder if JP said "Hey Draymond, $95 mil for a football coach that hasn't held a lead at any point in 3 games vs. Power 5 teams this year?" and the emotions were too much to overcome.

While no doubt a winning player who contributed greatly to the Warrior titles, he strikes me as the type of guy who will suddenly reach a tipping point where the contribution doesn't justify the headache/bullshit.  And when that happens, he may very well find himself out of the league entirely.

And with his temper and poor decision making, he may also find himself on the wrong side of the law at some point.  It wouldn't surprise me one bit.

That is criminal conduct. If the District Attorney's office has any self-respect or credibility, they would charge Green today. Placing the decision to charge Green on Poole is classic re-victimization, almost akin to asking a DV victim to make that decision.

This notion in our country that celebrities get special treatment will only be bolstered if Green isn't charged.

Excellent point. The video speaks for itself, you don't need the victim as a witness to make your case.

I'd take it a step further, saying its 10x more clear cut than an average DV case, where the prosecutor has to weigh the fact they may be depriving a family of the bread-winner's ability to earn a living, or the prospect of a revenge minded convict eventually being released back into the victim's home.

Ha! I'm not familiar with the SF DA's office at all, but your comment did make me laugh.

Bringing the conversation back to the substance of my point, it is high profile assaults such as this that often dictate the public's perception, fair or unfair, about the current state of prosecution in our country. When you turn a blind eye to a videotaped assault, it will inevitably lead to other offenders, including DV offenders, to use this as example as to why they shouldn't be prosecuted.

Logically, it makes no sense - DA's prosecute DV assaults regardless of the victim's wishes, but they don't prosecute non-DV assaults absent victim cooperation? I'm not suggesting Draymond needs to go to jail (although this assault was pretty vicious, and if Poole lost consciousness, it would be a felony in some states). I am suggesting that the conduct is clearly criminal, and a first-year law student with a phobia of public speaking could prove this case beyond a reasonable doubt. Just press the "play" button.
