Video of Draymond Green throwing sucker punch

Would that be because he's still Meta World Peace now?
October 7th, 2022 at 10:51 AM ^
Different dude, same energy.
October 7th, 2022 at 11:38 AM ^
That was Ron Artest.
October 7th, 2022 at 12:04 PM ^
That was Ron Artest.
October 7th, 2022 at 11:35 AM ^
There's no video of that. It happened in 1997, before the days when every fight would be caught on video.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:39 AM ^
Jeez. Do not compare this with Worm. Rodman screwed with actual opponents. Not teammates.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:46 AM ^
That's my point. He was an instigator, but in what, by comparison, seems like a more controlled way.. But you're actually wrong about him not f-ing with teammates. They had plenty of drama on those bulls teams.
I know the Michigander crowd has a soft spot for Rodman and Lambeer, but for outsiders... not quite.
October 7th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
Rodman was a lot more normal when he played for Chuck Daly. Daly was a father figure to him. It's hard to imagine now, but Rodman then was considered a model teammate. Things changed when Daly was forced out. Rodman was devastated and started acting out, and never really stopped.
October 7th, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
That's fine. but if your coach getting fired means you fly that far off the rails, then lets be honest that those impulses existed long before, and just needed a means to get out.
I liked rodman the player. As a person, he's an odd duck, but he doesn't offend me. I do think his DPRK stuff is hilarious, though reckless.
October 7th, 2022 at 1:52 PM ^
Sure, it was probably there under the surface, but it didn't manifest itself much while Daly was there. He didn't want to disappoint "Daddy Rich."
October 7th, 2022 at 10:16 AM ^
Wow. He is a professional athlete acting worse then I ever saw in all my years in HS sports. What a punk! F that guy
October 7th, 2022 at 10:16 AM ^
Ole "Triple Single" at it again. Glad Poole is okay, Green is a piece of crap.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:18 AM ^
He is in the POS Hall of Fame, unanimous first ballot inductee, waive the waiting period.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:19 AM ^
His ass should be gone. Poole is a good attorney away from being a minority owner of the Golden State Warriors.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:19 AM ^
I don't follow the NBA, so I'm curious what is the perception of Green around the league and among his Warrior teammates in particular. I remember him being a POS at MSU, and I've seen the clips of his nut shots on opponents since he joined the league. But in some cases teammates like having an enforcer on board (think Laimbeer or Mahorn for the Pistons, though they didn't seem as dirty as Green). Is this the same with Green or is he seen as dirty by even his own teammates?
October 7th, 2022 at 10:24 AM ^
He is kind of like Dennis Rodman with regular hair and not nearly as good.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:25 AM ^
Golden State embraces him for everything that he is. With that said, this video would not have leaked if Golden State didn't want it out there.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:56 AM ^
A great way to go through a tough negotiation is to make the player appear like an absolute cancer to the rest of the league. This was for sure leaked intentionally. GS just saved themselves millions of dollars.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:42 AM ^
Green is increasingly irrelevant to GS. It's no accident that benching Green for larger stretches in the 2022 playoffs - particularly in the Finals - allowed them to get back into the series. Green can't shoot, his defense is overrated and the only value seems to be as an instigator. GS is too smart to keep him around any longer than they have to.
October 7th, 2022 at 11:00 AM ^
The writing is on the wall for him after the finals last year. He is a complete 0 offensively
October 7th, 2022 at 12:42 PM ^
He's been a shitty, dirty player long enough for that to be just accepted as his identity, and now he is "the player everybody hates until he is on your team." You know, until he punches a rising star on your team in the face for possibly getting a new contract before him. He is a petulant child that is beloved by the Stephen A. Smiths and talking heads of the NBA world.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:20 AM ^
Not a sucker punch, but, say it with me now:
Draymond is a PUNK! ASS! BITCH!!!!!
October 7th, 2022 at 10:21 AM ^
Green is trash. My 5 year old has better control of her feelings. I'm glad Poole is ok.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:21 AM ^
Green is douche canoe. We are talking about the same guy who posted a picture of his penis on social media. Glad Jordan is ok.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:24 AM ^
User name checks out
October 7th, 2022 at 11:20 AM ^
Seriously, he really did that? Who does he think he is, Anthony Weiner?
October 7th, 2022 at 10:21 AM ^
Garbage move. Anyone that has ever played knows things get heated in practice but that is some stone cold bullshit.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:22 AM ^
I'm not sure whether that was a "sucker punch" but it certainly seemed like an overreaction.
In any case, those two were going to fight from the moment they ended up on the same roster. My guess is that they have fought before this and will fight again after this.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:28 AM ^
Such a POS. The league, the refs, and Kerr have let him get away with whatever he wants, and call it "intensity." He is a loose cannon and should be suspended for a long time, either by the league or the team. But he will get away with an apology because major sports leagues are enablers for guys with talent.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:30 AM ^
Uh...why isn't Green going to jail?
October 7th, 2022 at 10:33 AM ^
Dray is an embarrassment to the B1G. Little bro issues are way to overwhelming for that guy.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:37 AM ^
I can't understand why some people are saying this is not a sucker punch. This is a classic case of a sucker punch. They are not in a bar or boxing ring or fight club circle. They are at a basketball practice.
The coward walks right into Poole, chest bumping him. Poole did the right thing and pushed him away and even backed up a couple of steps.
But the coward took two more steps and I am pretty sure he didn't say anything like "Hey Poole I about to throw a punch here!!!"
The worst part is I'm sure the coward actually would brag that he landed a punch like that....
What a piece of low life cowardly s*@t he is. GS is going to have to do something.....
October 7th, 2022 at 10:46 AM ^
I think it comes down to different definitions of a sucker punch. As I have always understood a sucker punch, it is a circumstance where one party has NO IDEA that a punch could be coming. To me, that doesn't line up with this video.
October 7th, 2022 at 11:51 AM ^
It's a teammate during a practice where you've pushed him away and are seemingly taking steps back. That's pretty close to a situation where a normal person wouldn't expect another to start throwing right crosses at your jaw and then slamming into you against a padded wall.
Also, it doesn't really matter if it fits into some narrow definition of a "cheap shot"; it clearly was an unnecessary escalation of the situation by Green.
October 7th, 2022 at 1:52 PM ^
In response to this post specifically, I went back and watched the video again. Green is a bad teammate and this was an unnecessary escalation, but it most certainly was not a sucker punch or a cheap shot. Green is at fault, generally, for closing in on Poole and getting in his face.
However, Poole did not lightly shove Green and retreat. He pushed him. It was a fight push. Green is much bigger than Poole and it is highly unlikely that Poole wanted to fight him and he was trying to balance saving face and backing down simultaneously, a tough ask. But the punch was not an unforeseen escalation from the push.
It was a dick move, but it was not a sucker punch.
October 7th, 2022 at 4:54 PM ^
Might want to see an eye doctor. That push was 100% de-escalatory.
When you get in someone's face and they want you away from them, do you commonly react by blasting them in the jaw?
October 7th, 2022 at 8:39 PM ^
I don’t punch anybody in the face. It’s just a disagreement as to what a sucker punch is. This was a bullshit move. It was also a move Poole should have reasonably seen coming from the events proceeding it.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:38 AM ^
I wonder if this is the first time Poole is seeing the video as well? I feel like I would have a different opinion of the situation if I saw this video. Draymond is an absolute bitch, no way Poole thought that was going to come to blows
October 7th, 2022 at 10:40 AM ^
I wonder if JP said "Hey Draymond, $95 mil for a football coach that hasn't held a lead at any point in 3 games vs. Power 5 teams this year?" and the emotions were too much to overcome.
October 7th, 2022 at 2:42 PM ^
I read somewhere that Poole called Green “triple single”. Cuts to the core of Green’s fading career.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:44 AM ^
Yep, that’s what you want in a teammate. What an asshole. But we already knew that.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:47 AM ^
While no doubt a winning player who contributed greatly to the Warrior titles, he strikes me as the type of guy who will suddenly reach a tipping point where the contribution doesn't justify the headache/bullshit. And when that happens, he may very well find himself out of the league entirely.
And with his temper and poor decision making, he may also find himself on the wrong side of the law at some point. It wouldn't surprise me one bit.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:50 AM ^
Well, Steve Kerr is an expert in this department.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:53 AM ^
That is criminal conduct. If the District Attorney's office has any self-respect or credibility, they would charge Green today. Placing the decision to charge Green on Poole is classic re-victimization, almost akin to asking a DV victim to make that decision.
This notion in our country that celebrities get special treatment will only be bolstered if Green isn't charged.
October 7th, 2022 at 11:17 AM ^
Excellent point. The video speaks for itself, you don't need the victim as a witness to make your case.
I'd take it a step further, saying its 10x more clear cut than an average DV case, where the prosecutor has to weigh the fact they may be depriving a family of the bread-winner's ability to earn a living, or the prospect of a revenge minded convict eventually being released back into the victim's home.
October 7th, 2022 at 2:54 PM ^
Unfortunately, this happened in San Francisco, where the DA's office has precisely zero self-respect, nor credibility.
October 7th, 2022 at 3:45 PM ^
Ha! I'm not familiar with the SF DA's office at all, but your comment did make me laugh.
Bringing the conversation back to the substance of my point, it is high profile assaults such as this that often dictate the public's perception, fair or unfair, about the current state of prosecution in our country. When you turn a blind eye to a videotaped assault, it will inevitably lead to other offenders, including DV offenders, to use this as example as to why they shouldn't be prosecuted.
Logically, it makes no sense - DA's prosecute DV assaults regardless of the victim's wishes, but they don't prosecute non-DV assaults absent victim cooperation? I'm not suggesting Draymond needs to go to jail (although this assault was pretty vicious, and if Poole lost consciousness, it would be a felony in some states). I am suggesting that the conduct is clearly criminal, and a first-year law student with a phobia of public speaking could prove this case beyond a reasonable doubt. Just press the "play" button.
October 7th, 2022 at 10:56 AM ^
How’s he still on the team after that
