for 4 years. He wouldn't play QB at Michigan. Not when O'Korn has an entire year on him and superior passing skills.

once he's hit by a stiff wind.
John O'Korn fits Michigan better. Hill is fragile and isn't all that good of a passer.

In this context it's obvious that I am referring to his inability to stay healthy. That does not mean he isn't tough.
I have to point that because someone plays football that does not mean they know how to fight. You also have no idea who I am. I could be Chuck Norris for all you know. Toughness also isn't measured by fighting ability. Only neaderthals use that as a measure of toughness.

You know how to tell when people don't know how to fight? Or anything about fighting in general?
When they make comments like this one.

Don't be so quick to judge...Salvatore's got a sword.

Brandon Peters may have something to say about it in August.

I agree with your thoughts.
On a larger scale, the current staff really has not made a concerted effort to recruit a read option quarterback. They've recruited Gentry and Peters and brought in Rudock. I'd be surprised if they would bring in a 5th year guy to run a read option offense for only 1 year.

I think Malzone may make some noise. Seriously.

Yes and no. Maybe I'm being shallow, but it seems like it might be tough to get non-Mormon football players to come to a school that makes students follow the Church Educational System Honor Code.

I have a friend in development at the Univerity of Utah. He has a LOT of connections in the state of Utah, and especially in athletics (as he played basketball and became something of a local hero at the U).
This friend has been telling me for a year that BYU is shutting its football program down. The difficulty is what many of us predicted: Trying to pretend you're Notre Dame and going Independent is not a great plan if you're not Notre Dame. BYU football has been hemmoraging cash, the football program has had difficulty putting schedules together since most teams are in league play for most of the season, and the Church leadership doesn't really care as much about football as most BYU alums do.
The prediction seems to be one more year, tops. The stadium already has an interested buyer, Utah Valley University (not long ago Utah Valley State College).
While it appears to be something of a step down, Bronco read the writing on the wall. In his view, it's a step up over nothing.

True story.
December 5th, 2015 at 2:40 AM ^
Umm or you know they could just join a conference...?
The Big 12 would be a nice landing spot.
December 5th, 2015 at 1:27 PM ^
But they haven't had success.
The MWC would be happy to have BYU back, but BYU doesn't think joining the MWC would work for them financially. Despite Boise State's presence.
Unfortunately for BYU, and despite media chatter, the Big 12 hasn't been too keen on BYU's addition.

to such a reasoned, pragmatic stance.
But from what I hear, Church leadership is not as interested in the football team as they are in direct evangelism.

Really? A P5 conference in a winnable division. Better facilities and access to Hampton Road, Richmond, DC, Pennsylvania and Jersey recruiting areas. It's clearly an upgrade in his mind and any other objective mind.

Objective, you say?
Funny use of that word coming from somebody with that particular user name.

Independent with no hope of ever making the CFP to theoretically having a chance because of the ACC. Va is fertile recruiting ground with access to the mid-atlantic/south vs a school in the mountains with an honor code that forbids making the poor decisions that are the best part of the college experience.
UVA seems committed to upgrading their sports. Basketball and baseball on the men's side is more than solid. They stuck with a loser coach for far too long or football would be on the upswing.
December 4th, 2015 at 5:28 PM ^
He did play at BYU and Utah has been chintzy with the funds.
December 4th, 2015 at 5:32 PM ^
Why leave P5 conference though?
Whittingham >> Bronco in my book but decent hire I suppose for UVA - a program which should be way better in football.

Good luck getting all the wildly talented Somoans and 25 year old freshman-been-on-a-missions to go to UVA! ;)

at least relative to Maryland's hiring of Durkin. I saw a report (ESPN) that Mendenhall is getting $3.25M/year. This, for a successful HC. Maryland is paying out $3M/year on more of a "flyer."
