Submitted by JMac on

I do not know a lot about the writer,Nancy A.  Clearly this might linger.

Urban is a POS but people will continue to hate Harbaugh because he is awkward in some press conferences and hasn't won a national title in his 3 years since taking over a 5-7 football team.

What a douchebag. Self preservation is a VERY strong motive, but what is to gain here? Smith’s not even that great of a coach. Was he a great recruiter? What am I missing?

Sounds like Urban had loyalty to Smith because he was Earl Bruce's grandson.  Earl Bruce was a mentor to Urban and Urban was a mentor to Smith.

Lots of people make dumb decisions and many of them are people to whom you should have some loyalty (relatives, etc.)   Not really defending Urban, but when you're dealing with hundreds of young men, there are bound to be some bad apples.    Maybe it's bad luck, but Urban seems to have a disproportionate number of murderers, er,  bad apples.

This will not linger. Not anymore than another 48 hours or so until the internet can rage about something else.

If MSU can get away with what they're getting away with, nobody's going to give a shit about Urban's WR coach.

Absolutely right.  The "playbook" for dealing with issues like these is sooooooo easy:

1. Make general statement saying basically "oops, our bad" and terminate the bad actor or scapegoat.

2. Pretend like it was no big deal anyways.

3. Refuse to answer any further questions on the issue.  Claim it's for the healing process so people can move on emotionally

4. Wait for media to get bored/frustrated and move on to something else

5. Rinse...repeat

Not sure if you've seen Comedians in Cars getting Coffee but there's one episode in the new season with comedian Neal Brennan where he says (paraphrasing) he knows he will get caught up in this whole rage culture by something stupid at some point but his defense will be: give it 30 days, if your still made about whatever I said, come find me.

That seems to be the solution - just wait until the next guy says something stupid and people will forget.

“Domestic issues are a lot of he-said, she-said,” Meyer said.

Are you fucking kidding me? He should be crucified for saying something like that.

He's been doing this shit since his Florida days. It's very well known that he has the power to make bad things disappear and basically make his players/staff untouchable

I don't think she's wrong here.  Urban A) admitted the public reveal was the main reason for the firing, B) said it was a "tough decision", and C) said these stories were untrue but fired him anyways.  This logic shows he was worried about the image of himself as well as getting the 5-star recruits that we all know he loves so much.  He's a maniacal competitor and needs to win at all costs.  Both his offensive and defensive coordinators were hires of men with bandages on their conduct reports. But when information comes out in public then it is time to run (see Florida).

Additionally, the only people defending Urban are OSU fans (these are also the same people that hated and criticized him for these same types of actions when he was at UF - but now hes a holy being aparently). Obviously nothing will come of this because Gene Smith is riding Urban like seabiscuit bc his job depends on it, but it makes me happy that we have men of character at UM.  So when they remind you that UM hasnt finished higher than 4th in the east make sure to have them clarify whether they are talking about football, racism, sexual assault, beating pregnant women, showering with kids, or man-on-man rape of a boys gymnastics team.

I also thought it was weird how he kept saying "I'm going to do what is best for our program."  It was an odd thing to say when being question why he let a guy go.  If it was best for the program he would have done it a long time ago.  But, it is best for the program now because people know. Nothing else.

While I think Meyer has improved somewhat in character, this still reeks of his Florida tenure and all the slime involved. I'm not a big fan of coaches that enable bad behavior.

I am scared that there will be an uproar and the public would call for his resignation. With OSU's luck, if Meyer were to leave, Dabo and Sean McVay would fight over who gets the gig smh.
