USA Today not giving Urban a Pass
I do not know a lot about the writer,Nancy A. Clearly this might linger.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/character-and-morals-self-prese…Urban is a POS but people will continue to hate Harbaugh because he is awkward in some press conferences and hasn't won a national title in his 3 years since taking over a 5-7 football team.
OMG. I can't believe I can vote again (if you have over 1000 points you may not get this)
I can't :(
how many points do you need to up/down vote?
More than I have :(
my points haven't updated in weeks. This site's makeover is...not so good.
Me neither...:(
It took me like 5 years to get 100 so if I need 1000 chances are I’ll be dead before I can upvote or downvote.
Right. And Harbaugh "has never won anything," since apparently two conference titles at San Diego, two NFC west division titles and an NFC championship don't count as "anything" in a relatively short career as a head coach.
What a douchebag. Self preservation is a VERY strong motive, but what is to gain here? Smith’s not even that great of a coach. Was he a great recruiter? What am I missing?
Smith was not a good coach. He may have been a great recruiter but I think it is more Urban/OSU as opposed to any assistant coach.
Sounds like Urban had loyalty to Smith because he was Earl Bruce's grandson. Earl Bruce was a mentor to Urban and Urban was a mentor to Smith.
Lots of people make dumb decisions and many of them are people to whom you should have some loyalty (relatives, etc.) Not really defending Urban, but when you're dealing with hundreds of young men, there are bound to be some bad apples. Maybe it's bad luck, but Urban seems to have a disproportionate number of murderers, er, bad apples.
^^^THIS is the reason.
Hey, come on. Everybody murders.
but not Craig James!
Allegedly.
Speaking of... Where is that guy? Haven't seen him around since the site change.
LINK for those who are too lazy to copy and paste
Well it'd be rude to give him a pass when he doesn't have a receiving coach anymore, amirite?? I'll show myself out now..
We didn’t have a receiving coach last year... it all makes sense now
Everyone in the B1G gets canned for enabling rape culture...Why not domestic abuse? #CanUrban
I should include along with getting canned: either dies and/or also goes to prison
If Urban disciplined domestic abuse he wouldn't have had a team at Florida
This will not linger. Not anymore than another 48 hours or so until the internet can rage about something else.
If MSU can get away with what they're getting away with, nobody's going to give a shit about Urban's WR coach.
Absolutely right. The "playbook" for dealing with issues like these is sooooooo easy:
1. Make general statement saying basically "oops, our bad" and terminate the bad actor or scapegoat.
2. Pretend like it was no big deal anyways.
3. Refuse to answer any further questions on the issue. Claim it's for the healing process so people can move on emotionally
4. Wait for media to get bored/frustrated and move on to something else
5. Rinse...repeat
Not sure if you've seen Comedians in Cars getting Coffee but there's one episode in the new season with comedian Neal Brennan where he says (paraphrasing) he knows he will get caught up in this whole rage culture by something stupid at some point but his defense will be: give it 30 days, if your still made about whatever I said, come find me.
That seems to be the solution - just wait until the next guy says something stupid and people will forget.
But God forbid don't say anything poorly about the officiating!!!!
Don't forget about some old-fashioned victim-blaming (she started it, asked for it, is looking to capitalize). Blaming media is another good way to go.
I almost wanted to say that it's too bad that Dave Brandon never learned that lesson in PR, but then I realized that if he had, he may still be our AD, so thank God he never learned that lesson.
Would you have Michigan do this?
I’m torn, actually. Based on the 10+ year purgatory the b-ball team went through, I’d say yes. But then, Leaders and Best and all.
I must say most of the comments on 11 Warriors have been quite civil and reasonable compared to what we've seen on PSU and MSU sites.
“Domestic issues are a lot of he-said, she-said,” Meyer said.
Are you fucking kidding me? He should be crucified for saying something like that.
Problem is that he's not wrong. There are only two people who know exactly what went down, and both of them have incentive to lie.
This doesn't stop Urban from being a piece of shit, and it doesn't excuse domestic abuse.
Problem is, if that statement is in context, it's an incredibly stupid thing to say. There's too much risk. How did that comment get past their fixers?
What exactly do you think he-said, she-said means? Unless there was an independent witness, that is appropriate.
I don’t think he’s wrong, just maybe not the best thing to say when a guy has a history, like smith does.

He's been doing this shit since his Florida days. It's very well known that he has the power to make bad things disappear and basically make his players/staff untouchable
didn't he finally fire him after he violated a restraining order? I might have misread it, but that dumbass still has a job if he doesn't violate the restraining order.
I think he only fired him to take heat off his own ass.

He finally fired him after Smith's record surfaced and the story started picking up steam. If a random message board poster hadn't brought up his recent court date and set all of this in motion, it would still be business as usual down there.
Florida days, everything was just fine in Florida, isn't that right a-a-ron....
I don't think she's wrong here. Urban A) admitted the public reveal was the main reason for the firing, B) said it was a "tough decision", and C) said these stories were untrue but fired him anyways. This logic shows he was worried about the image of himself as well as getting the 5-star recruits that we all know he loves so much. He's a maniacal competitor and needs to win at all costs. Both his offensive and defensive coordinators were hires of men with bandages on their conduct reports. But when information comes out in public then it is time to run (see Florida).
Additionally, the only people defending Urban are OSU fans (these are also the same people that hated and criticized him for these same types of actions when he was at UF - but now hes a holy being aparently). Obviously nothing will come of this because Gene Smith is riding Urban like seabiscuit bc his job depends on it, but it makes me happy that we have men of character at UM. So when they remind you that UM hasnt finished higher than 4th in the east make sure to have them clarify whether they are talking about football, racism, sexual assault, beating pregnant women, showering with kids, or man-on-man rape of a boys gymnastics team.
This will not for a single minute after the media days are over be a thought in anyone’s mind on OSU’s campus....
I also thought it was weird how he kept saying "I'm going to do what is best for our program." It was an odd thing to say when being question why he let a guy go. If it was best for the program he would have done it a long time ago. But, it is best for the program now because people know. Nothing else.
Questioned*
While I think Meyer has improved somewhat in character, this still reeks of his Florida tenure and all the slime involved. I'm not a big fan of coaches that enable bad behavior.
I am scared that there will be an uproar and the public would call for his resignation. With OSU's luck, if Meyer were to leave, Dabo and Sean McVay would fight over who gets the gig smh.
Personally I'd happily face either of those guys over Meyer.
