Does anything need to be unwound? Could Michigan fulfill its obligations to the Big Ten the NCAA and the networks with a shell of the current team – essentially turning it into the Washington generals and making a well-deserved mockery of the existing institutions while the current players and coaches sign their own individual contracts to join a new team that uses the university brand?

We are the Yankees. We are the Red Sox. We are the Celtics. We are the Lakers. We are the Harlem Globetrotters. We are the attraction. We are the team people tune in to watch. The rest of the conference, besides OSU and PSU, is the opponent. You can’t have a game with 1 team. We can find opponents anywhere people like money. Do you like money? I like money.

When we leave, we take our eyeballs with us. The money will follow us.  Rutgers, MSU, Indiana, Illinois, etc. immediately become Oregon State and Washington State. Be careful what you wish for, Big10. You’ve just opened Pandora’s box and fucked yourself with it.

This is not the argument from Michigan's side for staying in the B0G. This should be the argument from the other 13 schools for why they need to keep Michigan. Michigan will be fine anywhere they end up. The B0G would not be fine if Michigan leaves. The other 13 are cutting off their noses to spite their face.

The way I see it, if Michigan still wins the conference this year, it will probably blow over. If Michigan doesn't, it could very well set a chain of events in motion that eventually results in Michigan leaving the conference (as crazy as that may have sounded a month ago).

People are angry, and I get it. But everyone involved is also a businessperson, and in business, you learn to work with people you despise and resent if the outcome works for you.

If Michigan goes to the playoffs regardless, the focus will go back to what Michigan gets out of it, and maybe Pettiti goes find some corporate gig in a couple of years and the new guy is conciliatory, people will move on.

If Michigan however loses a shot at the NC because of this Big Ten agenda then yeah I think some bridges may have been burnt.

If I was President Ono, I would like to know who in the B1G office informed ESPN before Michigan was provided with notice.

And, if there are court proceedings associated with the TRO - I assume this is a question that can be asked.

We’re talking basic integrity - and, the B1G doesn’t appear to have much of it.

It feels like we're being punked and/or trolled by the entire conference.

Three games?! for HAND SIGNALS?

We had players getting beaten over the head with helmets last year. Actual crimes comitted

Three?! GAMES?!

I can’t be the only one that this would be one the worst possible outcomes, can I?

I mean this whole charade is complete BS and I, for one was happy when Michigan was playing “outside the rules” a little because it is one of the the biggest open secrets that the perennial top teams do this at a minimum. It signified that Michigan, under Harbaugh, was serious about competing for national championships in this new era and trying to even the playing field with the SEC ….. but I still love the idea of playing the annual contests against OSU, MSU, etc. That has to mean something. Some of the traditions we have mean a lot and I would hate for it to stop.. That’s the college football I love and while the landscape is changing (and I am in favor of it) the B10 Conference traditional contests are the last thing we have to hold on to. Again, the B10 is treating and handling this like a complete shit show, but I guess I’m willing to put up with it to not leave the B10.

while I don’t think that Michigan would ever leave the B10, I don’t even want to speak it into existence.

All the conference had to do was…nothing. Let the NCAA investigation play out. It’s clear the member institutions don’t respect Michigan. They don’t appreciate how their bread gets buttered. Michigan has never fought an investigation no matter how trivial and even overreacted in self imposed sanctions IMO. And yet the conference pounced anyway. Fuck em. We’re not wanted here.

I respect your oplnlon, but I disagree.  I’m 89 years old and have been a Michigan fan for over 75 years.  I’m also a Michigan alumni.  In all that time I have never seen the University treated so shabbily.  MSU has always treated us as not a friendly rival but as a hate object.  OSU used to be an intense but fair rival.  They are now an underhanded back stabbing institution.  The BiG it now seems clear is determined to destroy Jim H, and has no regard for the University.  The rest of the Big has turned its back on Michigan.  We have no supporters or friends in any of the schools.  They all are happy to find any reason slander and abuse Michigan.  Time to leave and find a new home.

ESPN reported before UM was informed?

Tony Pettiti continues to demonstrate spectacular incompetence and/or malfeasance. Wow. I’m actually impressed.

I think the idea of dumping the big10 should be advanced from talking about it to actively seeking other options and possibilities.

Of course, this should be announced as Coach Harbaugh is accepting the National  Championship trophy.

I wish we could see whatever contracts bind M to the B1G and the TV deal if relevant. After this clown show gets destroyed in the courts I wouldn't be surprised if it could be used to prove the B1G breached the contract and thus M can get out of it. Spending 6 more years in this shit, unless we get a brand new commissioner before next season who is extremely biased toward M, is untenable.

For all sports or just football? I don't know what UM would gain by leaving basketball or hockey or softball, but I guess it may have to be all sports.

Go independent. ASAP.

Michigan will be the most watched team from here on out especially considering the haters.

The B1G has become so terrible at football they're all thinking "Michigan must be cheating"

Naw bitch you suck...all of you...especially you "just for men" ya you.

On a side note we need $10 mill to get JJ & company to return for another run.

If the B1G were the still the old Big Ten, with it's Great Lakes (+Iowa) footprint, I'd be sad.  But since it's about to be a ludicrous coast-to-coast spectacle, I'm all in favor of joining the ACC instead.  FSU and Clemson in football? Duke, UNC, and Louisville in basketball? Regular trips to Boston and Miami?  I'm in.

Honestly, I can’t believe how dumb Pettiti has shown himself to be about this whole situation. Fine, you succumb to the mob and gang up against M (your biggest cash cow, mind you) and maybe I can understand the self preservation in that — but then you leak all news to YOUR tv partners biggest competition (ESPN)… what are we even doing here. If I am Fox I am even more living now and, I’m doing whatever I can to get rid of this bafoon by yesterday.

Something I haven't heard brought up yet. If Michigan and Notre Dame join the ACC it's open season on the Big 12. Expect Kansas State, Oklahoma State, West Virginia and TCU to join as well.

USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington must be thrilled to be walking into this mess. They must know that they'll be perpetually outvoted, and clearly there is no collegiality or fairness among the members of the conference they're joining.

Also, if Michigan actually moves to leave the conference, the four incomers should be paying close attention. They are joining in order to get a slice of the money and interest Michigan generates. Oregon isn't excited about their game at Purdue next year, but they should be psyched about the TV ratings their game at Michigan should generate. If Michigan is working their way out of the conference, well, they didn't join to play Minnesota and Iowa.

Seems to me the path for Michigan, if they choose to accept it, is to get the super league going. Talk to USC, Notre Dame, and the biggest state schools: Texas, Florida, Georgia, UNC. Include Ohio State and Penn State if you must. Leave the MSUs and Northwesterns of the world to the lower levels, and create an exclusive, professional college football league.

Pretty sure we’re gonna win. Just like if Harbaugh actually has to sit out (he won’t) but I’m not even sure that would cause them to lose. They are a phenomenal team and Moore/Minter call their own games (to some degree). The gameplan will be Jim’s and he would still be there for game prep. I fully believe that millions of dollars will get you anything in court but they’re on the right side and the petty method to skirt due process even more by slow playing it should be enough to show foul play. That letter is bulletproof too. Such an amazing idiot this Pettiti guy: is that what’s best for the B1G? Not at all.  Just wait. It’s going to get crazy.
