It's fair to defend a friend, and I respect you for it. But in fairness, he didn't get "caught up" in anything. He decided to write articles that tarred Michigan for really petty, stupid things. Whatever blowback has come from that was fully earned by what he did, and he should have seen it coming.

A possible explanation is he has an unhealthy ego which causes him to escalate situations which should be mitigated in his professional position. If so, this behavior should have been foreseen by the conference before hiring this imbecile.

Only three schools (PSU, OSU and Northwestern) are represented by the joint committee. If Pettiti had any brains at all, he'd have asked the PSU/OSU people to recuse themselves.

In any capacity, I don't think it was Harbaugh's job to vet the personal lives of his prospective employees, which was the basis of my joke that I now realize was just horrible.

I’ve always been a believer in that if I’m not wanted by someone/somewhere, it’s time to move on. Nothing in life lasts forever, no matter how painful. Many times you end up in a better place.
That’s what I see with this situation. Our “rivals” have taken things too far and have no appreciation for how much their existence and relevance relies on us. Kudos to them for stooping lower than anyone could have expected in an effort to “win.”
As with many situations in politics, which make no mistake this is politics, sometimes when you win short-term, you lose long-term. That’s what our Conference “partners” have to look forward to: a world without U of M. That’s something they were sure they wanted. As the old saying goes, be careful what you wish for…
