Excited for this next chapter! Let’s get it!! #GOBLUE 〽️?〽️ pic.twitter.com/6wCYOq5Suj
Does this pic mean he can play LT?
I think Coach Harbaugh wants him as a TE.
Welcome Home!!!
I always get nervous he is going to be tripped by that cord
I hope he does this some time as head coach.
Long arms, good bend and lateral movement. Will need some time in the weight room but the frame is there.
Interesting.
If the numbers are correct, it is interesting to me as well. Thought he would get paid more, but I guess he has never been a head coach before. Plus, maybe Howard is willing to take less to get more to his assistants.
This plus he already made nine figures
Plenty of incentives/bonus money and progressive salary. Numbers are right.
Absolutely. If he's successful they'll rewrite the deal. But if Beilein was only making a bit above $3.3MM, this feels about right for a new guy when money isn't an issue.
Beilein's 2018 extension bumped him to $3.8, fwiw.
Yeah, I forgot about the bump. I just remember hearing he made something like a million less than Izzo, which seemed weird to me.
I doubt this is about the money for him. He had a very long NBA career and probably has accumulated more wealth than he could ever spend.
Still, he will be spending a ton of time away from his family and would be ok for him to negotiate for fair compensation for him. I don't follow coaches pay much so I have no idea on his deal, but I'm sure it's fair.
I didn't realize how much time these coaches invested until Coach Beilein left and the tidbits of info of a college coach were in stories.
Go Blue!
Dang double post.
My bad.
He's never been a head coach. This is plenty fair given he has only been an NBA bench coach.
There is no such thing as an athlete accumulating more wealth than they can spend.

I could live on that.
I too would be willing to suffer
Bah, that's pennies to Maizen/1201, at least he doesn't have to live in Ohio though.
So he’s making at minimum like 1.2 million less a year than Beilein.
Time to retain Yak and go get another big time assistant.
I really hope U-M can retain Yaklich, but based on what Sam Webb has said and some of Amy Yaklich's twitter activity that appears to be looking not so hot at the moment.
I like Yak, but holy shit we are making too much out of retaining him. I would much rather get an offensive minded assistant than retain Yak. In my opinion, he is getting waaaaaaay too much credit for our defense the last two years. Yak may well be a great assistant, but our defense was so much better than any other Beilein defense because we had Simpson, Matthews, and Teske instead of Burke, Stauskas, and Morgan/Horford.
edit: I shouldn’t say I’d rather get an offensive assistant than keep Yak. I would love to keep Yak and get an offensive minded assistant so that we can keep some continuity on staff. If it were one or the other, I’d much rather have Howard, a defensive minded head coach, get an assistant that is amazing at something he isn’t known for
Given Howard's defensive coaching abilities (from everything I've read that's his calling card more or less) I'm fine if Yak leaves and if that's the case I'd prefer to see us getting a more offensive-minded assistant, but to discredit Yak's contributions to our defense the past two years is nuts.
Ever stop to think that it was BECAUSE of Yak's coaching that Simpson, Teske and Matthews were such good defenders.
Of course, Yak helped Simpson, Matthews and Teske reach their potential. But those three have absolutely uncoachable skill sets and defensive athleticism. They deserve a ton of credit, probably the strong majority. All three are elite defenders.
The better argument is what Yak did with a guy like Duncan Robinson.
Agreed. Important to retain at least one assistant IMO and I’d also prefer to have a former HC on staff as he’s never been one but it’s not Yak or bust. Yak might be our best bet to keep Jalen Wilson, but if that’s the reasoning, it’s a poor one
He also had the #2 defense in the country with Mo Wagner and Duncan Robinson in the starting 5. He improved Donlon's ranking by almost 30 spots. And not only that he's proven to be an outstanding recruiter. Don't think his impact is being overstated one bit.
Agreed. He turned Michigan into a defensive power overnight, and was the driving force in us having such incredible seasons the past two years. If those were standard Beilein defenses, we lose quite a few more games.
I don't see him staying. Just put yourself in Yak's shoes - I don't think you would be pumped about what just happened.
That being said, I think Howard will be able to instill a very good D. But Yak will definitely be missed
Robinson wasn't in the starting lineup last year. His minutes were more than Livers but he didn't start.
Donlon only had one year at the helm and had a major turn around himself, who knows what would have happened year two.
Hes also proven to be a fine recruiter but nowhere near elite. Michigan recruited better under lavall and Bacari. He’s a good assistant coach, he’s not the difference between cratering and succeeding as a program like some are making him out to be.
Last ditch effort from maizen hoping yak is not retained so he can bitch some more.
Pretty hard not to credit Yak for a lot of Jon Teske's defense though. This is a guy that does not have elite athleticism yet has been coached so well that he's in the right spots and knows exactly how to use his abilities.
Also, Yak had MAAR, Duncan and Wagner (remember, Teske didn't even play that much last season) who were all terrible defenders when he arrived and he turned them into adequate defenders and yet turned Michigan into the third best defensive team in the country. I don't think you realize how impressive that is. It is not simply because he had three good defensive players.
And people keep forgetting that he turned Illinois State into the 16th best defensive team in the country after steady improvement from his first to fourth year with them. Illinois State! 16th best! And they immediately plummeted to 135th despite returning their two rim protecting bigs (who both experienced a big dip in block percentage after he left).
His track record has all the making of a future star. He literally could have have done any better in his six years as an assistant. Talk about hitting your ceiling and going right through it. It's amazing how quickly people are taking this for granted.
True but you cannot teach 7'1". First UM rim protector in 30+ yrs.
Still plenty of money to buy a nice super soaker and some goggles.
Since D Wade and LeBron love him so much, will they let their sons play for him? Welcome home Juwan.
I hope Bronny does. Maybe for PR perspective lil Wade, but he isn't really all that great of a player. But it would be good to have the Wade family around
Is this when we remember that the current Mrs. Wade was once married to the leading rusher on the 1997 Michigan team?
You know that's funny, because it's one of those things I knew, but I never thought about till you reminded me.
I saw that ESPN had an article today about this very thing saying they believed that Juwan could very likely get both Lebron’s and Wade’s boys due to the connections.
Wow that’s low. Should be able to land a really good staff.
I'm sure Nike will pitch in with some Summer spending money, wink wink nod nod...
