Yeah, not a good start for a new coach even if he thinks he can do a bit better at the position.  Yes he built Oregon St. into a solid Pac-12 team but I think it's telling that as the league improved this year Oregon St. lost some games.  He'll raise th ceiling for MSU but he's going to need to recruit at a higher level to be able to compete in this league.

Why would anyone with a bit of talent even consider staying at staee?  The sparties are such a mess that it's going to take Smith at least 2 seasons, maybe more, to get them back to fleabag bowl-level via the portal.

Can't blame the 2 QBs for wanting out while still young enough to find an opportunity at a more stable program.

It's hilarious to me that 3 message board links down we all praise Harbaugh for his level headed thought about how competition turning to hatred is unhealthy and not good for the soul, and then I come here and it's pure joy at the misery of a school and team that is struggling immensely.

That said, msu can go f itself.

Leavitt is from Oregon, but according to 247 he was not offered by Oregon State.  Hope Oregon State's current quarterback doesn't follow Smith to MSU, but even if he does he will play U-M one year and that's in The Big House.

I'm glad Sam isn't our QB. Anyone who puts himself (4 games but no thanks, I'm redshirting from now on) above THE TEAM, THE TEAM, THE TEAM doesn't deserve to play for a real school. Even if he had lost his RS, if he's even a decent QB, he'd have three more years to play. I fully understand a coach talking with a player about trying to save his RS for the next year, but this guy went public about wanting to save "HIS" RS.

Houser had one good game vs. Rutgers and was good against a very bad IU D. Not saying they sucked because of him, but PSU game was a disaster for his confidence.
