TWIS is up...
and, of course, Bert's team is the headliner. Instant Karma.

"I'd take Brady Hoke in a heartbeat"
Oh man, Maryland fan. No. Just... no.

They need to take him for at least 2 reasons - a) IIRC, it will help reduce what Michigan owes him once he finds a well paying job, and b) would like to guarantee a win against them every year.
September 16th, 2015 at 11:24 PM ^
Hoke could barely get Michigan to .500 with twice the talent Maryland has
September 16th, 2015 at 11:27 PM ^
He would run tremendous practices, that's for sure.
September 17th, 2015 at 10:21 AM ^
Yeah, but he refuses to wear red, so he has that going against him.

Hey, it was a reasonable assumption. They heard he was interested in a school whose name starts with an "M" and is eight letters long.

They mentioned the last 3 Michigan Football coaches. Why not try to get Carr out of retirement?

The Baylor portion is gold. I feel bad for these schools that have no chance of getting better. You in 2005, probably. All it takes is the right guy.

September 16th, 2015 at 5:54 PM ^
My point is, the big 10 continues to hire average to bad guys like kyle flood, randy edsall, tim beckman, and yes, brady hoke.
Meanwhile Chad Morris and Tom Hermann are giving SMU and Houston a much-needed shot in the arm. Duke finally hit a home run with David Cutlife. Stanford identified Jim Harbaugh before anyone else in the Power 5 did. And yes, MSU had the right idea with Dantonio. Those schools will probably promote internally and try and keep a good thing going.
Good coaches can do a heck of a lot with scarce resources. It's identifying that guy that's important.

September 16th, 2015 at 5:55 PM ^
agreed, david cutliffe is a better example

For most schools it's a crapshoot. Dantonio went 18-17 at Cincinnati. And it's way too soon to know if Morris and Herman will make good head coaches.
Michigan is fortunate enough to be the kind of job that proven coaches are interested in. We never were out of options. In 2007 we could have had Les Miles and did land RichRod (who didn't work out here, but had a good résumé). In 2011 we could have had Harbaugh if we wanted him, or Miles. Finally in 2014 we stopped being stupid, went after the best guy and landed him.
September 16th, 2015 at 7:42 PM ^
Rich Rod was a huge name, and far from the least qualified coach we could've gotten in 07
September 17th, 2015 at 11:51 AM ^
..as it turns out, far from the least qualified coach we could've gotten (had) in 2011 {ducks}.
September 16th, 2015 at 8:15 PM ^
Eh. The chance of a small school getting better is non-zero. And I bet it's a lot more tolerable when you are mediocre and you're supposed to be mediocre, as opposed to being a fan of a Michigan or Texas team in a year when they suck donkey balls.
At least when I go see the local MWC team play, there's no traffic to or from the game, the tickets are like $10, parking's free, the food is cheap, and I can stretch my legs into the empty seats in front of me. Going to a 2014 Michigan game, my team is crap, everything is expensive, and I'm sitting in traffic on I-94 for two hours before and after the game.
September 16th, 2015 at 5:28 PM ^
This game was like chili night at the retirement home
Awesome at first but pretty sh*tty 4 hours later.

"I still say the Terps should have topped Michigan's Offer to Jim Harbaugh last year
The difference a Harbaugh would have made to this program in the long run in terms of ticket sales and donors is tremendous. It'd have more than paid for the difference between his contract and Edsall's. Would he have signed? Probably not. But you make sure to offer him a million a year more than Michigan and make him turn it down. You never know, maybe he'd have liked to coach in the same state as his brother. Maybe he'd enjoy the challenge of being the first guy since the 50s to turn Maryland into a football powerhouse- he's a guy who's known to like challenges- and Maryland is at the same time a big challenge and a big ten school with two big NFL markets right near it, so it's a challenge, but not an impossible challenge (They are in a good conference, they've got a lot of football fans in the area- you convert 75% of Ravens fans and 75% of Redskins fans and Byrd would sell out every game)."
- Maryland fan
That's just beautiful stuff right there
September 16th, 2015 at 5:42 PM ^
I say I should be like Tom Brady and marry a supermodel.
The difference in my quality of life and future family would be tremendous. The cost of having her be away from home often to pose for pictures would be clearly outweighed by being super-rich and the envy of every man and having super-beautiful children. Winning a supermodel's heart would be a challenge, but not an impossible challenge (I may be a guy who posts on an internet message board, but it's a good message board). I've got to do it.
September 16th, 2015 at 6:00 PM ^
Make her say no.
Side note: I'm thinking Byrd will be over 50% Michigan fans in a couple weeks. Looking forward to going to that one.

They probably want Spurrier just because they'd no longer be the butt of his jokes. I remember Spurrier, while at Florida, being asked to comment on Tennessee's second place finish in the SEC.
Spurrier said "you can't spell "CITRUS" without "UT". (At the time, Fulmer's Tennessee had national championship aspirations, and the fanbase hated Spurrier for this and similar quotes.)

Regarding Arkansas:
Doc told me no more alcohol
I had to watch the game while drinking O'Douls
So I don't wanna hear any more bitchin
Somebody picked the wrong week to quit drinking for medical reasons. Actually, that sort of game is a medical reason TO drink if you are a Razorbacks fan, I would imagine.

The fact that someone out there thinks Maryland has the guns to compete with Michigan in terms of buying power is beyond laughable. But hey, good for you dreaming big, pal.
