I played basketball competitively for many years and had many coaches. I’ve watched thousands of hours. Yes I’m an M fan yet Juwan Howard may be one of the best coaches I’ve ever witnessed. His molding of men, enthusiasm, integrity, professionalism, humor, and ability to motivate is outstanding.

His teams play with purpose, with heart, and with discipline within the team. It’s just an absolute joy to watch. I’ve never seen such a combination of really good offense and defense. Cherry on top... building a culture that everyone buys into. And at the age of 46, I tell my son to soak this up as it’s the best Michigan bball team I’ve seen in the last 30 years. Thank God for basketball!!!

Considering Harbaugh has overseen Michigan football’s highest ever Academic Performance Ratings, I’m struggling to see where his culture is problematic. It’s amazing how JH is judged purely on wins and transfers and former player sound bites and not on how the team’s more academically successful and improved in average yearly wins over the past 15 years—with 2020 being a pandemic anomaly.

Guys like Milton get their degrees and transfer with years left to prove themselves, and that makes Jim a bad coach. LMAO.

UM has a bunch of great coaches, which don’t always translate to rings.

The hype train is reaching critical mass. Don't get me wrong I love Juwan and his excellent start to his tenure, but in 2 years we're calling him one of the best coaches?

Such a statement can only be made with large sample sizes at the end of a career. There's going to be challenges. There's going to be off years or possibly off court challenges with players in the future. Even Coach K has off years, most notably right now. I think seeing how Coach Howard responds to those and navigates the program are data points for "greatest coach ever" titles.

For now, I'm just happy to have a great man, coach, and leader for this team. I'd argue for our sanity, hold off on discussing him among the greats for now :)

I don’t see anyone calling Juwan Howard the greatest ever, but this team plays the best and most complete basketball I’ve seen in decades. And he’s the frontrunner for the Naismith COTY.

He’s far exceeded even the most optimistic expectations with the opportunities he’s had.

How far has he exceed expectations? No one expected much.

Michigan was ranked #25 in the preseason SI and AP polls and #34 in CBS. Right now it's Baylor, Gonzaga, Michigan and everyone else. Howard's team weathered a nightmare stretch where they went from being honed to a razor's edge, winning by double digits consistently to not practicing for 2 weeks to winning their first 3 games back, two against top 25 teams, one of which is a projected #1 seed.

Name another coach who could guide his team through that debacle while maintaining their focus and intensity.

In all NCAA sports the travel rosters are generally more limited than you would think. Even in football isn’t the travel roster 65? You have 85 scholarships plus walk-ons means 30+ kids aren’t traveling. In baseball most teams have the full roster of 36 (at least that’s what it was when I played) and 25 travel. So theoretically an entire lineup with a DH and a reliever are staying home.

with all the cash in college sports now they could change that but I’d rather see them pay the players first.

The Big Ten travel roster limit in football is 74.

The limit is set by the conference and only applies to conference games. Other conferences can set their own limits if they like. The Big Ten tried to get the NCAA to extend its limits to all schools and for non-conference games and it was shot down.

It could of been his choice, not Michigans.  I think he is from Novi and it's not that far of a drive, maybe he road tripped with family or friends.  Maybe he didn't feel like getting up at 5am at AA for leaving (if that's when they left -idk).  Maybe he knows people in columbus and wanted to spend the weekend if he knew he wasn't dressing for the game.

But yeah, if he had to drive to columbus because Michigan couldn't get him on the bus, that's a bit weird.

I saw that tweet today and also thought (while just relishing in our W today against the Suckeyes), how fortunate we are to have Juwan. Hoping he stays for years to come. A true M man. Go Blue!

How cool of Phil Martelli to tell Juwan to do that. {Eye roll}.

Hilarious that RCMB slaps have convinced themselves it’s all Martelli without understanding, by extension, they are saying Michigan’s assistant coach is better than their head coach.

Cool... how did you do that?  Here are the steps I took:

1. On https://twitter.com/bluebyninety/status/1363582254841274370, I click three dots in the upper right-hand corner of the Tweet.

2. Click "Embed Tweet".

3. Click the "Copy Code" button.

4. In the MGoBlog comment window, click the "Source" button.

5. Paste the copied code.

6.  Click the "Source" button again to get back into the regular editor mode.

7. Click the Save button.

But that method doesn't doesn't show the picture... just the Tweet text and the account.  Grrr.
