I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again Michigan is lucky to have Juwan Howard.

jumped the queue to share the video link of what he's talking about:

Without a doubt!

FIRE WARDE

I played basketball competitively for many years and had many coaches. I’ve watched thousands of hours. Yes I’m an M fan yet Juwan Howard may be one of the best coaches I’ve ever witnessed. His molding of men, enthusiasm, integrity, professionalism, humor, and ability to motivate is outstanding.
His teams play with purpose, with heart, and with discipline within the team. It’s just an absolute joy to watch. I’ve never seen such a combination of really good offense and defense. Cherry on top... building a culture that everyone buys into. And at the age of 46, I tell my son to soak this up as it’s the best Michigan bball team I’ve seen in the last 30 years. Thank God for basketball!!!

We're lucky to have Coach Howard and Coach Beilein back to back. Not many programs get so lucky.
February 21st, 2021 at 11:34 PM ^
Those 2 are a big reason why we are a basketball school.
February 21st, 2021 at 11:46 PM ^
....and in football we had / have Brady Hoke and Jim....never mind, we are a BASKETBALL SCHOOL!!
February 22nd, 2021 at 5:01 AM ^
Can't we enjoy basketball without shitting on football?
February 22nd, 2021 at 6:45 AM ^
Thank you. Geez, enjoy that
February 22nd, 2021 at 8:05 AM ^
If we're actually going to bring this up after this past weekend, at least get it right. Rodriguez followed by Hoke was much more detrimental to the football team than Hoke followed by Jim.
February 22nd, 2021 at 4:03 PM ^
Considering Harbaugh has overseen Michigan football’s highest ever Academic Performance Ratings, I’m struggling to see where his culture is problematic. It’s amazing how JH is judged purely on wins and transfers and former player sound bites and not on how the team’s more academically successful and improved in average yearly wins over the past 15 years—with 2020 being a pandemic anomaly.
Guys like Milton get their degrees and transfer with years left to prove themselves, and that makes Jim a bad coach. LMAO.
UM has a bunch of great coaches, which don’t always translate to rings.
February 22nd, 2021 at 11:06 AM ^
I thought we were a baseball school.
February 22nd, 2021 at 1:11 AM ^
This is spot on. Juwan built on a strong program in a way that is rare. Not an add on. Not a chosen assistant. But something deep in Michigan DNA
February 22nd, 2021 at 10:12 AM ^
Watching Beilein interview Howard was such a great watch. Two great people, who both love the game and Michigan. So much respect between the two. Very lucky to have them both
February 22nd, 2021 at 8:37 AM ^
The hype train is reaching critical mass. Don't get me wrong I love Juwan and his excellent start to his tenure, but in 2 years we're calling him one of the best coaches?
Such a statement can only be made with large sample sizes at the end of a career. There's going to be challenges. There's going to be off years or possibly off court challenges with players in the future. Even Coach K has off years, most notably right now. I think seeing how Coach Howard responds to those and navigates the program are data points for "greatest coach ever" titles.
For now, I'm just happy to have a great man, coach, and leader for this team. I'd argue for our sanity, hold off on discussing him among the greats for now :)
February 22nd, 2021 at 11:04 AM ^
I don’t see anyone calling Juwan Howard the greatest ever, but this team plays the best and most complete basketball I’ve seen in decades. And he’s the frontrunner for the Naismith COTY.
He’s far exceeded even the most optimistic expectations with the opportunities he’s had.
February 22nd, 2021 at 12:26 PM ^
How far has he exceed expectations? No one expected much.
Michigan was ranked #25 in the preseason SI and AP polls and #34 in CBS. Right now it's Baylor, Gonzaga, Michigan and everyone else. Howard's team weathered a nightmare stretch where they went from being honed to a razor's edge, winning by double digits consistently to not practicing for 2 weeks to winning their first 3 games back, two against top 25 teams, one of which is a projected #1 seed.
Name another coach who could guide his team through that debacle while maintaining their focus and intensity.
February 21st, 2021 at 10:09 PM ^
Great story. I wonder why he wasn't on the bench? Walk-ons travel, right?
February 21st, 2021 at 10:17 PM ^
Football travel rosters are limited, I imagine the same is true for basketball
February 21st, 2021 at 11:13 PM ^
In all NCAA sports the travel rosters are generally more limited than you would think. Even in football isn’t the travel roster 65? You have 85 scholarships plus walk-ons means 30+ kids aren’t traveling. In baseball most teams have the full roster of 36 (at least that’s what it was when I played) and 25 travel. So theoretically an entire lineup with a DH and a reliever are staying home.
with all the cash in college sports now they could change that but I’d rather see them pay the players first.
February 22nd, 2021 at 1:08 AM ^
Always bums me out when we can't empty the bench in a blowout because it's on the road. The walk ons work just as hard as the starters and deserve to get some game time
February 22nd, 2021 at 7:11 AM ^
The Big Ten travel roster limit in football is 74.
The limit is set by the conference and only applies to conference games. Other conferences can set their own limits if they like. The Big Ten tried to get the NCAA to extend its limits to all schools and for non-conference games and it was shot down.
February 21st, 2021 at 10:09 PM ^
I too, think this is neat.
February 21st, 2021 at 10:12 PM ^
Do they have restricted travel rosters? Was wondering why he had to drive down himself and sit in the stands.
February 21st, 2021 at 10:23 PM ^
So weird to me that they are so ‘by the book’ that there wasn’t an extra seat in the bus for a team member. I can’t think that cost a lot, if anything?
February 21st, 2021 at 10:32 PM ^
It could of been his choice, not Michigans. I think he is from Novi and it's not that far of a drive, maybe he road tripped with family or friends. Maybe he didn't feel like getting up at 5am at AA for leaving (if that's when they left -idk). Maybe he knows people in columbus and wanted to spend the weekend if he knew he wasn't dressing for the game.
But yeah, if he had to drive to columbus because Michigan couldn't get him on the bus, that's a bit weird.
February 21st, 2021 at 11:15 PM ^
See my post above. Yes the NCAA is that restrictive. Only a few can travel. You can’t put cream cheese on a bagel, you surely cannot let someone not traveling ride on your bus.
February 21st, 2021 at 11:22 PM ^
I think they actually allow cream cheese now. But yeah the NCAA sucks on a lot of this stuff.
February 21st, 2021 at 10:16 PM ^
I saw that tweet today and also thought (while just relishing in our W today against the Suckeyes), how fortunate we are to have Juwan. Hoping he stays for years to come. A true M man. Go Blue!
February 21st, 2021 at 10:22 PM ^
How cool of Phil Martelli to tell Juwan to do that. {Eye roll}.
Hilarious that RCMB slaps have convinced themselves it’s all Martelli without understanding, by extension, they are saying Michigan’s assistant coach is better than their head coach.
February 21st, 2021 at 10:28 PM ^
was hoping someone would post that. saw it when it was part of some tweet trail that was posted earlier. that is all world.

One of these days someone will show us how to embed the picture in a Tweet too...
... I can do it no problemo for a YouTube post but I cannot for a Tweet. :(
February 22nd, 2021 at 7:00 AM ^
I used to be able to do both, but I no longer can do either. I thought it might be a chrome issue, but who knows.

I could be wrong but it doesn't look like you are finishing the oembed. It should look like...

Cool... how did you do that? Here are the steps I took:
1. On https://twitter.com/bluebyninety/status/1363582254841274370, I click three dots in the upper right-hand corner of the Tweet.
2. Click "Embed Tweet".
3. Click the "Copy Code" button.
4. In the MGoBlog comment window, click the "Source" button.
5. Paste the copied code.
6. Click the "Source" button again to get back into the regular editor mode.
7. Click the Save button.
But that method doesn't doesn't show the picture... just the Tweet text and the account. Grrr.

Thanks!
That's a bit different than getting the iframe from twitter itself!
Appreciate it!

Phil Martelli looks pretty spry to me in that "video"
February 21st, 2021 at 10:29 PM ^
RCMB .... ?. They got a poster on their named Johnny2x2 or something that monitors our board 24x7 and posts crap all day. He is the a-typical obsessive ‘I never made it as a Wolverine but secretly wanted to’ Sparty.
February 21st, 2021 at 10:32 PM ^
Johnny is a notorious UM obsessor. It’s hilarious how much space UM takes up in his head.
February 21st, 2021 at 11:14 PM ^
RCMB coaching perspective:
How could Howard even be considered as a coach of the year candidate for the conference or nation when he is not even the coach of the team?! All hail Phil!
February 22nd, 2021 at 12:13 AM ^
They have a poster soccer o8 who said houstan and diabate were just place holders and guaranteed they were going to decommit the next day is when Enoch decommitted from state! Lmao!
February 22nd, 2021 at 1:20 AM ^
I thought his name was Johnny 5x9 this year? At least until their next game.
February 22nd, 2021 at 1:16 AM ^
This will never not be funny to me. I'm gonna start taking it even further. Phil Martelli did a hell of a job raising Jace. What a fine young man he turned out to be
February 21st, 2021 at 10:31 PM ^
Honest question: who is CJ Baird ?
February 21st, 2021 at 10:37 PM ^
Senior on the team, normally only sees time in the last few mins of a game.
February 21st, 2021 at 10:38 PM ^
Thank you.
