Trying to bring ICC soccer back to the Big House
In an email to get Event Team members to sign up for spring commencement and spring football, they mentioned that they're trying to get a late July soccer match. In previous years that we hosted we received the same message and ultimately got the bid. With our record crowds, and how well the events turned out, I would assume that we are probably as close to being on the "for sure" list as you could get. On a personal note I loved working the first two and only wish I could have quenched my thirst with a Bass Ale during the second match...it was hot!

It's also soccer. International Champions Cup -- a "tournament" of summer friendlies that take place each year before the domestic leagues begin.

I think they could host your version of ICC across the street at Holway Field. I would still work that if they needed me.

I guess it's better than bringing ICP to the Big House amirite?

Read this as ICP. Was horrified.

Every time I've seen the acronym ICC with relation to Michigan, it's been in reference to the inter-cooperative council. Google agrees with me:

I have no clue what you're referring to in this case. Please write better or don't write at all.

You may want to actually explain what "ICC" is...

It's definitely the intraclass correlation coefficient.

They didn’t come back last year due to a scheduling conflict.
They’ll be back this year. Stephen Ross owns the ICC and has made a commitment to at least one of the tournament’s sponsors.

I vote we have a Champions open thread for the quarterfinals and moving forward. Where's that guy that used to start the threads last year at this time.

I follow soccer somewhat but probably not enough to start threads.

Contrary to popular opinion, no actual knowledge is required on a subject to create a post on it.

....usually seems to be a negative correlation.

The Big House would make a fine Icecrown Citadel 2.0

I knew it!

The first one was best, the one at Co-Pa last year was meh, and the Chelsea-Real Madrid game in 2016 was middling at best. What stinks about the years the Big House has hosted these games is the fact it's the same year as the major tournaments (World Cup 2014, Real Madrid Man Utd that summer, Euro 2016, Real Madrid Chelsea that summer, World Cup this summer - possible match.) While it's neat to see the Big House set up for the sport and get a little more a soccer vibe while tailgating compared to Michigan Football, it would be good if we could actually get teams at full strength and not just a 15 minute Ronaldo cameo for us to cheer while U-23 players take the field. I know we will never see a full strength Starting 11 in an ICC game but the lineups at the Big House have left much to be desired due to mandatory rest for the stars coming off major tournaments.

That 15 minute Ronaldo cameo was incredible tho

Went to one of the Man U - Real games. Does anyone remember if they rolled out real grass on top of our fake turf? They must of, right? You can't play on that fake shit.
