Today's Schedule of Games
A Big Ten showdown in Happy Valley, and a lot of subplot games with upset potential this week (Please don’t be us. Please don’t be us. Please don’t be us. Kthx).
Here are some highlights:
At Noon on FOX: #2 Ohio State at #13 Penn State. It’s dumb to do the “We beat team [fill in the blank] by more/less than Ohio State did” as a predictor of how we will do against them. Different teams play each other differently. But I’m going to do it anyway as I watch this game. It would be awesome to watch Ohio State struggle with Penn State in areas where Michigan had no problems, and see that maybe Ohio State does not really have it all figured out running the ball and defending the run like they claim. Penn State won’t win, but here is hoping that they can give OSU something to think about and fret over as November 26th looms ever closer.
Also at Noon on ABC: Notre Dame at #16 Syracuse. Any time Notre Dame loses a game, it is good for us. We constantly compete with them for top recruits. Any Notre Dame win is a nauseating media-driven Return To Glory ™, especially with a new coaching regime. Spare me please. So I’ll be rooting hard for a Syracuse win and a Notre Dame loss. Plus Dino Babers seems like a cool guy, and Syracuse deserves a break because they got chumped hard last week by the refs “Ohio State treatment” of Clemson. But . . . the world is not a fair place. This will be an ugly Notre Dame win.
In the Afternoon at 3:30 PM on CBS: Florida at #1 Georgia. The "World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party". This has typically been a big game nationally, but it’s under the radar this year. Courtesy of Florida. They looked like they had a pulse early in the year, but it was a false dawn. I’ll take a peek at this game for the pageantry of it, but it won’t be much of an actual football game. Georgia wins big.
Also at 3:30 PM on FOX: #9 Oklahoma State at #22 Kansas State. This is a game to stay in the hunt for the Big 12 title. This game hinges on whether Adrian Martinez can play, and play 100%. He’s the difference maker (suck it, Scott Frost). If he can go effectively it will be a KSU win. If not, THE OSU will win it. I’ll be optimistic here and go with KSU to win.
Also at 3:30 PM on ABC: #17 Illinois at Nebraska. Nebraska is a quirky team that has some talent (suck it, Scott Frost). They have not put all the pieces together yet, but they are capable of it for a game. I think this will be that game. They will play inspired and focused and take down Big Ten West leader Illinois in an upset. The winner of the Big Ten West could easily have four losses when it is all over. Even Northwestern is not actually out of it. Stupid. Embarrassing. Fun.
In the Evening at 7:00 PM on ESPN: #19 Kentucky at #3 Tennessee. Kentucky specializes in these kinds of games where they look like a real ranked team in the middle of the season that looks like they could pull off a big SEC upset. But they seldom do, and by season’s end their attention is turning to basketball. They won’t do it today either, and Tennessee stays on a roll.
At 7:30 PM on ABC: Michigan State at #4 Michigan. If I’m Sparty, I am arm-punting Rocky Lombardi-style on every play and hoping for astonishing catches by Reed (or astonishing pass interference calls against Michigan). On defense I am putting 10 in the box and run blitzing like crazy to take away Harbaugh’s “favorite way to win”. There is a 95% chance they will lose in humiliating fashion doing that, but there is a non-zero chance they can pull off a win. It’s happened before. I hope that Harbaugh is not too stubborn to take what they leave on the table and club them to death with it. Our favorite way to win should be to not let them hang around and think they have a chance.
Also at 7:30 PM on SECN: #15 Ole Miss at Texas A&M. Nobody is talking about this game, but if I'm Ole Miss I am nervous as hell. Texas A&M is erratic to say the least. They lost to App State . . . but then they nearly beat Alabama. You don’t know what team you are going to get week-to-week and that’s why Ole Miss should be nervous. I’m predicting the upset here: Texas A&M in a convincing win.
Finally, your Pac-12 After Dark Special - meaningless crazy football just for the fun of it:
At 10:30 PM on ESPN: Stanford at #12 UCLA. This week is a half-off Pac-12 After Dark Special. It’s only meaningless to Stanford. UCLA is trying to stay in the Pac 12 title hunt, and will play like it. Only 200 people will be there to witness it, but UCLA will win and stay alive in the Pac 12.

October 29th, 2022 at 12:57 PM ^
OSU still soft.
Both lines, soft.
Tackling, suspect.
Great receivers and generating turnovers rn.
This is their identity.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:57 PM ^
Nice tackling, assholes
October 29th, 2022 at 12:57 PM ^
Good Lord, nobody gets absolutely dominated yet stays within 3 points like Penn State.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:00 PM ^
Lol…Franklin should put that on his business card
October 29th, 2022 at 12:57 PM ^
That was comical. OSU CBs bounced off the WR.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:59 PM ^
Off a 5'8 180 pound receiver
October 29th, 2022 at 12:58 PM ^
PSU finally makes a big play. Poor tackling by OSU.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:58 PM ^
The #3 pass defense in the country. I think not. Ohio State played that like Abbott and Costello.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:00 PM ^
That defense is Halloween scary. Didn't you know?
October 29th, 2022 at 1:00 PM ^
It's 1:00 EST and Ohio State is still soft.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:01 PM ^
They sure are talking a lot about Michigan.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:06 PM ^
Well, the best team in the Big Ten is worth talking about.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:01 PM ^
This is not Urban Meyer's OSU.
More explosive on offense and crazy talent at WR...yes.
Tough, physical, lines...nope.
These boys are soft.
Ryan Day has built the greatest version of Texas Tech we've ever seen.
Ready for the Harbaugh hammer to roll into Columbus on a cold, windy day the last week of November and smash them in the mouth.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:01 PM ^
Last year's winning game plan against the Buckeyes looks to be this year's game plan to beat the Buckeyes. They have a potent passing offense, but they're decidedly vulnerable. Run all over them, dominate the clock, control TOP, limit their chances, win the game.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:05 PM ^
If we can run on them and stay on schedule on 1st downs, they are fucked.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:03 PM ^
Soft. Squishy like a jelly. What happened to WR blocking for your RB.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:05 PM ^
LOL. What happened to WR block on that throw. Appreciate UM WRs. It is not just sexy catches.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:08 PM ^
WRs talented but soft and reluctant to man up.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:04 PM ^
Gotta give credit to PSU for defending screens. Outstanding.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:04 PM ^
How can there be a delay of game on a punt?
October 29th, 2022 at 1:04 PM ^
World famous delay of game, then a world famous punt by world famous Ohio State!
October 29th, 2022 at 1:05 PM ^
If the transitive property applies, I like our chances against OSU. They look beatable.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:05 PM ^
Washington needs to cut and go.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:05 PM ^
That pedophilic ferret looking Ryan Day can scream to the hills about OSU's new tough identity.
I see a soft, soft team.
Harbaugh is the hammer.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:05 PM ^
PSU #3 may be able to field punts, he sure is hesitant once he has the ball in his hands.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:07 PM ^
Shows you how good our ST is. He had all day there but cannot make up his mind
October 29th, 2022 at 1:08 PM ^
I'm just here to root for whoever's playing Notre Dame, Ohio State and MSU. Go teams!
October 29th, 2022 at 1:08 PM ^
So not that I would want UM to back into a conference title but is it true that if PSU pulls this off a hypothetical three way tie would come down to record of west division opponents played? I just looked at the tiebreaker rules and it certainly seems like that is the case unless I am missing something. Seems like that would really put UM in the driver's seat since PSU and Ohio State don't play Illinois.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:11 PM ^
There is a scenario where we could be Big Ten East champions before we even step foot in Columbus.
Strange world.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:13 PM ^
Yeah honestly as long as Illinois won every game besides the UM game I think that alone would all but lock up UM's West opponents having the best cumulative record. Again hopefully the boys make that a moot point but would be nice to be going in there already as the conference champs.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:09 PM ^
Don't think he caught that
October 29th, 2022 at 1:09 PM ^
Not close, Klatt, it's called a catch.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:10 PM ^
Eh, that is close. Wouldn't be surprised to see that overturned.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:11 PM ^
It is definitely close. Should be a call stands
October 29th, 2022 at 2:09 PM ^
Ball never touched the ground.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:10 PM ^
Catch. All day.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:10 PM ^
Not a catch by Washington, as much as I want it to be.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:13 PM ^
I stand corrected.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:10 PM ^
I think play stands as a catch
October 29th, 2022 at 1:13 PM ^
It was called complete. Not enough to overturn it. If it was called incomplete, could not overturn that either.
Plays stands as called.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:12 PM ^
He had posession when he hit the ground. The ground can make the ball move around, as long as the receiver doesnt "lose possession".
Not sure how they overturn that.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:12 PM ^
Moreover, the ball didn't even touch the ground.
October 29th, 2022 at 2:10 PM ^
Never touched the ground.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:13 PM ^
Was Clifford down field when he let that pass go?
October 29th, 2022 at 1:14 PM ^
I think he had at least his foot behind the line.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:16 PM ^
But is it the ball or his feet? Serious question, I don't know. It sure looked like his feet were passed the line, and I'm surprised they didn't review it.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:14 PM ^
PSU cooking now
October 29th, 2022 at 1:14 PM ^
Singleton's vision is suspect.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:14 PM ^
TOUCHDOWN KITTY KATS.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:14 PM ^
TD Penn State! Fuck yeah!
