Hopefully they pick Harbaugh but it falls apart in the contract negotiation stage.

He'll want a clause that says he can't be fired without the opportunity for a trial by combat or something.

And meanwhile internet rumors are that Andy Reid might call it a career after these playoffs.  Philly hasnt acted either way. Either gig would be better than LAC (NTLAC). So if you want to breathe easier… well, don’t.

You’d think if LA or ATL really prioritized Jim, they’d have him by now. But who knows. He really seems like he’s letting go. Attending a very public anti-abortion rally isn’t something a M coach normally would do. Feels like an indicator.

He's been very public about his political and religious views. He doesn't fit neatly into any single category; he's got some strong views that are typically associated with the left (e.g., his vocal support for Colin Kaepernick) and some equally strong views that are typically associated with the right (e.g., his staunch opposition to abortion). Sort of like, oh I don't know, an actual regular citizen with multi-faceted beliefs as opposed to a one-dimensional media archetype of a pro-lifer or a supporter of police reform?

Harbaugh said yesterday its “ time to pass the torch “ something is brewing and hes about to grab the headlines and showout to the football world. Whichever team gets him they’re national interest rockets- tickets, tv ratings, fan interest, merchandise- Harbaugh is larger than life

If you actually listened to the "pass the torch" comment, it was more indicative of him returning rather than leaving.  He talked about preparing for the next season as if he we were returning to Michigan to see the torch being passed from one team of players to the next.  Personally, I would avoid reading into it at all, as it was pretty vague, and he was just trying to say something when put on the spot about his job status.

Serious question: I am not a fan of the NFL, haven't watched any games in well over a decade for various reasons I won't get into here...

Assuming Harbaugh is set on going to the NFL (if he finds the right situation) are the Chargers really the best option for him? If not, of the current openings who might be?

I keep hearing things like their ownership is cheap, lack of cap space, etc. Then I've also heard the Commanders (dumb name btw) have a shit ton of cap space. If I'm going back to the NFL to win a Super Bowl I think I'd rather have a team with a lot of cap space vs. one with none (or over it).

For me, it seems like the Chargers wouldn't be all that great for Jim, so why are 'we' so worried about them? Again, caveat of I am not a fan of the NFL so I really have no clue what teams are 'close'.

Are the Chargers really just a 'good coach' away? Or is it simply the California connection for Jim and his wife (who I keep hearing allegedly wants to go back but never any reasoning behind it)?j

i lived out west for years. the spanos ownership team, relative to the high-functioning maniac that is our coach, would explode into a thousand pieces dealing with him.   and that's before they suddenly break a pattern of decades and shell out enough $ to make him one of the highest paid coaches in the league and and and give him tremendous player control.

ain't happenin'.

I think Harbaugh will exit this process. How will he view the situation with 4-6 other candidates when he has one of the all-time highest win percentages?  He needs to feel wanted in Ann Arbor, but willing to go another round with 1/2 dozen candidates?

Falcons seem like the bigger threat.

As a veteran reader of tea leaves, seems like the most plausible explanations are either that there is no offer from the Chargers yet or there is one but it was a low-ball. Both would explain the Chargers leaking the 4-6 candidates and bringing Vrabel in and Jim doing interview No. 2 with the Falcons.

Either way both sides are still exploring options, which I guess is good for Michigan?
