State Game Kickoff Time?
With the last three games getting worse and worse for State, is it possible this is a noon or BTN game?
FWIW, ESPN's schedule currently has OSU-NW in the 3:30 window and Wisconsin-Nebraska in the late window. That week is also Clemson-FSU, which also has no time set yet.

It WAS a guaranteed 3:30, but with MSU's sucking (tee hee hee), it might be noon.

Not being argumentative, just very curious because I'm trekking to the gulag of Spartan Stadium for the game from out-of-state. The TBD had been driving us batshit as we made flight plans - ultimately we just decided to stay both Friday and Saturday nights.
With that dynamic, I could not find anything to indicate game time other than TBD. Still curious, to help us make pre- and post-game plans.

Because it's been 3:30 for some years now. If MSU were undefeated or had just one loss, I feel as if GameDay would have went there instead and we'd have a 3:30 kick.
EDIT: I said "guaranteed" based on no facts. It was really just my opinion it WAS going to be 3:30, but likely no longer. That said, it still could be.

I had originally told my spouse I was 90% sure it would be 3:30 since it should transcend "regional rivalry" after MSU beat Notre Dame (especially after the ending of last year's Michigan - MSU game, which sparked a lot of unwelcome interest). Then I noticed that Notre Dame is hot trash, and decided to play it safe.
A few MSU games later, I am very glad we decided to fly in Friday night. Noon is seeming more and more likely to me, especially with the scheduling that the OP noted on the other games that day.
In any event, I'd like to stay in Detroit one night to give my son a feel for the city (which I love), so game time is still very relevant in that analysis. Noon kickoff = Friday night in E. Lansing, Saturday night in Detroit. 3:30 kickoff = the opposite.

msu has been dominant over michigan recently
if michigan is going to dominate this year the interest should be as high or higher
msu down year = little effect on game time

They don't set the game times based on how fans of the two schools feel. They set it based on whether the game appeals to neutral observers, who ultimately constitute the majority. Otherwise, Texas-Oklahoma wouldn't have been exiled to FS1 last week.

they were both ranked and good it would have been a 3:30 deal, possibly with Game Day is E.L. because it would have been an encore to the crazy game last year. Now, like I said below, this is looking more like a noon ESPN 2 kind of deal. I would say, barring BTN getting the game, this is virutally a certain noon kick.

one is ranked...the other is rank....

Burning synthetics will endanger everyone who is not adequately protected, and it will be one big bonfire in EL.
October 10th, 2016 at 4:46 PM ^
It's been at noon before. It wouldn't be that shocking if it were at that time again. It will come down to whatever else is going on that day.
October 10th, 2016 at 12:19 PM ^
If it is placed on a 6-day hold that day, then at the latest, we'll know no later than noon on Sunday, Oct 23.
October 10th, 2016 at 12:22 PM ^
will either be a noon ABC/ESPN kick off or a 3:30 BIG Network kick. FSU v. Clemson is that day, NW v. OSU is actually at 5:30 oddly enough on ABC/ESPN, and Wisky v. Nebraska at 7:00.
I think it is possible that the FSU v. Clemson game is a night game and that could open up 3:30 for M v. MSU, but it is far more likely that we are going to be a noon ABC or ESPN 2 kick. Unless State gets right fast, this could be a Pam Ward special. I am actually kind of hoping BTN gets the game because I really want it to be a 3:30 game.

When have Michigan fans ever chanted "go maize, go blue"? Let's not pull a sparty and try to unoriginally turn one of their phrases on its head, as they so cleverly now do with the "little sister" cry.

A simple go blue across the stadium should suffice

Our cheerleaders have been trying to push that cheer on us for a few years now but it hasn't caught on. I agree that it sounds too much like the MSU cheer.
Besides, "Can't read! Can't write!" is funnier.

last week, I genuinely don't know if they will make a bowl game (they may be one of the 5-7 bowl "exemptions" or whatever). NW is not going to be easy and Maryland/PSU on the road are not cake walks.
October 10th, 2016 at 1:38 PM ^
MSU will prevail over Rutgers and Maryland.
Illinois and NW are not a sure thing.
PSU, 50-50.
October 10th, 2016 at 3:39 PM ^
Illinois is pretty bad - they lost to freaking Purdue fergodsakes...

You are allowed to count one FCS victory towards bowl eligibility.

HAHA
I think we should refer to Rutgers as "LOL Rutgers" going forward.
October 11th, 2016 at 10:12 AM ^
I feel like they could beat PSU, but they also could lose to Maryland.
October 10th, 2016 at 1:17 PM ^
I do think they get to at least 6-6. They've got very winnable games against Maryland, Northwestern, Illinois and Rutgers. But right now, I'd say they lose to us, OSU and PSU.
Maaaaaybe they beat PSU, but Franklin may be coaching for his job at that point, and it's at PSU, so I give them the nod for now.
October 10th, 2016 at 1:24 PM ^
has just got to the point where I am having trouble determining whether they suck in a "finding themselves" kind of way or if they suck in an "OMG they seriously suck" kind of way. If "OMG they seriously suck" then NW is a loss, Michigan is a loss, Ohio State is a loss, Penn State is a loss, and Maryland may very well be a loss.
I still don't really think that is the case, but if I am an MSU fan, that BYU second half is where I really start to go HUH about this whole thing. They looked really, really bad.

right there with you, man. It was just this Saturday against BYU where I started to think that maybe my continued angst about that game is misplaced. They looked like a lifeless, hapless football team right now.

they had a concrete time frame for Reschke and Bullough, I would say it would be more likely that they did. But their linebackers are the core of that defense and it looks like Reschke could be out for the season. They appear leaderless and rudderless.

It's harder to tell with a rivalry game, especially so given how things have gone in this rivalry recently.
On the one hand, we appear to be a significantly better team this season than last, and they appear to be significantly worse. And we know what the margin was last year.
On the other hand, they still have some players, and they always turn it up for Michigan in a big way. Their best effort, their best coaching (you know Dantonio has some special trick plays up his sleeve), all of it. And it becomes a one-game season for them. And for how bad they've looked, we've learned to be leery of "apparent" advantages in this game against Dantonio.
And it's on the road.
So there's reason to be cautious. If they can find a way to stymie our offense, they stay close, they pull a trick play for a TD and/or get a crucial turnover... there's a chance. It's something to be concerned about.
Still, if they were wearing Illinois uniforms, would we be worried about the game based on what they've looked like this year? No.
YMMV.

It's annoying when the noon games bleed into the 3:30 games.
October 10th, 2016 at 12:29 PM ^
I really wish TV would start allocating 4 hr time slots for games.
October 10th, 2016 at 12:35 PM ^
If we're wishing for things...I really wish there were less TV timeouts and regulations games would finish in 3 hours instead of routinely being 3.5 hours.
October 10th, 2016 at 12:45 PM ^
They always seem to end on time. ESPN is usually good but ABC, tooooo many commercials.
October 10th, 2016 at 3:50 PM ^
My favorite thing in the world is the classic Score, Commercials, Kickoff, Commercials combo. I get 10 minutes of commercials with about 30 seconds of gametime in between. Wonderful
October 10th, 2016 at 6:48 PM ^
That reminds me of a pet peeve. When I DVR a game, they list it for only 3 hours on the schedule. What football game is ever over within 3 hours? If I don't remember to add extra time, I'll miss the last 10 minutes of the game.
October 10th, 2016 at 12:35 PM ^
And fill the gaps with Finebaum and Joey Galloway? Fuck that shit.
October 10th, 2016 at 5:10 PM ^
There don't need to be gaps at all. Play football during that time. That way the game can actually fit into its allotted timeslot.
October 11th, 2016 at 10:44 AM ^
They won't play football during that entire time. Networks will kick coverage back to studio hosts for highlights and commentary. This has been the MO in televised sports coverage for the past 30+ years.
But go ahead and neg me and upvote yourself again.
October 10th, 2016 at 12:41 PM ^
switch coverage if the game is not a regional game (B1G) or when the game has been decided.
October 10th, 2016 at 2:32 PM ^
The flip side of that is that if they cut away from a Michigan game for something else, I'd be unbelievably pissed, even if it was cutting away from a blowout ala Rutgers.
The real solution is to keep games within their timeslots; not only are commercials getting more frequent, but they feel like they're getting longer, too (this seemed especially the case during the Wisconsin game). Given that plenty of night games start at 8, they could also look at moving the 3:30 slot to 4, which gives a nice 12/4/8 split.
October 10th, 2016 at 4:36 PM ^
Under no circumstance shall any game take priority over the Michigan game. Regardless of start time or conflict with any other game, the Michigan game will be broadcast on time and in its entirety. Call me biased but that's the way it should be.
October 10th, 2016 at 1:42 PM ^
Less advertisement would be better. The length of number of ad slots is getting out of control as ESPN et al try to stem the financial bleeding.
October 11th, 2016 at 7:53 AM ^
State would like the game to go off but I bet they wish it were the last game of the season. Give them time to get there team ready for UM. I believe they need to try to cancel the game and go on with the rest of the schedule because one of a dozen reasons he has to stay off the brakes Jim has Sparty neighbors putting gigantic signs on their lawns with less than flattering words welcoming him to the neighborhood. So like Rutgers who now understand you don't kick over a log with a hive of yellow jackrts in it unless you are a grizzly bear.. Or a Wolverine. This year they remind me more of a Panda than a grizzly so this one should get ugly.
