Stapleton Issues Statement Ripping JUB
October 26th, 2023 at 4:02 PM ^
100% donating to the JUB legal defense fund although I've arguably been doing that already by purchasing everything he's written since Blue Ice.
October 26th, 2023 at 5:17 PM ^
Yep. At worst this creates a ton of content for JUB to write about once he gets all the paper work. Even if he is right, JUB can air all the dirty laundry after this. Lawsuit won't happen.
October 26th, 2023 at 3:41 PM ^
The other unfortunate part for Bitch ass Jim: A libel lawsuit means discovery!
Bring it on!

October 26th, 2023 at 3:45 PM ^
They're about to find out.
October 26th, 2023 at 3:45 PM ^
The circumstantial evidence is overwhelming. OSU message boards and bloggers had this story a month ago. OSU boards also noted that Ryan Day hired a private investigator to look into Michigan sign-stealing.
October 26th, 2023 at 3:49 PM ^
Things are definitely a bit askew when a rival program's internet mods somehow know more about this investigation than our own guys do.
October 26th, 2023 at 5:16 PM ^
People keep saying this, can someone provide links please?
October 26th, 2023 at 3:51 PM ^
What if it's someone OSU can successfully classify as a rogue booster? (Admittedly, that seems like a reach.)
October 26th, 2023 at 3:58 PM ^
So you’re saying that he allegedly had an incident with 5 hookers?
October 26th, 2023 at 4:55 PM ^
I stand with JUB as the only high profile ethical print journalist I can name.
Well, Isaiah and Angelique are ethical as well.
Counting Sam and Ira as non-print, if they are journalists.
:)
JUB is not guessing.

Honestly, though, the complete silence of the Michigan athletic department is becoming a large source of the problem at this point. I understand that they are not supposed to comment publicly on the substance of the allegations, but the complete vacuum in place of where leadership should be is becoming more of a problem than the allegations.
The Michigan athletic department has to say something at this point to defend itself against the portion of all of these reports that remain unsubstantiated or you are going to see a lot more of this infighting come to light within the ranks.
October 26th, 2023 at 3:56 PM ^
Within the ranks? Stapleton's persona non grata as far as I can tell.
October 26th, 2023 at 4:02 PM ^
Ok, "within the ranks" was the wrong phrase.
But at some point if there is not a unified front, people within an organization are going to start to get spooked. John U Bacon is talking because nobody else is. There is nothing stopping Warde Manuel from giving an interview right now saying "we are confident that the truth will bear out that we have conducted ourselves properly, or remedial action will be taken" and then move on to compliment the team for its fantastic season.
Not commenting on an investigation does not mean "not saying anything." Particularly in the face of an orchestrated PR campaign. It is unfortunate that this is playing out during a bye week but that is the reality. Santa Ono. Warde Manuel. Somebody has to say SOMETHING.
October 26th, 2023 at 4:09 PM ^
I'm not bothered by it at all; I honestly don't think the stuff that's public even deserves a statement. Everything I would hope they're doing right now would be going on behind the scenes.
Except I do think it would be good to announce Harbaugh's extension.
October 26th, 2023 at 6:55 PM ^
A statement such as that is boilerplate meaningless. They might as well stay silent like they are supposed to.
JUB and others can comment if they wish. While they have connections to the program, they're not program employees.
October 26th, 2023 at 4:05 PM ^
Well, you know the old adage: don’t let a 12-day story become a 13-day story.
October 26th, 2023 at 4:35 PM ^
don’t let a 12-day story become a 13-day story.
More like don't let a 12 story day become a 13 story day right now...
October 26th, 2023 at 5:01 PM ^
I disagree 330,
Sometimes leaders stay quiet and aware and let others hang themselves. Especially if all of the facts aren't in.
October 26th, 2023 at 6:17 PM ^
That would presume they are men, in the first place.
October 27th, 2023 at 2:59 AM ^
Some men
October 26th, 2023 at 3:18 PM ^
I think it is about time to get the monkey rodeo GIF out.
October 26th, 2023 at 3:19 PM ^
Ask and you shall receive
October 26th, 2023 at 3:18 PM ^
I don't know alot about this situation but what I can tell you is that I am definitely on the side of JUB
October 26th, 2023 at 3:18 PM ^
Good lord.
October 26th, 2023 at 3:18 PM ^
Is there a link to this statement anywhere? I've seen it quoted on 247 and summarized here, but there's no link to the actual text
Also: My "I am not the leaker, nor am I plotting against Jim Harbaugh" statement is raising a lot of questions already answered by my statement
October 26th, 2023 at 3:52 PM ^
Here it is. Not a single denial in here.
October 26th, 2023 at 3:55 PM ^
I love "writer" in quotes.
This guy's an asshat.
October 26th, 2023 at 3:58 PM ^
Yeah. I mean I get being mad at the guy, but Bacon is a categorically successful published author. He's a writer full stop, scare quotes won't change that.
October 26th, 2023 at 3:56 PM ^
Writer in double quotes. Why? He is mad
October 26th, 2023 at 4:21 PM ^
and another thing: im not mad. please dont put in the newspaper that i got mad
October 26th, 2023 at 4:07 PM ^
Every word of that statement screams "I'm a self-important asshole!"
October 26th, 2023 at 4:07 PM ^
That first paragraph is why copy editors were invented.
October 26th, 2023 at 4:18 PM ^
Thanks. It's so funny that he's not even denying what JUB said. Not exactly strong grounds for a lawsuit. And sure as hell not doing much to dispel suspicions!
October 26th, 2023 at 4:54 PM ^
lol he didn’t even categorically deny it!
October 26th, 2023 at 4:28 PM ^
So his statement basically boils down to him touting his self-importance and calling JUB a jerk.
October 26th, 2023 at 4:41 PM ^
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this written statement a confirmation of him now getting in an "argument"? The very thing he claims his "late, great father" told him not to do.
October 26th, 2023 at 5:01 PM ^
Were I that lawyer, I would say: "You dumbshit!! Why would you make a whiny, non-specific, cry baby list of statements that would be immature from a kindergartner and compound it by saying "soon" he would hear from my lawyer?"
October 26th, 2023 at 6:50 PM ^
lol this guy
Dear Mr. Crawford,
Jim Stapleton recently provided me with your email address to confirm that appointed members of the NCAA Committee on Infractions (CoI) are permitted to release statements to the press threatening legal action against journalists reporting on ongoing NCAA investigations. Mr. Stapleton also represented that the NCAA's recusal guidelines somehow relate clearly to this case, but I am not sure whether he means that they are supposed to require him to recuse himself or not. Can you confirm whether releasing press statements threatening legal action against journalists reporting on an investigation is grounds for recusal, should the investigation eventually come under the purview of the CoI?
Thank you for your time and attention,
Jon06
...should I do it?
October 26th, 2023 at 3:20 PM ^
He didn't happen to mention a rando message board user named evenyoubrutus did he?
October 26th, 2023 at 3:21 PM ^
He said brutusevenyou ;)
October 26th, 2023 at 3:55 PM ^
To quote him exactly, his last words on the radio were "Et tu, Brute?"
October 26th, 2023 at 3:41 PM ^
Edit: reading is hard. Zach Shaw's twitter feed has the statement.

proud to know you, EYB. years from now many of us will be able to say, 'we knew EYB way back when....'
October 26th, 2023 at 3:51 PM ^
LOL. If you are a millionaire, hide your money right now. If you want to send it to me I will keep it safe. Just kidding EYB. He is just throwing a tantrum. Let us see if he follows through.
October 26th, 2023 at 3:20 PM ^
Stapleton may want to walk this back. There’s this thing called discovery…
October 26th, 2023 at 3:32 PM ^
Seriously. Stapleton is a public figure, and in the United States, the threshold to defame someone is very, very high.
Is Stapleton willing to get examined (e.g, his phone records; his emails) to prove he didn't leak anything about Michigan to the press? Even about Burgermania?
My guess is Stapleton is *not* the source of the majority or even the vast majority of the leaks, but even just one would mean JUB is completely OK (legally).
And even then, JUB will probably win -- it's not enough for JUB to be wrong, it has be seriously harmful to Stapleton. Has Stapleton lost his job because of this? Any significant % of business? How about having to move from his home b/c irate Michigan fans are threatening him? As far as I know, nope.
